I guess I'm a little confused then; it appears to me it is a 4 door because, as I suggested, 4 door cars simply sell better to a wider audience.

Because it looks better that way. If you lower the belt line it intersects the wheel arches which looks even dumber with an angular design. Then the proportions of the cabin and "body" won't look right either.

People against high belt lines can never explain why they don't like it. inb4 muh visibility shut up the belt line isn't why you can or cannot see out of a car.
