yay or nay? I feel like a lot of modern sedans need them or they feel too claustrophobic
>>28960249For comparison
>>28960249"No sunroof on car" is a pretty good 'poverty indicator', unless it's a performance car obviously.
>>28960257Is the m850i a performance car?
sunroof is the gayest shit ever
>>28960249I usually keep it closed because the sun shines in my eyes when it's open.
>>28960249>>28960252I really wanted a sunroof in my car, for the same exact reasons as you, that it would "open things up." But i rarely open the shade and even less open the sunroof. Most of the time it's too sunny or going on the highway. I'm still glad i have a car with a sunroof, it's better than one without a sunroof, because i'm not a lanklet who loses head space. However, in hindsight, i shouldnt have made a sunroof a dealbreaker on my car and went with choices potentially better in other areas.
>>28960249Stupid shit. But if you want a higher trim for other features you're probably getting one whether you want it or not
>>28960299for some lanklets it is tho, they lose head room
>>28960249It does really bring some light and life to the interior. Also, a Starlink works through the glass of the sunroof, so you don't have to fuck around with mounting it on the roof or getting shit signal mounting it at an angle in the windshield or hatch. On the other hand, slick top is probably stronger if you're going on really bad roads.
>>28960249I can only speak on 20-30 year old shitboxes but they're just a liability between getting cracks and leaking water after the seals get sunrot. It's not such a problem that I'd turn a car down for having one, but it's one of the first things I look at in a car cause fuck replacing those things.
>>28960283t. poverty trim rider
>>28960249modern sunroof mechanisms rattle a lot all the time and frequently get stuck when the cable mechanism stretches unevenly, but my carbon roof sounds like a drum when it rains
They add weight to the top of cars.If the car I want exists and has a sunroof, great, I actually use them. But I'd rather a car without even an optional one.
>>28960249I have never used my sunroof in my life and don't get the point. My $5,000 200hp car has one, my $50,000 450hp car doesn't.
>>28960366>buy shitbox>open the sunroof on the very first drive home>forget it exists after It's like a ritual almost.
>>28960249>LightingReduce the size to a porthole occulus on the highest center of the car and use infrared blocking glasses. As long as 1/4 of the light gets evenly spread to the darkest spot, it is not going to feel dark.>Sky viewUseless as everyone already gets half of the sky to them of they get close to the nearest window, and the other half is comfortably in shade. Only 1 in 3 seats don't see the same sky the other 3 can see. To see more of the sky, it is better to see through a mesh shade.>Ceiling accessNot only not safe while running for obvious reason so they put a tiny one on the front where the place to stand has the stick.Only multi row passenger cabin would benefit from a top access hatch, ie limo, minivan, van, 3 row huge suv where there is standing space in the center like an APC would yet the ceiling is low enough to be able to stand above. Otherwise it would just be the bus top hatch that requires ladders to go up.>top ventilationUse vent holes, it is easier to screen and cover without flooding in lights and water.
>>28960427thank you chatgpt
you NEED a sunroof if you have black headliner, otherwise its just too dark imothanks for coming to my ted talk
>>28960259yes lol
>>28960249im tall so for me it's no sunroof whenever the option existswhich sadly isnt very often
>>28960249Cars would all benefit from making the windshield go up farther and not putting in the sunroof. Sunroof doesn't really help anyone besides rear passengers. Who the fuck here has kids or cares enough about them to make it a determining factor?
>>28960249Nay. I've never really liked them but then I also don't care for convertibles
>>28960249Do you want a sunroof? Then get one. They let the heat out pretty quickly and can help with balding if you're terminally indoors, your head needs sunlight.Only consideration is if you have a roof rack and intend to use it. I don't want glass on my roof if I'm gonna be hauling things on top.
>>28960249Sunrooves take strength from the shell. they're all good and well but I'd rather larger windows I actually look out of than a hole in the roof.
>>28960249wrenchlet thread
>>28960472Some cars have more head room when there's a sun roof.
I have a topknot in my hair and I'm pressed up against the roof even with the seat low. I wish my car didn't have a sunroof at all. I don't use it that much. I tried to use the sunroof a lot when I was younger. We had a Volvo with an actual sunroof i.e. a metal piece that I had to be manually opened with a handle. I was in a VW Tiguan - the moonroof was so shitty the shade barely blocked the sun it was so thin and cheap. At least my shade blocks the sun.
>>28960658not any i've ever tested :(
>>28960675every bev sedan in production has the sekurit Electrochromic sun roof due to it being an inch thinner than the fabric liner
>>28960687ah im a poorfag so that's completely outside my reach lmao
>>28960249will new car sunroofs leak in a decade or two? wondering if they managed to figure that shit out in the 30 or so odd years since 90s sunroofs.
>>28960687Yeah it's like this with my car. People opt for sun roof more because it frees up head space, especially in the backrow.
>>28960249Modern sedans need a sunroof or they're suffocating. High beltline + black interior + thick doors and center console is evil.Old cars, even high end ones, could get away with no sunroof because interior colors were lighter, windows were bigger, beltlines were lower, door panels were thinner.
There literally no point to this thingThe 3cm hole in the roof makes me feel so luxurious
>>28960699>will new car sunroofs leak in a decade or two?Yep, because leaks are not usually the cause of that single seal you can see against the roof. Most common cause of leaks are that the drain hoses getting clogged with leaves, pine needles, etc. Most times, just pushing through the drains with some heavy fishing line, such as what a weedwhacker will use, gets them draining again. Other times the hoses pull off the drain spouts due to heat and shrinkage making you have to gain access somehow, like pulling down the headliner some and then putting the hose back on with a clamp to hold it for the fix.
if you have money and buy new cars frequently then sure have fun with a sunroof. however, if you like to squeeze your shitboxes out for maximum longevity you do not want a sunroof. a sunroof is a leak waiting to happen. it will leak at some point. every single sunroof ever made will leak.
>>28960903exactly this. it only took me one experience with all this shit starting with troubleshooting fixes to eventually just ripping the fucking thing out and replacing which itself was a several hour battle.
>>28960249I will never fucking ever buy a vehicle with a sunroof. They're one of mankind's worst inventions. They add weight to the worst place possible and there's a 1000% chance they will leak or break. Buy whatever you want if you're buying new but as a used vehicle buyer they really piss me off and instantly kill my interest in a vehicle. Also everybody I know with one never ever uses it. It always stays closed with the sun shade over it. What's the point?
>>28960687Every single Uber driver I've talked to about glass roofs mentioned they're noisier, colder in winter, and hotter in summer. They also look like shit from the inside when even a bit dirty.
>>28960249Nay- Loss of headroom- Something else to go wrong- Weight high up in vehicle- Potential waterleaks
>>28960432You're welcome
They're silly>makes car warmer/using aircon more>more weight on roof>additional cost and point of failure>sometimes not even a choice if u want a model with more features
>>28960249i owned a car with a sunroof for 3 years. i think i used it once because i was paranoid about it getting stuck open when it rained.
>>28960249I love them but especially on older cars they are a fucking nightmare. They trap moisture and at some point your roof just starts rotting away.
>>28960249Sunroofs are a water leak waiting to happen. Aftermarket sunroofs are the absolute worst thing you can do to a car.
