Trump ordered to answer questions under oath in BBC lawsuit

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmy0ryjx7741o

A US judge has ordered President Donald Trump to answer questions under oath in his defamation lawsuit against the BBC by 11 December.

Trump is suing the BBC over an episode of Panorama that edited together two different sections of a speech he gave before the riot at the US Capitol in 2021.

Charles Tobin, a lawyer representing the BBC, said in court that "we still haven't been able to depose the plaintiff" with two months left in the discovery period.

Trump cancelled a previous deposition on 16 October, citing "matters of national importance" while he was campaigning in Georgia.

In US law, a deposition is an out-of-court statement made under oath in response to questions, which is recorded for use in later proceedings.

The judge in the case, US Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett, said that Trump must sit for the deposition by 11 December, unless the discovery period is extended.

Last week, attorneys asked that Lett compel Trump to face deposition after the last scheduled meeting did not take place.

On that day, Trump attended a midterms campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia and a fundraiser at his property in Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

In a separate filing on Wednesday, Trump's lawyers said that the president could appear for the interview between 11 and 22 January next year, and claimed that the BBC was "wrong to claim that President Trump is avoiding his deposition in this action."

Trump's lawsuit - filed in Florida - accuses the BBC of "intentionally, maliciously, and deceptively doctoring" the speech he gave outside the Capitol on 6 January 2021.

The BBC apologised for the error and said that the broadcast gave "the mistaken impression that President Trump made a direct call for violent action".

The broadcaster has since asked that the court dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that the programme does not meet the legal criteria for defamation and was not available in the US.

In July, Trump's lawyers conceded that they had no evidence that the documentary was available in the US on the BBC's BritBox subscription service - as they originally claimed - or on the BBC's website, BBC select or through US broadcasters.

Trump ultimately agreed to drop the lawsuit against BBC Studios, its commercial arm, after the BBC argued that it had "no role in creating or producing the documentary.

lol imagine listening to a black judge. Discovery will be extended.
This isn't news.

What's trump got to hide that he won't sit for a disposition in case he brought forward?
>>
>>1544359
I think he may be in the middle of midterms and fighting a war, or something.
>>
>>1544363
And yet he still finds plenty of time for weekly golf trips?
>>
>>1544367
yes. Depo prep takes days.
>>
>>1544363
but he is hurting every candidate he backs and he started the war. Maybe he should stop punching himself.
>>
>>1544369
get back to me after the midterms.
>>
>>1544363
Then he shouldn't have tried to sue the BBC to destroy free speech.
>>
>>1544373
Euros don't have free speech. And The BBC obviously maliciously edited the footage.
I'm not sure what the liggerals think they have to gain as the more desirable deponent would be on the BBC side.

[make a note to get back to Anonymous after midterms]

The video was edited. It's literally on video you fucking crazy ass bitch.

Everyone else is sure that 1544376 the migger can't think.
The US Constitution & law, thus Trump's influence, exists only within the boundary of the US Embassy on the Thames Embankment in London. BBC Broadcasting House is 4.4 miles away. One trillionth of an inch beyond that embassy's border, there's less than fuck all that Trump can do to them, least of all by those at that embassy. Putin had less power in UK when four years ago OFCOM removed RT's broadcasting license, thus denied Putin of the right to have opinions in that country
Fun Fact: Even CIA, NSA & Secret Service operatives in the US Embassy have to get permission from UK government's Home Secretary to carry guns beyond that embassy's boundary. Who is the Home Secretary? Shabana Mahmood. Appointed to that cabinet post by Labour PM Andy Basedham.
Trump supports Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia gets support from UK PM Burnham, who is pro-LGBTQ+, thus Trump and 1544376 are liggerals.
