https://www.politico.com/news/2026/10/03/ted-cruz-blasts-jd-vance-as-insecure-says-hes-focused-on-helping-gop-win-midterms-01106033

Sen. Ted Cruz fired back at JD Vance for suggesting he’s already focused on a 2028 presidential bid, calling the vice president “insecure” while insisting he’s focused on the 2026 midterms.

“In my experience, people engage in political bomb-throwing when they’re feeling insecure,” Cruz said in a phone interview Saturday. “So he’s welcome to make whatever comments he likes. I’m going to keep focusing on the midterms and helping us win on Election Day in the next 30 days.”

Cruz’s comments came in response to an NBC News interview Thursday with Vance in which the vice president suggested Cruz was prematurely eyeing a White House run.

“It is really obvious to me that, at this very moment, Ted Cruz is running for president,” Vance said. “At this moment, I’m not. I’m trying to help elect Republicans. That’s what I’m going to keep on doing.”

Vance is widely viewed as the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, but Cruz has said he doesn’t believe Vance is the sure-fire nominee and suggested he might throw his own hat in the ring. “I’ll certainly be part of the discussion,” he told MS NOW in August.

On Saturday, Cruz told POLITICO he is dedicated to helping Republicans maintain control of both chambers of Congress. He pointed to his travel this cycle to campaign with candidates in Georgia, Iowa, Nebraska, South Carolina as well as in his home state of Texas as proof. He also said he has trips planned this month to campaign with Republicans in Alaska, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

“Over the last 10 years, there’s no Republican in the country who has campaigned for more Senate candidates, more House candidates, more gubernatorial candidates than I have, and this year will be no exception,” he said.

Cruz rattled off a list of a dozen GOP candidates he’s helped bolster in past years, including former Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, U.S. House candidate Karoline Leavitt — and the vice president.

“Indeed, ironically, I spent a full day on the road with JD Vance, campaigning with him when he was running for Senate in Ohio [in 2022],” Cruz said. “I was very glad he won that race. I was very glad to help him.”

A spokesperson for Vance did not immediately respond to Cruz’s latest comments.

Vance campaigned in Texas and Florida this week and will hold a rally in Alaska on Monday.

I think this is more a game of hot potato, with no one in the Republican party wanting to be the nominee in 2028 because it's an almost guaranteed loss
So they're getting ahead of it and pointing to each other as the presumptive nominee
>>
BITE EACH OTHER'S DICKS OFF
>>
>>1541215
Yeah I think Cruz will end up becoming the placeholder in '28 so that Vance can run on simply being anti-Dem by 2032 hoping everyone forgot his record with Trump by then.
>>
>>1541223
Ew, Cruz? Pass.
If They're running Cruz, hopefully Democrats will be a slightly sane party sometime soon (they won't).
>>
>>1541215
>Guaranteed loss

President Trump and the MAGA movement have a knack for overcoming incredible odds. Daily reminder the MSM claimed Killary Cunton had a 99% chance of winning the election. Anyways, liggerals are generally browns, zoomers and millennials. Browns and kids don't vote. Successful, white adults with property and actual stakes in the country do, and we always vote Republican
>>
>>1541241
President Trump has served 2 terms, his ability to convince morons to vote for him will be as irrelevant as his wedding vows soon.
>>1541232
>slightly sane party
So you're a 'both sides bad' type. So do you think if she'd won the war with Iran would have happened? Do you think she would have killed USAID, killing hundreds of thousands and destabilizing countries, creating refugees that ultimately become a problem for us? Do you think she would have been so nakedly, openly corrupt she would enrich herself and her family by multiple billions, something that hurt all of us indirectly, and completely crushed some people's retirements and livelihoods?
Open your eyes you fucking retard, you can't both sides this. Dems are obnoxious, they got way too into identity politics, and that is really annoying. It isn't bat-shit insane media-threatening, stock-market gaming, citizen deporting authoritarianism. The current admin is fatally corrupt.

I mean for fucks sake, change the values of the party from within. If you don't like all the racist bullshit, tell your democratic representatives, and vote for ones that don't lean into that as much; or nut up and run for office.

>The polls in 2016 were right. They didn't count on James Comey not understanding how the iCloud works 4 days before the election.

Trump won't be on the ballot in 2028
There's no doubt he'll try to make 2028 all about himself, to the detriment of the Republican nominee, but he won't actually be on the ballot
>>
>>1541276
The GOP is the party of Trump. If he’s still alive, they’ll do everything in their power to accommodate him
>>
>>1541245
Right Trump isn't on the ballot in the midterms.
What are Congressional Democrats approval rating?
>>
>>1541284
It was the party of George Bush, 9/11 and War in the Middle East during the 2000s
McCain and Romney portrayed a failed vision of the republican party leading to Republicans being the party of Trump for the last 10 years. Nobody knows if Trump is another Reagan with Vance as his HW Bush, or if he's George Bush in 2006-2008
>>
>>1541285
Right now the Democrat approval rating is a bit better than the Republican approval rating and notably better than Trump's approval rating

Why do you ask?

https://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/archive/mood_of_america_archive/generic_congressional_ballot/democrats_lead_down_to_5_points_in_midterm_forecast
The Democratic Party’s lead over Republicans has narrowed in the battle to control the House of Representatives.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that if the elections for Congress were held today, 48% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Democratic candidate, while 43% would vote for the Republican. Four percent (4%) say they would vote for some other candidate, while six percent (6%) are not sure
The net advantage for Democrats has decreased since last week, when they led by eight points, 49% to 41%. The position for Republicans is now a net eight points worse than before the November 2024 election, when they led by three points (48% to 45%) and won just a razor-thin House majority
>>
>>1541291
>Rasmussen
I'm old enough to remember when they were the only pollsters to accurately call President Romney's victory in 2012
>>
>>1541291
>>1541292
Of course you both know Rassmussen was discredited years ago for oversampling republicans.
>>
>>1541293
All polls are garbage. Here's why:
https://goodauthority.org/news/pollsters-are-weighting-surveys-differently-in-2024/
Not that you care, but someone might want to know why every single poll has been wrong.
>>
>>1541241
Just like Kamala, JD won’t be able to get the stank of the previous administration off of him and it’s way worse. Biden averaged 42% approval when he left office. Trump’s approval keeps dropping like a stone and sits at 32%.
>>
>>1541154
its funny cause theyre just both so unlikeable.
>>
>>1541245
You sound insane.
>>
>>1541245
The world isn't entitled to american tax dollars collected at gunpoint.
It's a good thing that USAID is defunded, and that private charities have stepped up to carry the load. That's what private charity is designed for. While the government collects every dollar at the point of a gun so it wouldn't make sense
>>
>>1541579
When China is world hegemony, you’re gonna be looking back at shit like this and wondering what you could have done differently
>>
>>1541578
You support a criminally insane pedophile, forgive me if I wipe my ass with your psyche evaluation.
>>1541579
Private charities have not stepped up to carry the load, that's why over 600k people are dead as a result of those cuts.
It literally costs us less money and is better for our economy to send aide to countries. Without that aid there is more unrest and instability, which are problems that ripple back to us. You are a fucking moron for not understanding that.
You aren't poor because of American aide, your poor because of corporate welfare queens and the tax loopholes like the one in the didphit in charge's big bill of riders.
>>1541580
They aren't anywhere near sapient enough for that kind of introspection. They're going to hear ther grandkids speaking mandarin and still be like "Damn you Joe Biden! Damn you for ruining our country and beaming gay thoughts into my head!"
>>
Just what we need - a Cuban Canadian who spends all his time in Cancun.

Fled Cruz - the people's choice!
>>
>>1541584
>It literally costs us less money and is better for our economy to send aide to countries.
Who then send their violent criminals to the US, and our politicians house, clothe, feed and give them """free""" healthcare paid for by the American taxdollar.
>>
>>1541584
How many of the 600k were American Citizens?
Do you really think the US Taxpayer has more of a responsibility to keep people alive in Gambia over the actual taxpayers and citizens of Gambia?
Why is this our responsibility?
>>
>>1541590
Weird conspiracy theory
>>
>>1541591
Because we're the richest country in the world.
>>
>>1541608
>$40 trillion in debt
>rich

dude, China owns us.
>>
>>1541615
The federal trade imbalance isn't like going negative in your checking account.
>>
>>1541608
You don't stay rich by paying other people's bills. You stay rich by making a lot of money and by holding onto it for dear life.
>>
>>1541834
Sure if you're a selfish asshole who wants to end up like Ebeneezer Scrooge, but most people rich or poor aren't selfish assholes.
>>
>>1541154
JD vance rapes kids
>>
Why bother?.. Rubio is gonna be the Republican candidate
>>
>>1542099
A manlet hasn't been elected president since Carter.
>>
>>1542143
5'9"
I mean that's nearly a manlet. Usually I think it's below 5'7", but whatever.
That doesn't make 4 foot 11 inches, Rob Reich any taller.
