https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2026/10/22/hegseth-wanted-eisenhowers-globe-his-office-his-staff-broke-it/

It was early this year when Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wanted to move the world. A replica of it, anyway.

Two floor globes said to be used by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower during World War II are housed in the Pentagon, where subsequent generations of Army leaders became custodians of the artifacts, according to people familiar with their lineage and an accompanying plaque dating them to the 1930s.

The historical significance was attractive to Hegseth, these people said, and his staff requested that the secretary’s office become the new home to one of the 30-inch globes.

Ordinarily, moving historical items within the building is a deliberate process overseen by trained curators. Instead, Hegseth’s staff dispatched its own team to relocate an Eisenhower globe. They lost control of the artifact and dropped it, sending the globe crashing onto its base and impaling the fragile shell near Antarctica, according to those familiar with the incident. The resulting gash appears to be several inches wide.

Pentagon officials denied The Washington Post’s request for a photo of the globe or to examine the artifact in person, but The Post separately obtained images of the damage.
>>
The Army, in an email to The Post, acknowledged that the globe was damaged and said it occurred during an “attempted move” Feb. 3. Aside from the hole, “the spherical portion of the globe was detached from the metal mounting that allows it to rotate,” spokesman Christopher Surridge said in response to questions. Ultimately, the damaged relic was not relocated, he said.

Asked where the movers came from, Surridge referred The Post to Hegseth’s office. Spokespeople for the defense secretary declined to address questions about the incident.

After publication Thursday, a Defense Department official provided The Post with a brief, unattributed statement acknowledging the mishap. “Accidents happen,” it says, “we are grateful no one was harmed, and the globe is being repaired.” The statement does not say how much the repairs are expected to cost and when they would be complete.

The Army office in possession of the globe had expected to consult with experts at the U.S. Army Center of Military History on how to ensure its safe transport and properly document its relocation to Hegseth’s office, according to two people familiar with the matter. Like others, they spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a previously undisclosed incident that is viewed as an embarrassment within the Defense Department.

The history staffers were furloughed due to a partial government shutdown stemming from a dispute in Congress over aspects of the Trump administration’s immigration policy. When the experts could not be reached, Hegseth’s staff decided to move the globe themselves, these people said.

It is unclear why Hegseth’s team did not wait for experienced help to move the artifact during the partial government shutdown, which ended the same day the globe was damaged. An “apparent lack of patience,” said one person familiar with the situation, appeared to be a factor.
>>
The episode became instant fodder for gossip and jokes inside the Pentagon, with some decrying the apparent brashness and affinity for World War II nostalgia that they characterized as common themes throughout Hegseth’s tenure as defense secretary.

Hegseth, a former National Guard officer who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, uses the title “secretary of war.” He carried out Trump’s executive order last year to rebrand the Defense Department as the War Department, reverting to the name that was used from 1789 to 1947. Congress has not authorized either name change.

Eisenhower served as a five-star general during the war and is credited with coordinating the defeat of Nazi Germany through major operations, including the D-Day landings in France in 1944. After retiring, he went on to become president from 1953 to 1961, leading the United States through the early days of the Cold War.

Did they run out of news stories about the reflecting pool and the ball room?
>>
>>1544246
>Hegseth destroying a piece of history for his personal vanity isn't news
How?
>>
>>1544248
MIGA cope. Its all it ever was.

I don't know why they're complaining, there's juicier stories about MIGA embracing child abusers, lying to courts about the Kennedy Center, or Trump's brain literally turning into mush

What a balls-up by Kegsbreath.

>>1544259
do you hear that buzzing noise in the sky?

I'm sorry. I apologize. The artist known as Lizzo is an American treasure and a strong black womyn, and I intended no disrespect towards her.

i wonder if your strawman will burn too

>>1544259
>But some huge sheboon fucking around with a priceless flute that belonged to James Madison is a-okay.
Important distinction is she didn't fucking break it you absolute brainlet. She got permission from historians, played it briefly, then safely set it down and returned it.

Meanwhile, Kegseth over here wanted it in his personal office, decided to rush the job and had his interns move it instead of historians trained in transporting delicate artifacts, and they promptly dropped and broke it. Now the thing is permanently damaged literally because he was too impatient and disregarded every step you're suppose to take when handling historical relics like this. What does it say in your fucked up worldview that Lizzo could play a delicate flute and ensure it was returned whole and undamaged, but Hegseth and his staff were so incompetent they took a wooden globe and near immediately dropped and broke it?

don't shame esl shill
they're allowed to want to kill themselves because they aren't white
>>
It's pathetic how vain these pieces of shit are.
>>
So notorious nazi whisky Pete's staff broke an artifact from the guy who beat the nazis, as if the ghost of Eisenhower slapped it out of his shaky hands himself? Is anyone actually surprised Kesbreath and his staff are clumsy and don't follow rules? Is there a news story I'm missing here, or have I just been desensitized to righty retards deliberately destroying our culture?
>>1544266
And we even have racist fucking morons defending the nazi, who could have guessed?
Good point though yeah, it's pretty fucking funny how a 'sheboon' can take out an artifact and handle it without damage, but mr. Hitler vermouth over here breaks shit immediately. Guess white supremacists are lower than shit-flinging apes; but again, that surprises no one.

And a migger dog is screaming due to being hit savagely by a thread which destroys the credibility of a Republican, just as the Supreme Commander of the Allies - prior to becoming the last decent Republican president - destroyed more than just the credibility of Nazis in WWII.

Miggers crying.
Non-miggers crying with laughter at Kegsbreath glazers that can't dial it back a little bit, making it way too obvious. Clearly not taught better than that.
Everyone's crying with laughter at the schizo migger shill humiliating itself
>anything the migger shill says
Hey, is that English?
>>
>Kegsbreath breaks a relic because of his incompetence
Really says a lot given how he's losing to the Iranians and covering up the extent of death and damage to US bases.
>>
>>1544354
>Eisenhower: Supreme Commander of the victorious Allies in WWII, later becomes Commander-in-Chief of the entire US armed forces by being elected President of the United States
>Kegsbreath: a civil affairs officer in Iraq, was in Afghanistan for eight months as a teacher, later becomes Secretary of War, loses his first war
There's a very good reason why Eisenhower was the last decent Republican president.
There's an even greater reason why that globe was intact from 1942. Up to a few days ago.

1544510 1544532 the depraved obsessed pervert always loses.
1544528
>All allied leaders of WW2 were piece of shit traitors to real Americans anyways
Fun Fact: There's a bust of Winston Churchill in the Oval Office because the one who put it there admires that half-American war-winning Conservative Prime Minister so much, so thanks for admitting that Trump is a piece of shit traitor to real Americans, 1544528.
Daily reminder that the actual good guys - the Allies - won the war and the likes of 1544528 eternally lose.
>>
>1544510 1544532 not beating the depraved obsessed pervert allegations
1544648
>I-I-I can't counter what others say which proves my opinions wrong! I know, I'll make unprovable claims with no court admissible forensic evidence about others in my usual projecting manner!
So 1544648 admits to losing.

You lost, tranny.
