I have a new Civic Type R, I have never had a car newer than 2008 before. Is bleeding brakes the same here?1. Can I just buy bleeder screws like on regular brakes so I can bleed them by myself?2. Is there any space magic that will fuck ABS (etc)? My 2008 has ABS but I just basically don't let the master cylinder get empty, don't turn the car on and it's fine. Same here?3. Anything else I need to know, only the booster is electronic so I can still pump pedal with car off?

>>28959220>I have a new Civic Type RStopped reading there.Gay ass fwd torquelet overpriced economy grocery getter family sedan.
>>28959220lmoaaaa lol this ricerrr
>>28959220>new Civic Type R,Ur Mexican.Anyways, if you are bleeding the system without removing something like the ABS unit or master cyl, it's no different.I use a power bleeder for convenience.
>>28959239>Anyways, if you are bleeding the system without removing something like the ABS unit or master cyl, it's no different.I use a power bleeder for convenience. Thanks, that's what I thought, but I haven't wrenched on anything new and things like the electronic parking brake are new to me.
>>28959239>>28959240While we are at it, can someone recommend a power bleeder? I have never used one, realizing that the brembos have to be bled on both sides, seems like a fucking pain in the ass.
>>28959220>I have a new Civic Type RWhy?
GenZ is helpless.
>>28959246I run the Motive power bleeder They sell a bunch of adaptors for a bunch of cars. And other companies also sell adaptors as well.
>>28959306Thanks, will check it out.>>28959282I was here before moot was asian.>>28959274Don't want to pay extra up front and maintenance on Supra or C7 Z06 or deal with a used sports car. It's bad enough as is. Yes, turbolag, understeer, and fuckhueg, but overall I probably made the right call.
>>28959346>Yes, turbolag, understeer, and fuckhueg,Ok as long as you know
>>28959220why the fuck would you need to bleed your brakes on a brand new car? At most you would need to swap out rotors and pads.
>>28959220Tech here!>1. Can I just buy bleeder screws like on regular brakes so I can bleed them by myself?Yes, bleeding brakes is as straight forward as any other car with an ABS system in the last 2 decades.>2. Is there any space magic that will fuck ABS (etc)? My 2008 has ABS but I just basically don't let the master cylinder get empty, don't turn the car on and it's fine. Same here?Exactly the same. The only thing to note is with EPB (electronic parking brake) systems, when you do brakes, you must put the EPB system into service mode BEFORE pushing pistons in. With some manufacturers you can end up destroying the ABS module, or the internal pressure sensors within the valve block. (ask me how i know). But since you're not doing a pad swap/changing the brakes, this should be irrelevent.>3. Anything else I need to know, only the booster is electronic so I can still pump pedal with car off?Yes you can, its all the same. Even with brake by wire systems made by ZF (like c8 vettes) with hydraulic back up you can pump with the pedal, the only thing to note with those cars you have to have the battery disconnected. Your car should be fine as is. Im pretty sure your booster is still vacuum operated.
>>28959430> Tech here!Yo!> Exactly the same. So basically like an old cars:> accessories only mode, aka power but no turning starter (however the fuck I do that with a push start)> connect tool, brake service mode> can turn car off and do my thing> accessory mode> turn maintenance mode off?And thanks regarding #3. Your GR? One parks next to me atm.>>28959411Was new a year and a half ago, point of saying "new" was that its the last gen, but yea, I could have said that better.>>28959396Ya, I don't understand people trying to push their car as the best thing ever on here all the time.
>>28959246>realizing that the brembos have to be bled on both sides, seems like a fucking pain in the ass.you really don't You only need to bleed then inboard side when the caliper is dry and you're trying to bleed the air out. the outer screw is all you need to bleed for a flush, you'll push enough fluid through to get all the dirty fluid out from both halves, dont forget they are bridged with an external pipe. If you wanna be extra extra thorough, you can bleed the inboard side too, but ive never had issues doing just the one side to get old fluid out.>>28959411maybe he's prepping for a track day, i'd definitely do a flush with RBF600. or based on the picture he's sent he got an FK8, the youngest of which are now 5 years old
>>28959448Random picture off of the internet. I normally just do TYP 200 DOT 4 Brake Fluid on all my cars. Not sure if that's better than stock here. Assuming it's NOT DOT 5, but haven't googled yet.>You only need to bleed then inboard side when the caliper is dry and you're trying to bleed the air outInteresting, might just do that now.
>>28959444>While you are here, stupid question, I put it in service mode and can turn the car off? So basically like an old carsExactly like that!>Your GR?Nah, customer vehicle, I drive a shitbox e46.>>28959458>I normally just do TYP 200 DOT 4 Brake Fluid on all my cars. Not sure if that's better than stock here. They're basically stock or better, nothing wrong with it. Fresh fluid is always better than old dirty fluid regardless of what fluid you use. We supply Textar DOT 4 by default unless the vehicle is performance/track oriented, then we supply RBF600 since its the best blend between street/track. Or RBF660 for full on track cars. The higher performance fluid is much more hygroscopic so you have to replace them more often. Textar/(any oe based fluid) we recommend 2 years. RBF600 a year. RBF660, about 2-3 track weekends, or 6 months.>Assuming it's NOT DOT 5ye stay away from dot 5. completely different fluid. DOT 5.1 exists but theres no point in using it, its just lower viscosity and slightly higher boiling points. Its backwards compatible but worse than race DOT 4 fluids so theres no point in using them.
>>28959470> I drive a shitbox e46We all love that shit. Ty for all the advice!
Last question before I go (just confirming the obvious "yes" answer) - should I just do clutch fluid at the same time and use the same brake fluid there?
>>28959484Truth be told kinda unnecessary, I'd go based on fluid condition, but yours shares the same reservoir with the clutch and brake. every time i did the clutch fluid it was never that bad condition wise. Considering the car is 1.5 years old, I wouldnt bother. In some cars its more trouble than its worth due to slave placement, or in some cases requiring special procedures (as i've learned with E90's) to properly bleed. If its easy to get to and do, i'd say do it, If it seems like something thats a pain in the ass to do, i wouldnt worry about it. I havent done clutch fluid on a FK8/FL5 yet so i cant say if it is. Personally i woudnt bother with it, unless you're autistic and want the same fluid throughout the entire shared system. If anything i'd probably double the service interval to 4 years. Clutch fluid never gets hot enough for it to actually matter except to flush contaminants and moisture content fron the lines to keep the lines and seals happy.
lolll who 'changes' brake fluids?
So many fucking retards itt. From the guy changing to dot4 in a dot3 system to the moron who thinks flushing the brake fluid is part of track prep. This is what happens when autoshop is no longer available in school and they get their automotive knowledge from onlyfans and latest GTA release.
>>28959643
>>28959643Hahaha, I love seeing people be so confidently wrong. Always makes me chuckle.>From the guy changing to dot4 in a dot3 systemFirst of all, no one here mentioned switching fluid grades. That said I'm assuming your implying you can't use or mix different DOT standards by saying that in which case your misinformed. DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 are all glycol based and are all cross compatible, the only difference being boiling point specs and viscosity. You can "upgrade" a DOT 3 system to a DOT 4, but using DOT 3 in a DOT 4 system is frowned upon because it's a worse/lower spec. That doesn't mean you can't use it in a pinch. DOT 5 is the only one you cannot use since it uses a silicone base. Plenty of track guys switch to race spec DOT 4.>to the moron who thinks flushing the brake fluid is part of track prep.Clearly you've never pushed your own car enough to boil over your brake fluid. And if you ever done a proper HPDE event you'd know how strict they are about brake fluid in their tech inspection forms. I've signed off on quite a few BMW CCA inspection forms, and PCA event tech inspection forms. If you ever done a proper track event, you'd know. Read the attached "Brake fluid section". PCA is way more strict on this. They require a brake fluid flush 90 days before the first event. Technically I shouldn't even be doing PCA inspections because I'm supposed to have a certified stamp, but I got grandfathered in because I've done so many so my signature is usually enough.I've personally lost brakes by boiling over fluid on a small technical track, on my BRZ when I had one because i was an idiot and pushed the car too hard, and it's the one maintenance item that I'm super strict about. "Pshhhh, Oh I don't need to do a brake fluid flush, the car is only a year old". Needless to say I learned the hard way that day, but I digress.t. Someone who clearly doesn't have experience or know anything. Just a piece of paper that says I do.
I've thought about going to one of the pca hpde events and the one suggestion for my car is brake fluids and maybe different pads.
>>28959643Using fresh brake fluid is pretty good for track prep actually. Don’t be a retard. It’s cheap and easy and not worth risking your brakes.
>>28959679As a general rule of thumb always change the brake fluid before your first event of the season. It's cheap insurance. You don't even need to get the fancy race fluids, you'd never be pushing the car hard enough to boil over fresh OE grade fluid. The key thing is that it's done before the first event of the season. Pads is up to you. If you have meat on the pads (More than 6-7mm), I'd say just go for it and feel out how the OE/OE replacement pads feel. Once you upgrade you're going to appreciate the difference a lot more the next time you go! I tracked my wagon on no-name (whatever the car came with) really shitty, down right scary pads. I ended up turning them to dust, but I learned a whole lot about the car as is stock and appreciated my new semi-metalic pads a whole lot more. Track prep realistically isn't a big deal. You can look over the attached inspection sheet. Tl;dr, as long as nothing's falling off the car, all suspension components are tight, you got decent tires, enough meat on the brakes, and fresh fluids. (Ie don't be an idiot and bring an unsafe clapper) You will be fine! Youll learn so much more with an instructor and class time than you'd ever learn on a private single track day event. That said I've heard BMW CCA is way better run than PCA. I loved my experience with BMW CCA personally.
>>28959693Hey look, I found one of the retards. Its a sealed system. If theres contaminants then your system has failed. Its designed for high temps. If youve burned it your system has failed. It takes a decade to absorb enough moisture to make a difference.Do you change your coolant every time you go to the track?Or your diff fluid?
>>28959643>From the guy changing to dot4 in a dot3 systemlolwut they're all backwards compatible save for dot 5 fuckwit
>>28959715but m-muh changing interval and water...
>>28959701What sane man goes to track day in an Aston Martin? That thing is going to shit the bed by lap 5.
>>28959709Diff fluid and coolant failing isn’t going to affect my brakes lmao. And it’s not a closed system. Rubber hoses are slowly permeable, the seal at the caliper isn’t perfect and it’s made worse when driving hard and heating up the brakes.>designed for high tempsIt’s not designed for track conditions or hard driving. Anything consistently close to or at boiling the brake fluid they don’t plan for. Keep being a retard.
>>28959722Believe it or not, the V8 vantages are criminally underrated. They're actually one of the most reliable astons out there, and genuinely capable on track. That vantage at the track day is my buddies. It did really really well on track. My boss has owned one for many many years and has done multiple track events every season, No issues. The only thing you really encounter with them is that they hate weak batteries, so all the electronics throw a shit fit. Oil leaks from the pan and front cover, and if you're really nitpicky, the nav system plastic gears shear off. If you can wrench owning one isnt any worse than owning an M car.For the price you pay in the used market you get a whole lotta bang for buck. Although I really shouldn't be saying this because i dont want the value on them to skyrocket like everything else good that people shit on because they're too afraid of muh "oh no its an high end euro shitbox its gonna bankrupt me !!!!". I really want one but the public is already catching on that these shitboxes are actually really fucking good, so not as cheap as they used to be, a few years ago you could buy a nice example for like 40-50k canadian. Now they're 60-70k for a good example
>>28959220>swiss cheese brake discsPeople need to stop doing this shit
>>28959822>the nav system plastic gears shear offis this a screen that goes in and out of the dash with a motor?
>>28959868Folds up and down. You can 3D print replacement gears, or order them direct from aston for about 15-20 bucks
>>28959907ah right
>>28959220please help me understand why you bought this. i test drove one late last year while i was on the market. it is way too expensive for how little you get. buy a BRZ if you want a cheap little toy.
i sold mine because of the rev hang, you needed to shift 1-2 super slowly to not make the car buck or grind the gears or wahtever
>>28959985how do we get CAFE rolled back?
>>28959987drumpf already did that but there are markets other than the US and manufacturers are probably not going to design cars with different tuning for cafe especially when it could be reinstated in a few years
>>28959985It doesn't really have rev hang, my gut reaction (genuinely, not trolling) is that you watched a review about a Civic Si and confused it with this.Car doesn't buck. Second grinding rarely IS really an issue and it's been there since at least 8th gen, super strange that they still can't fix it.Btw, acceleration, gear shifts, visibility, steering all feel better on 8th gen Si. Braking and lack of body roll is what makes it impossible to go back.
>>28959731>it’s not a closed systemYou are an idiot and your opinion on any matter is worthless. Please use a trip code in the future so you can be filtered.
>>28959444Bruh, it doesn't matter if it's a year and a half old. The point of bleeding the brakes is to get out any air that gets in the line. You only get air in the lines when you replace the calipers. If you are not replacing the calipers, do not bleed the brakes. You are only wasting brake fluid for no reason then.
>>28960465I don't even know what to reply to you. Troll post? Idiot AND ignored the whole thread?
