How long do you keep your cars? Do you have a "forever" car?
>>
>>28966806
Tend to buy ex demonstrators, with a few 000's on the clock
Keep dailies until they start to break - usually around 150k miles.
I'll keep my weekend car until I can't drive it any more
>>
I had to sell my forever car for court and lawyer fees. It was my nest egg for house down payment, but now I will never be able to afford another one. End my suffering.
>>
I don't have working speedometers so I can only guage the age of the car by what is wearing out.
because I am severely autistic about steering and handling I don't let anything stay worn out.
>>
>>28966806
Until it is undriveable. My current car only has reverse half of the time and partial hydro-pneumatic brake failures are frequent (which is why I engine brake for almost everything). The car in full working order is worth $2k-2.5k, being 10 years old and all. Afterwards, my budget for a car will be about $1k or less.
>>
>>28966824
>10 years old
>worth $2k-2.5k
What absolute shitbox is that? I didn't know cars could depreciate that much in so little time.

Dodge dart
chevy cruze

>Do you have a "forever" car?
I still drive my first car. It is the de facto forever car.
>>

Until I explode them lol

90 celica blew a valve something or other and I scrapped it after a year
2001 Volvo s60 had for 3 years, accidentally put the bumper over one of those parking blocks, cracked the rad on the hot side, and warped the head
92 Integra got smashed 6 months into owning it
Now currently have an 01 golf I've had for 8 years now? Probably will hold onto it forever as it's cheep and easy to work on and parts aren't bad at all to find, or pay for

It is a Honda Accord, but I live in a state with no vehicle inspections and bought the car knowing it has a warped frame. No accident history (I know the person who I bought it from who bought the car new, so I would know this too).

Purchased at $2k with the following issues
>no power adjustable mirrors
>no reverse camera (wouldn't use it anyway)
>warped frame
>ant's nest in passenger door with eggs
>blown headgasket
>no A/C blows warmed (system is charged)
>bad tire pressure sensor
>damaged clearcoat and missing paint on certain components

I fixed the headgasket, ant's nest, sensor and all but one of the adjustable mirrors (this needs to be replaced outright). A/C is would cost about $600 in parts, since I would just change everything.

I bought it because it could run and drive and was a Honda with relatively low miles for its age (I rarely drive too).
>>
I have owned 4 cars in my life. I only own one car now. I have never sold a car. I don't plan to change that.
>>
>>28966806
Last car I had I bought new, kept it for 10 years.
Could have kept it for longer if I wanted, but it was reaching the point where repair/maintenance costs would have jumped significantly (had to replace the rear shock absorbers, and judging by feel the engine mounts would have been the next item on the list), and I wanted something that was more fun to drive.
I plan to keep my current one for at least 10 years.
>>
>>28966806
I bought two cars and sold 0.
>>
>>28966806
I have a gx460 with 165k on it and I'll probably keep it until it blows up. haven't done coolant valley plate yet but I figure if I get that done once it goes out I'll be able to keep it awhile
>>
>>28966806
i have never sold a car, i still have the first car i ever got 20 years ago.
>>
>>28966844
Are you retarded? Why buy such an absolute shitbox for $2000?
>>
>>28966806
I still have my first car, so..
>>
>>28966806
I tend to stick with one platform for a couple years or so before wanting to try something else. I'm more into driving than the car itself. It's tough when you only have room for single vehicle too.
>>
honestly yeah, i basically keep them forever
>1995 mazda miata
i paid $2000 for this car in 2012 and it makes me happy, glad i kept it through some bad times.
>2006 tacoma single cab 4x4
paid $8000 for this in 2013, it's my main DD since I do a lot of handyman shit

I am just really really good at fixing cars and by choosing simple cars I can easily diagnose them
>>
>>28966806
The first car (truck) I bought in 1992 is still in my driveway.
Ive had many vehicles since then.
Ill put 40k miles a year on a shitbox (work) and drop it off at the scrapyard when im done and buy another but that truck is still here.
>its a 1966 F100 if anybody is keeping track
>>
>>28966806
I'm like a hospice care center for shitboxes. I'll try and keep them as comfortable as possible for as long as possible but I'm their final owner.
>>
I'd still have my first car that I got 12 years ago if an immigrant didn't swerve out into oncoming traffic and floor it because it didn't want to wait behind a few cars at a red light but I still have my second car and will drive it until it's dust
>>
>>28966806
I will run them until they get to 300000Km which is somewhat sellable in my country.
I want to buy the shitbox of my dreams someday and I will just keep that car until I die.
>>
>>28966806
I have a 1983 Mercedes 300D that I brought specifically because they last forever and I plan on keeping it and maintaining it forever. It only has 100,000 miles on it. Just gotta amass parts over time.

Until I can't anymore, which isn't too long since I live in the rust belt. I drove pic related another 3 months after this pic was taken, it's a 2nd gen Ford Escape. I just bought a Subaru Outback and hope to get about 5 years out of it, maybe more if it's still in good shape
>>
>>28966806
I have one. It's a gray import jap car that is very weird and doesn't share many parts with other platforms from the manufacturer. I'll keep it as long as I can. It sucks too cause my state will probably defect it for stock parts and the loudness of the exhaust but fuck it I'll keep it. Good chance if the government bans ice cars and I keep it on the road I'll be grandfathered into a way I can keep it too. Last point, every guy I've ever spoken to has a car they regret getting rid of. Many good reasons too, like starting a family and needing house money etc. but they always have that one they should have kept and regret it.

The engine. Apart from the headgasket it was fine. It is the lowest mileage K type I could get my hands on and it is NA. The failures that have come on eventually (brakes and reverse) will eventually be repaired, but engine braking is fine in the car down to 10 mph, then I must use the brake pedal and tomorrow I will trace the issue, along with the reverse. I will start with a tranny resync since it is an autotragic.

I always joked I'd drive this until the wheels fell off. So far only one has so I can't get rid of it yet.

me and my sister would blow up every piece of shit handed down to us by relatives so when i got a ranger off my uncle i swore i would keep it alive. its spent significant amounts of time/miles as a stop-and-go commuter, scrap truck, delivery truck, dump truck, tool truck, drunk off-roader, vanlife mobile, and suffered through multiple rounds of 7-10kmi oil changes, close to 100kmi on the same spark plugs + wires and shitty used tires shaking the hell out the damn thing for years at a time. just did a compression test and the numbers were fine, just did spark plugs and fuel efficiency shot back up to 30mpg. truck's paint job is scratched up to utter hell, though i looked at some 18y.o pics of it from soon after i got it off my uncle and the paint was scratched up to utter hell... i gotta say most the concrete the old man left dried up in the bed has chipped away. im a couple hundred miles short of 350k and now im wondering if this engine has a real chance at making it to 500kmi.

old man bought a new 2008ish ranger i had my eye on till i found out it was an automatic.

I have several regrets selling cars that just should never have left my possession, but the circumstances at the time just meant in the middle of a city there was really only one car space so something always has to go to make room. So I figured I would just keep one, like yours its a bit of an orphan JDM grey import so its a pain to keep going but fuck it, the 90's cars just hit all the right notes and if I sell it then its never coming back.
Have had quite a few other cars over the last 10 years just because I moved to somewhere I had room for 2.
None of them I miss, they were just basic cars, not bad, not good but not desirable either.
>>
I never intended to sell any of my cars.
I am more than familiar with being stopped at a red, looking in the mirror, and watching as the person behind just keeps on going right into me. To the point that I get shivers sometimes at lights when people approach quickly.
I have zero intention of selling my current one. Please, teenagers, stop running into cars I’ve spent hundreds of hours restoring… ;_; I get a tiny fraction of what I spend on these cars from insurance. How about pay attention to the fucking road, eh?

I have a 2006 330ci and a 2007 Fit.

I wish they would fucking die so I could buy a new car. Fuck.

Before them I had a 1993 civic. Before that I was underage to drive.
