What's the worst automotive purchase you've seen?

My ex financed a Kia Borrego at $920 for 72 months at 20% interest
>>
>first car
>no real credit to speak of (was a dumbass and didn't get a CC till I was 23)
>2003 Lancer OZ rally
>48 month 12.99% interest
>paid sticker
Was fun till the timing belt blew and I lost the engine 2 months after paying it off.
>>
I have no relatives, associates, romantic partners, or friends who do that kind of shit.

The worst is probably my brother and his wife getting a minivan when they should have gotten a wagon but the wife is one of those people who grew up buying groceries once every 2 months on the 2 hour drive to WalMart in the BIG CITY (of 25,000, an hour away). So of course they had to go for the big gas guzzling nightmare barge.

In the grand scheme of things that's not terrible but it's the worst I'm personally familiar with.
>>
You gotta do what you gotta do. If you have terrible credit you're boned and have to start somewhere. But yeah 20% is absurd I wouldn't go that far.

Americans are so cucked

I was dumb and young, I only had 500 down for the car and my previous one blew up.

whatever happened to the longpost tales from the dealership anon

as opposed to what?

>>
What are these rates? Mine is 4,3%.

Interesting time to buy a gas guzzler though

My mom once managed 20.99% interest in a non buy here pay here situation in 2010 ended up being like $30,000 after all the 72 months

Fresh from basic training, the 1stSgt at the replacement detachment gathered us up in formation and implored us not to go buy a car from the used dealerships just off post. He told us that if we wanted a car to go to him and he would drive us an hour away to Nashville to a legit dealership and hold our hand through the process so we don't get fucked over. THE NEXT DAY a guy I came in with showed me his absolute shitbox that he financed at 24%. I asked him WTF he was thinking and he told me that he really needed a car (he didn't) and that they made it easy to pay the bill by filling out allotment paperwork (automatic deductions from your military pay) so it was too easy to ignore. Wonderful. My guy probably had to reenlist just to keep up the payments.

Based
>Going to a fucking WalMart for food
Vomit worthy

Where the fuck do they live?
>>
>>28968806
They live in an actual civilized place now (a medium sized, democrat-run city in a democrat-run state where there's actual normal brown people) but she grew up in a blighted former single industry town, now no-industry town, literally 3 hours from the nearest "city" (town) that has scheduled commercial flights and everyone is everyone else's cousin, it is truly a bleak place. The only thing people do is drink alcohol. And don't get me wrong I like alcohol as much as the next loser but I mean literally there is nothing to do but drink.

She bought it like 4 years ago (still 3 years of payments) with 60,000 miles on the clock. It's a Tau V8 that literally burns a quart of oil every week. She commutes over the mountains daily where it gets like 9mpg uphill kek. She decided she needed a real V8 SUV because she was paranoid about getting stranded in the mountains and "raped by ugly mountain people", her actual wording. No idea why she went with a Borrego of all things, she looked at Tahoes and Armadas too. I think she could only get the financing approved through Kia. It is comfy though.

My uncle literally dumped his entire savings and first NCO paycheck on a then new gen 3 Camaro with a 305 literally his first day off back home. Weird because he's one of those uptight tightwad conservative Mexicans. He then ended up stationed in Europe and the Middle East for two decades and it sat for 20 years in my grandparents driveway. It had like 12,000 miles when he finally got rid of it by like 2015. Now he only drives VW & BMW after getting used to them in Germany.

>>28968474
brah, your ex will be paying almost a grand total of $80K for a vehicle that's from 2009 and that I can find for around $3K USD and with 100K+ miles used on various websites?

Really?

And it gets maybe 16 mpg? At least it takes the cheap gas (87 octane in the USA) but this is still a very bad venture.
>>
>>28969684
>It's a Tau V8

I can't believe that the gooks actually had a v8 engine in 2009. That's just wild.
>>
>>28968536
Paying cash is for retards. You should always debtmax if you're a responsible IQ haver.
>>

Late 2000s Hyundai was based, I was so jealous when saabkyle got his Genesis 3.8 ZF auto in 2010, cause that's a nice car today.

It was shit back then too

More than that after the gap insurance and all sorts of fees. She's attractive and doesn't usually have to see the consequences of her retarded choices because people usually feel bad for her and fix stuff for her. Legit watched her drop a $200 bottle of wine, then a second $100 bottle of wine trying to pick up the first and some old dude in the parking lot we were in just out of the blue offered to pay and replace both. She's too embarrassed about this purchase to ask for help though.
>>
>>28968474
My mom is an insurance broker so I see all the real world prices of shit. I see people paying well over $50k for RAV4's, over $45k for Mavericks, and so on. Ironically these people think it's insane to spend $60k on a half ton. And that's just new shit... The prices people are paying for 2-4 year old used shit with 50k miles is fucking insane.
>>
>>28969991
OP here. I work in collision response analysis and sometimes see the paperwork for vehicles involved. Worst I've seen so far is $55k for a used 2020 VW Jetta. Not a GLI just a basic Jetta SE.
>>
>>28970004
I should rephrase that. Worst most fucked over total out I've seen. The guy owed $55k on a 2020 Jetta SE at the time of collision and it was totalled.
>>
>>28970009
Jesus christ, I remember when my mom owed like 10,000 on a car probably worth a 6,000 trade in and I wanted to fuckin commit suicide

How the fuck do people get that legally required yellow truth in lending paper showing how fucked they are and sign the motherfucker? There's a reason why they call us goyim.

Some people are just too uneducated or stupid to realize they're being taken advantage of even when it's mathematically spellled out for them.

I went to a used car lot once just to look at a 5 series for shits and giggles a while back and saw it first hand. I'm a brown mestizo and sometimes when I want to fuck with people I put on a fake accent and pretend im some "mi no espeak de english" wetback. Sleazy Persians salesmen came over and was bullshitting me about how $30k was a good deal for it (F10 528i with the shit N20, falsely listed as with an I6) so I just did the accent and wasted his time. Didn't run my credit but I said my score was 600 (788 IRL) and he said it'd be $599 a month for 84 months kek. If I was some ne'erdomath who can't speak English or a dumb suburban woman I'd probably not know any better.

I now have a BMW with a proper I6 I only paid $19k for and its owned outright, warrantied to 100k miles.

Based, people are so obsessed with what car is "the best" but the best car is one you fucking own.
