I see small, indie dealerships everywhere peddling shitboxes, new and old, and always wonder what it's like to buy from one of them. The only testimonies I read of them are either "they sold me a lemon" or "they won't give me the title", as well as title washing. If you're a wrencher and don't mind fixing up a lemon (if it is one), are these really that bad to buy from if they have a car you want for a good price?
>>28958461These guys buy up the stuff that carmax and carvana pass on which usually means there is something wrong with the car such as title issues, frame damage, age. There's really no reason to go here as a white man all the dealerships are stocked full of inventory, no reason to support these kinds of people.
>>28958461A lot of them popped up during the covid boom. Some are okay, others are selling cars like they fire gold nuggets out the exhaust pipe. With used cars skyrocketing in price and people being unable to buy from franchise dealerships, they will likely continue to boom for a couple more years before insolvency.
Their cars having mechanical issues is the least of my worries. It’s the fact that every single one of them is a rebuilt title. Not fucking with frame damage or a fender that was fixed by pacos body shop and held together with zip ties and sheet metal screws. Do not buy from here. They are cheap for a reason.
>>28958461Depends entirely upon who's running the place. Is he mechanically inclined and can tell a POS from something possibly worth owning just before the auction (uncommon) or is it some guy who's trying to make a quick buck (most of them)? About the only "tell" I've ever found is that the former will have some moderately interesting cars around because he's ultimately a car guy while the latter will have nothing but soulless eggshit on the lot.
>>28958522>interesting cars>soulless eggshitAre the boomers ever going to learn?
Everywhere has that one used car dealer ruining it for everyone else. Around here there's a spot that puts cars on carfax for like 25% less than what the KBB value would be, if the car was as described (it never is). They lure you in and won't let you take it to a PPI because there's something very wrong with it and that's why they got it at auction for next to nothing.Basically if the price is too good to be true and the car has been listed for weeks or longer, you should just avoid the entire inventory.
