Is the gas being fucked with? I've had more on-off knock sensor codes in the past couple months than I've ever had.And it auto clears itself so something tells me it's not the sensor.
Water in the tank. Not yours.
>>28958167They could be illegally adding more ethanol than allowed like during Covid. We had some stuff test 35% here back then.
>>28958167>Is the gas being fucked with?EPA issued a waiver to allow E15 for regular gas.https://www.convenience.org/Media/Daily/2026/March/25/EPA-Issues-Emergency-Waiver-for-E15-and-Other-FuelThe average gas station works through its storage tank about every 1-5 days, so the fuel isn't prone to separating its ethanol and gasoline fractions. Ethanol can absorb water, but you'd definitely tell since water sinks to the bottom after a while. Some cars, especially if turbocharged, are sensitive to ethanol fractions because ethanol is a highly oxygenated fuel. High ethanol fractions in a car that doesn't adjust appropriately for it tend to burn lean, which can sometimes lead to misfires.Really depends on the vehicle. I have the 2.5L MZR, so it'll burn anything that's combustible, but not for long without an E85 tune, since that'll kill my spark plugs. But it can do it if I had to, and won't misfire either. It's a big, stupid engine that drinks just about anything that can explode.
>>28958167>I've had more on-off knock sensor codes in the past couple months than I've ever had.So this has been a normal thing for it?My first conclusion wouldn't be to blame the gasoline. It's more likely your knock sensor is slowly failing or you're getting occasional knock for some other reason.
>>28958192C'est la guerre
>>28958200I suppose it's become regular, yeah.
>>28958167>>28958167Where do you get your gas from? Is it from a reputable gas station? Do you use the same one every time?
>>28958260Costco
>>28958167Yeah this is news from a few months ago and lol that it took you so long to notice. Like a week into Trump's oil crisis everyone started noticing a tank of gas was getting them significantly less range. I've been getting like 50+ miles less per tank for months. Yet more shit we have to accept as "the new normal."
>>28958265Costco has been a major culprit of fucking with their gas, they've been subject to several lawsuits for fucking up people's cars and they lost them all.Do not use any of Costco's additional services, I've found them all to be shit. Their pharmacy treats you like cattle and it takes weeks to get antibiotics that you need immediately. Their eye doctors are a joke and it takes months to get service. Their gas destroys your car. They're only good for saving 30 cents when you buy 4x as much as you need so everything expires before you can eat it. And for the love of God do not buy their vitamins and supplements, they're all fake shit from China and India that make you sick. This really shouldn't surprise you, Costco is the official store for browns.
>>28958278Switching from 10 to 15% is not a huge deal. Things get blown up online, I'm not seeing any real evidence that fuel has been diluted recently, though you're free to provide any. I'm not into the war or the regime but it's easy to take the red herring at face value when one should be making sure their car is actually okay.
>>28958278Dunno what's up with this. I fill up at racetrac and murphy and I've been getting better mileage, mostly the summer air
>>28958167Gas stations are starting to cut costs with fuel.A local station by me made my brother's car run like absolute shit for that tank And his car is flex fuel capable.I don't think it's the e15 to blame.I think everything is getting expensive and stations are cutting costs.
>>28958300Welp kiddo, looks like we'll have to change our carb jets and run off of moonshine soon
>>28958278I track the MPG of everything of gas I've ever had in all of my cars. I've not seen any MPG loss over the past 3 years. Buy higher quality gas
>>28958316Alcohol cars are based. But you can always just buy higher end gas from Shell or better
>>28958167Yeah. A lot more ethanol is being jammed into the gas, to keep prices down during the Iran boogaloo, but they've been fucking with even the "ethanol free" gas. I started using it and gained about 70 miles out of a tank of gas. A few weeks later, my mileage suddenly dropped right back down to regular 89 octane-levels.
My light went off the other days, turns out I just didn't screw the gas cap in hard enough I guess. Never had that happen before
>>28958167They're adding more ethanol to the fuel. Ethanol has a higher octane rating so the computer is able to add more timing before knock if you get an especially strong amount of ethanol in your fuel the amount of timing the computer is able to add doesn't make sense to it so it trips a code thinking the knock sensors aren't working. When it detects knock the sensors faults will clear after a few droves. You can test the knock sensors pretty easily with a multimeter and a hammer if you wanted to
>>28958445That's not correct anon.Non flex fuel cars have a maximum timing curve. My LS for example will not add more than 26 degrees of timing no matter the fuel.E15 is also 88 octane and no computer is gonna get confused with adding too much timing with 88oct That being said, e15 can fuck with air fuel trims on cars not designed for it
>>28958167No more summertime high MPGs for me. I really, really hope 91/93 stays the same 5-7% or less.
>>28958478That's not going to do a fucking thing against the incoming shock, but whatever. D.C.'s answer is always piss themselves and throw money at whoever screams loudest. Motherfuckers better put in dedicated.pumps for that garbage.
>>28958476My engine technically has e85 capability but I've dug into the ECU and know there's no way it actually detects and adjusts for the alcohol percent. Even though there are logic maps and tables for e85. All it's doing is running knock limits and when the timing hits a threshold it is guessing which part of the e85 table to use.So if your car isnt factory perfect it might be running a 25 or a 7% equivalent eth map with 10-15% content.Granted that some engines actually do have an alcohol detector or some more elegant way of using sensor data for the estimate, but most do not and run just like mine.Worn cats? Worn plugs? Old piston rings? More ethanol and relying on the ECU probably isn't the best idea. And personally I wouldn't run static base map tunes (no on the fly ecu fueling correction) during times like these for anyone here who does so.
>>28958481To be fair the vast majority of "10% eth" labels on stations across the country were anywhere from 3 to 8% most of the time, with more in winter for the easy vapor pressure changeup and less in summer because of the corn growing cycles. Was pretty rare to see actual 10% fuel and the best stations' 93 was usually always less than 3-5% year round. Socal doesnt apply but even the PADD 5 region that the Cali pipes serve followed this distribution most of the time.
>>28958488I'm and cannot be bothered to read all that
>>28958593Old car = ethanol bad, fix your shit or get a new one
>>28958597My carbed 67 F100 runs fine on e15.
It's the sensor. It's always the sensor. Unless you buy gas from shitty indian places in the ghetto, and even then it's just going to be water rather than low octane. It aint 1932 gramps.
>>28958173More ethanol would be higher knock resistance you fucking wrenchlet god damn this board sucks
>>28958634Charge cooling isn't significant enough to matter until about 35% so the octane rating of the blend is simply the octane rating.
>>28958621>but i never...woman argument
>>28958278Gasoline shrinkflation is fucking wild
>>28958167Stop noticing.
>>28958697Are you stupid as well as a wrenchlet? The number is inaccurate because it's being added (allegedly), so the number is under estimated. Adding ethanol to 87 E10 will only increase the octane rating, further reducing the susceptibility to knock, as would adding water since it's inert. It's the sensor, it's always the sensor because "bad gas" hasn't been a thing in 50 years. Please try and keep up redditor.
Indian immigrants watering down your gas
>>28958167>laughs in 8:1 carbureted purely analog motor
>>28958842I did not say ethanol does not increase the octane rating.
Put some diesel i there like 2 quarts a tank get that joules boosted back up
