US House
>Republicans are seeking to protect a narrow majority in the House, while Democrats must notch a net gain of only three seats to flip the chamber. The Democrats will have to overcome republicans latest rigging of the system where they heavily gerrymandered states they control.

US Senate Races
>Democrats need to pick up a minimum of four US Senate seats, and keep the seats they already have, in order win control of the chamber. But it will require them to win in multiple republican controlled states.

Governor Races
>Thirty-six states have races for governor this year, including most of the presidential swing states that decide so much about where the nation’s politics are heading.

>AP Exit Poll: Most Voters Believe Trump’s Policies Have Harmed U.S. Economy
Relatively few voters have positive things to say about Trump’s economic leadership.

About two-thirds of U.S. midterm voters say Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions in the U.S., while only about 3 in 10 say they’ve improved things. Similarly, about two-thirds of voters said Trump’s tariff policies have hurt the national economy.

Views of Trump’s priorities more broadly — and his capabilities as a leader — are also mostly negative. More than half of voters say Trump is not a strong leader, does not fight for people like them, does not have the right priorities and does not have the mental capability to serve effectively as president.

About 6 in 10 voters said Trump places a higher priority on his own personal interests than the country’s interests, while about 4 in 10 said he puts more weight on the country’s interests.

>South Carolina Voters Break Turnout Record For Gubernatorial Election
South Carolina voters have broken the record for the number of votes cast during a gubernatorial election, the state’s election commission announced Tuesday evening.

Close to 1.8 million voters cast their ballots as of 4:30 p.m. local time — that’s 52.3% of registered voters, and a higher figure than the 2018 record. Voters may also break the record for percentage turnout during a gubernatorial election, which hit 54.6% in 2002.

Jon Ossoff is projected to win reelection and secure his second term in the U.S. Senate for Georgia, staving off a challenge from Republican Rep. Mike Collins.

>Early Returns Look Promising For Democrats Across The Map

While few races have been officially called so far, early returns from across the East Coast look promising for Democrats.

Democrat J.D. Ford has a 24,000-vote lead over Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz in Indiana’s 5th District, which contains parts of the Indianapolis suburbs and stretches out to rural areas. Spartz won the district by 18 percentage points two years ago. Elsewhere in Indiana, Beau Bayh, the son of former Sen. Evan Bayh, is leading a race to be the next secretary of state.

Democratic Reps. Kathy Castor, Jared Moskowitz and Darren Soto were all drawn into far more GOP-friendly districts in Florida when the state legislature redistricted earlier this year; all appear to be in strong position to win reelection at the moment.

Shifts to the left are happening across all sorts of political geography: Osceola County in Florida, which has a heavy Puerto Rican population, narrowly went to Trump in 2024. This year, Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly is winning it by 20 percentage points with 81% of the vote in.

In Bourbon County, Kentucky, Republican Ralph Alvarado is only leading Democrat Zach Dembo in the race for the state’s 6th Congressional District by 8 percentage points with 92% of the vote in. Trump won the same county by 34 percentage points two years ago.

>Democrat Josh Shapiro wins reelection for governor in Pennsylvania
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Democrat Josh Shapiro won reelection Tuesday as governor of Pennsylvania, defeating Republican Stacy Garrity. Shapiro was seeking a second term. He previously served two terms as state attorney general, and he’s considered a potential contender for the White House in 2028. Garrity, the state’s two-term elected treasurer, was endorsed by President Donald Trump. The Associated Press declared Shapiro the winner at 8:01 p.m. EST.

>Black voter turnout appears robust on Election Day, voter coalition says
LaTosha Brown, co-founder of the voting rights group Black Voters Matter, said turnout in some states seemed to rival that of 2008, when Democrat Barack Obama was running for president for the first time.

She and others said turnout appeared particularly high in Michigan and Mississippi.

Brown, speaking during a media briefing organized by the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, said her organization had more than 2,000 poll observers in several states. They reported no “widescale issues” for voters, she said.

Melanie Campbell, president and CEO of the coalition, said the group has extended its monitoring efforts beyond Election Day — through vote counting, certifications and even winners’ inaugurations.

“As those of us who believe that this democracy is for all people, we have to also stand in the gap,” she said.

>FBI scrambles after giving voters blatantly false Election Day info: 'How is this real'
https://www.rawstory.com/midterm-elections-2026-2678197341/

The FBI’s New Haven, Connecticut, field office pulled its own post Tuesday about the midterms after social media users quickly flagged a glaring error in it.

In an online post that was left up for hours, the FBI office in New Haven told its more than 23,000 followers on twitter that Election Day was on Wednesday — despite Election Day landing on Tuesday. The post immediately caught the attention of several critics.

“Why the f--- is Trump’s FBI telling people that the election is the wrong day?” asked Brian Krassenstein, a prominent liberal influencer, in a post on X to his more than 1 million followers. “PLEASE Vote on Tuesday Nov 3rd. Hold these people accountable.”

>Democrats hold 2 Florida seats targeted in trump led gerrymander to rig election

Republicans are falling short in their efforts to pick up four House seats in Florida through redistricting.

Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor won reelection in a metro Tampa district, and Jared Moskowitz won reelection to a third term despite shifting to a nearby, Republican-leaning district. That race proved to be one of the most expensive House races of the election cycle.

Republicans had targeted both for defeat by redrawing their districts.

The early Democratic wins are testing the Republican strategy of redrawing the maps in some red states in a bid to maintain their majority in the House.

> Abortion rights amendment passes in Virginia
Voters have approved a ballot measure that creates a “fundamental right to reproductive freedom” in the Virginia Constitution.

The amendment passed Tuesday ensures abortions can occur during the first two trimesters of pregnancy. It allows government regulations during the third trimester while still ensuring that abortions can be carried out to protect the life and health of pregnant women. The amendment also creates a right to contraception and fertility care, among other things.

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned a nationwide right to abortion in 2022, opening the way for states to create their own policies. Since then, voters in more than one-fifth of the states have passed ballot measures protecting abortion rights.

>WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Annie Andrews wins election to U.S. Senate from South Carolina
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Democrat Annie Andrews won election Tuesday to the U.S. Senate representing South Carolina, defeating Republican incumbent Darline Graham. Andrews’ victory in a state President Donald Trump won three times by double digits is a stark defeat for the Republican Party.

A pediatrician, Andrews had previously run unsuccessfully for the U.S. House. Graham was appointed to the seat of her brother, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died unexpectedly in July. She later won a contentious special primary for the Republican nomination with Trump’s backing. The Associated Press declared Andrews the winner at 10:39 p.m. EST.

>Democrats To Win Control Of House Of Representatives

WASHINGTON ― Democrats are projected to win a majority of seats in the House of Representatives, giving them control of the chamber next year for the first time since January 2023, CNN and NBC report.

Controlling the House means Democrats will control which bills get voted on and what committees investigate, meaning the Donald Trump administration will be in for a rush of subpoenas.

Democrats have also signaled they will consider impeachment inquiries against Trump and members of his Cabinet, especially Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), the incoming chair of the House Oversight Committee, has said he’ll pursue aggressive investigations of Trump’s family business and the cover-up of the Epstein files. He issued a two-word statement Tuesday night in response to news that Democrats would win the House.

“Lawyer up,” Garcia said.

The president warned his supporters about impeachment and begged them to pretend he was on the ballot, which they may have done. The rejection of a majority of Republican House candidates is an implicit rejection of an unpopular Trump, whose war in Iran spiked gas prices and who broke his twin 2024 promises to cut inflation and not start new wars.

Democrats took the economic lesson of 2024 to heart, with many campaigning on an affordability message. Even when they criticized the president, they sought to tie Trump’s political agenda and self-enrichment schemes to ordinary Americans’ struggle to afford life necessities.

“Everything has become more expensive here in America because of Donald Trump’s failed and toxic policies,” Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who will likely become the first Black speaker of the House, said last week while campaigning in Texas.
>>
>>1546653
As for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), he has signaled interest in remaining House Republicans’ leader in the minority, but he could face competition for the job from Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Steve Scalise (R-La.). The House will elect its speaker and minority leader at the beginning of January.

Aside from vigorous oversight of the Trump administration, Democratic control of the House will put an end to partisan lawmaking by Republicans, who used their majorities in both chambers of Congress last year to enact a continuation of sweeping tax cuts partially financed by cuts to federal food and health programs. It’s unlikely Democrats will reverse those cuts, however, and it’s not clear what policymakers can accomplish with control of the federal government divided between the parties.

Jeffries could also face some challenges leading a larger, more ideologically diverse caucus, with a new crop of avowed socialists, already nicknamed “The Bloc,” set for a showdown with moderate Democrats over U.S. support for Israel.

With another two years of Trump as president, Democrats will not fully control the legislative process, so anything that gets done, by definition, will have to be bipartisan. During his campaign stop for Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-Texas), Jeffries suggested immigration reform could be an area of bipartisan lawmaking.

“As House Democrats, we’re committed to getting the situation turned around. We know we have a broken immigration system. We know it needs to be fixed in a comprehensive and bipartisan way,” Jeffries said.

During his first term, Trump struck a surprising deal with a group of Senate Democrats and Republicans for “comprehensive immigration reform” in 2018, then quickly backed out. It was part of a pattern: Trump also killed a bipartisan immigration deal in 2024 as discontent with record border crossings fueled his reelection campaign.

>WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Amy Acton wins election for governor in Ohio
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Democrat Amy Acton won election Tuesday as governor of Ohio, defeating Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. The victory by Acton, a physician who was Ohio’s COVID-era health director, marks the first time since 2006 that a Democrat has been elected as governor. Acton became a household name in 2020 as Ohio dealt with a wave of deaths, anxiety and social disruption at the start of the pandemic.

Although she is a Democrat, Acton worked closely during that time with Republican Gov. Mike DeWine. Ramaswamy, a 2024 presidential candidate and biotech billionaire, ran with the endorsement of President Donald Trump. The Associated Press declared Acton the winner at 10:49 p.m. EST.

>Democrats pick up a Kentucky House seat

In a race viewed as an early test for Democratic efforts to take the House majority, former federal prosecutor and Navy veteran Zach Dembo has won an open seat created by Republican Andy Barr’s decision to run for the Senate.

Dembo is also a former aide to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.

Beshear easily won the district during an off-year gubernatorial contest in 2023 and has spent time campaigning for his former legislative director.

Ralph Alvarado, a physician and ex-state senator, was the Republican nominee.

The district includes Democratic-trending Lexington and covers multiple rural counties that are Republican strongholds.

>Missouri voters reject abortion ban for a second time
Voters defeated a proposed amendment to Missouri’s constitution that would have reimposed restrictions on most abortions.

The defeat Tuesday came just two years after voters approved an abortion-rights amendment, making Missouri the first state in the nation to undo an existing abortion ban through a ballot measure.

The Republican-led Legislature responded by referring a new, less restrictive version of an abortion ban to this year’s ballot. The measure would have allowed abortions only for medical emergencies and fetal anomalies, or in cases of rape or incest up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. The Legislature paired the latest abortion measure with a prohibition on certain medical procedures for transgender minors.

Abortion-rights advocates, led by national progressive groups, heavily outspent abortion foes in a successful campaign to defeat the ballot measure.

>Missouri voters reject Trump-backed congressional map
Missouri’s new boundaries for U.S. House districts were designed to help Republicans win an additional seat. But voters rejected the redistricting legislation on Tuesday after a yearlong legal saga.

Missouri was among eight Republican-led states that adopted new congressional districts after Trump urged them to do so last year.

Missouri’s new districts were used in the August primary. But they were later placed on hold by the Missouri Supreme Court, which ruled they could not be used again unless first approved by statewide voters. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld that decision.

The revised districts were placed on the November ballot because opponents collected thousands of petition signatures demanding a referendum.

Republicans had hoped the new map could help them flip control of a Kansas City-based district held by Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. But after an unsuccessful court fight to defend the map, supporters spent relatively little on the referendum campaign.

States that should not be flipping are flipping and that is highly suspicious. It's completely reasonable to at least want to investigate. Either way, I still believe in President Trump, I still believe he is the guiding light for America's salvation. He is a man of greatness and can accomplish much in 2 years, he already has accomplished much the last 2 years. I have no doubt about our eventual victory under President Trump.

>Democrats flip 3 House seats in Iowa
Iowa had an all-Republican congressional delegation going into the election. Democrats have now picked up three of the state’s four House seats.

In the 1st Congressional District, Christina Bohannan defeated Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks. About 800 votes separated them two years ago, even though Trump comfortably carried the district, setting the stage for Bohannan to win on her third try for the seat.

Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott, a state senator and a Lutheran minister, defeated Zach Nunn in the state’s 3rd Congressional District.

And finally, Democratic candidate Lindsay James, a chaplain, defeated Republican Joe Mitchell in an open seat in the state’s 2nd Congressional District. The move by Rep. Ashley Hinson to run for the Senate had left the opening.

Both parties invested heavily in a state where farmers are dealing with headwinds from high gas prices and retaliatory tariffs.

>Democrat Bob Harvie Defeats Brian Fitzpatrick In Key Race For House Control

Democrat Bob Harvie is projected to defeat Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) in Pennsylvania’s first congressional district just north of Philadelphia.

Harvie’s victory in one of the country’s most competitive races is another sign of the magnitude of the Blue Wave sweeping Republicans out of power in Washington. It’s not a seat that will be easy for Republicans to flip back.

First elected in 2016, Fitzpatrick is a moderate Republican who’s frequently bucked his party on high-profile votes. His district is one of only three that voted for Kamala Harris and a Republican House member in 2024.

Fitzpatrick easily defeated past Democratic challengers after taking over the seat from his brother, Mike. Harvie’s candidacy was the first since 2020 to receive support from national Democrats, including ad spending and a visit from House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

>Democrats win control of North Carolina House
A Democratic surge has swept the party into control of the North Carolina House.

“Thank you, North Carolina. I can’t wait to get to work,” Democratic House Minority Leader Robert Reives II said in a speech Tuesday night.

The Democratic legislative victories could give greater power to Democratic Gov. Josh Stein, who has clashed with the Republican-led Legislature during his first term.

Stein has vetoed 18 bills since last year. But Republican majorities gained the support of at least one Democrat to override a dozen of those, including measures supporting school choice programs and limiting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Heading into Election Day, Republicans had held 71 of the 120 House seats.

>Democrat Jocelyn Benson wins election for governor in Michigan

Democrat Jocelyn Benson won election Wednesday as governor of Michigan, defeating Republican John James. The victory by Benson, Michigan’s secretary of state, means the governor’s office will remain under Democratic control in the swing state. Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was barred from running again by term limits. Benson served as Michigan’s chief elections administrator in the 2020 and 2024 elections. She gained national recognition for defending the results of the 2020 election when they were repeatedly questioned by President Donald Trump and his allies after he lost the state to Joe Biden. The Associated Press declared Benson the winner at 1:45 a.m. EST.

>WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Abdul El-Sayed wins election to U.S. Senate from Michigan
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Democrat Abdul El-Sayed won election Wednesday to the U.S. Senate representing Michigan, defeating Republican Mike Rogers. El-Sayed, a former public health official, will succeed Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, who is retiring. El-Sayed will be the country’s first Muslim senator and his victory holds a seat that his party could not afford to lose as it tries to flip Senate control in Washington.

It's down too Nebraska, Mississippi and Alaska.
Odds are Republicans keep Nebrasak and Mississippi, and it'll depend on how effective was at trump rigging Alaska for how that race goes.

I like El-Sayed even more, he's not going to even pretend to play nice with the people who defamed and smeared him. Democrats need to learn to be more like this.
