I want to quit my call center job in insurance and I want to become a mechanic. No clue where to begin in the USA.
Any advice?

book business is rapidly being exposed as a cancer. start your own business.

dealership life is hell because you generally get paid a flat rate. if it takes you 8 hours to replace a mirror, you get paid 2. this can be a decent setup if youre experienced and can knockout jobs quickly but you aren’t. warranty work especially sucks for this reason
indie shops are hit or miss.
learn a skilled trade, be it machining/fabricating, painting, electrical, or welding. anyone can do the mechanic stuff but its hard labor and theres not much money in it. skilled trades are the best way to be successful in this sector

First, call center jobs suck but mechanic also sucks, you'll be just as underpaid and bathed in carcinogenic oils and solvents and toxic fumes every single day
>No clue where to begin in the USA.
You have two routes, go to a wrenching school or buy a project car and learn the hard way, both routes will cost you about the same and you'll need to buy your own tools anyways because the tool grift in the mechanic world runs deep. After that maybe then you'll get hired by some shit tier local tire shop for a few years before dying from cancer or liver failure

I used to say that mechanic schools were a waste of money but with certificationism rampant everywhere you kinda need to have something to get your foot in the door. That and few mechanics will take on an "apprentice" any more so that avenue is pretty much closed though it was the superior way to learn how to actually work on cars in a shop.

>flat rate
Yeah it sucks. Leads to all kinds of abuses from both management and labor. That said, everybody wants an estimate first, and you kinda need to keep to it, so you end up doing a version of flat rate one way or another. As for the job paying a point-2 and it taking significantly longer you either git gud or if the job is far more difficult than it should be due to corrosion, etc, then you have to recognize that and approach the customer about it. If you're lucky they'll nope out and it becomes somebody else's problem and you can go on to something that pays.

4 out of those 5 skilled trades suck ass and pay slave wages.

What’s the fifth good one?

If you have to ask a anonymous filipino flip flop forum for advice on how to pick up a wrench and turn it; then your already screwed before even getting into why being an auto tech is the worst trade to begin with.

Boomers cannot conceptualize a call center job as being bad. They see being a phone monkey as a great job because you're sitting down all day in an air conditioned building, you yap at people for a little bit, then type up a quick shitpost into the computer system, then break for lunch.

Call center jobs were hotbeds for insanity; theres a reason cops have to go to them daily for something insane like an employee losing their shit over having to answer the phone... in a call center.

Listen you foreign third world fuck. In the UsA you need certified, license, bonded, insured work. You DO NOT pick up a wrench and turn it. This country protects the consumer from trash like you.

Go back to your hut and fornicate like rats eating each others shit to survive.

Don't become a mechanic unless you get into something very specialized.
It's a dead end job.
If you want to have a decent career as a mechanic, go into the military and work on aircraft.
Working on cars will make you a wage cuck for life unless you can manage to open your own garage.

Start moonlighting for family and friends. Keep your current job and feel out the industry a little.

You fucking simps don’t know how to file claims and put trash out of business.

Weaklings.

Third world loves taking advantage of losers like you.

Well, you'd want to start off by getting a job working on cars. Once you have an accepted job offer, then you can put in your two weeks notice to the call center. That's how I'd start, anyways. Hope this helps

Fabricating but that's because you're basically an engineer applying machining, welding, electrical, and painting
>>
>>28968829
Thats a lot of shit talking for someone who doesn't have bubblegum.
>>
>>28969260
literally just walk into any tire/lube shop and say you know how to turn a wrench and they will offer you a job
bonus points if you can read and write

I worked at a jiffy lube in high school. I really wanted to kill the manager and co workers. Thank god for my gf who sucked me off each morning.
