20 years from now when every manufacturer has finally caved in and makes their own EV, people will look back on the Luce and wonder why it was so hated when everyone ended up doing the same thing anyway.

It's like the pontiac aztek. a car that was hated when it was new, but now every manufacturer has a crossover that tries to be the same thing the aztek was. look at the Toyota CH-R for instance. no one bats an eye at it when it is basically just toyota's aztek.

It's funny, it's actually a good comparison but not at all for the reason you think. The Aztec was not even close to being a trendsetter. You call the CHR "Toyota's Aztek" like Toyota didn't already make the Highlander/RX350. Everyone saw that trend coming and everyone jumped on board at the same time. The Aztek was hated because it was ugly and offered nothing compelling to offset its appearance, just like the Luce. Now imagine if the Aztek cost a half million dollars.

those aren't comparable to the aztek. their styling isn't striking while the CH-R is clearly trying to be different on purpose, like the aztek. you don't understand the aztek or what it was trying to do at the time. the aztek did actually have unique features not found in any other crossover at the time. you could use them as campers all by themselves. the only other comparable car to the aztek at the time was the honda element, which tried to do something similar and also had unique styling compared to a rav4/honda CR-V.

I'm not even sure what you want me to expand upon. do you want me to explain to you what a camper is because you somehow don't know? or you don't know what being unique in a crowd of cars that look very similar to one another means? My original point is that the aztek looks muted compared to cars like the CH-R today so people aren't bothered by the aztek like they once were and probably wouldn't understand why it was originally so hated (and if you asked most people, they actually don't). It was striking for it's time, and the CH-R is trying to do that now. why is this so hard to understand?

It's actually like saying every manufacturer that tried to make a convertible out of their shitboxes was copying the miata because they were. for awhile in the 2000s, FWD shitbox convertibles were the norm. in the future, EVs by Lotus, Lamborghini, Bugatti, etc, will be draw comparison to the Luce. and no one will bat an eye just like no one cares show ugly the CH-R is now because every manufacturer wants a stand-out crossover like pontiac did.
