What's /o/'s opinion on Toyota Celica VII? Worth buying in 2026? I've played some 2000's racing games and this car quite fun to drive in these video games.
>>
>>28968929
it's a toyota corolla with a body kit
>>
>>28968929
It's indeed incredibly fun to drive, the suspension is excellent, steering is nice and precise, i just can't find parts for it in my country which is why i got it sitting. So if you can find a good manual one go for it.

And no it's not a corolla, they got a different chassis and suspension and the celica has much better road handling.
>>
>>28969030
it has no LSD though, so not exactly optimal for a fwd "sports" car

Imagine being a little kid and falling for it this hard

>Imagine being a little kid and falling for it this hard
Same thing applies to every child who grew up to own a Porsche, Ferrari, BMW or Mercedes.
>>

The gt-s was spicy, unfortunately the car got labeled as a chick car and was mostly forgotten. It was a proper hot hatch during a time when hot hatches forgot what it meant to be a hot hatch and ballooned in size and weight, the Celica was light and nimble and the gt-s motor revved like a hot hatch should
>>
>>28969324
I mean, does it even make more than 100hp below 5000 rpm?
It looked cool, same with the nu-eclipse from the early 2000s, I liked the looks. Also labeled a chick car. At least that offered a V6.

It's too bad they can't bring such cars back with more practical hatch or wagon shapes and tractable engines (no a hyper-boosted 3 cyl will not do)
supposedly they are making a new I wanna say 2 liter turbo 4 for GR purposes but as of now it's racing only but could potentially supplant the entire shitty 2.5L engine family they use now in 5-10 years.
Their 4banger is hated for being rough and needs a new gen.
>>
>>28969327
The 3rd Gen Eclipse v6 didn't make that much more hp, even if it had a wider powerband the peak doesn't hit as hard as the Celica GT-S because the Celica was 500lbs lighter, giving it a better power to weight ratio. V6 Eclipse 210hp @ 3000lb vs Celica GT-S 180hp @ 2500lbs

It's a close matchup but the Celica has 14lb per HP vs 15lb per HP of the Eclipse
>>
>>28969332
it certainly made more torque at a lower rpm
ur not mentioning rpm
celica was legendarily peaky and didn't make much power at normal rev ranges
>ignore torque
>ignore rpm
>only hp
sigh
>>
>>28969337
I did mention it lightly, I said
>even if it had a wider powerband
Still, they both have the similar 0-60, 1/4 time, and top speed
>>
clowned on by twenty year old hondas when it was new
>>
>>28968929
I love the lines shame it sits so high
>>
>>28969327
>I mean, does it even make more than 100hp below 5000 rpm?
Barely, and the 1zz is actually quicker up to 5800rpm, some prefer it because of that.
>>
>>28969037
He can install one if he needs to, the one from the MR-2 fits the Celica just fine.
>>
>>28969528
Could a limited slip diff be installed on a Kia Sportage? Would it help retain traction on muddy roads? Asking for a fren.
>>
>>28969530
Yes you can install it on any car.
How muddy are we talking about though? It will help with light mud where one of the wheels loses traction, for deep, heavy mud you need a locking differential.
>>
>>28968929
>here is your gtr bro
>>
>>28969551
deep heavy mud
:(
can I get a rear locker?
honestly it was slipping in lighter mud this with AWD and all terrain tires, I just want more traction
>>
>>28969570
why don't you just get a better car
>>
>>28969530
Fuck off Kia fag, buy a better car or stop posting
>>
>>28969570
>can I get a rear locker?
Nah, it's not a traditional body-on-frame 4x4 with a deticated differential carrier that can be modded fairly easily and can actually handle the stress of a locking diff, it just requires an entirely different axle and drivetrain design.
>>
>>28969598
better = trading a ton of refinement, features, and fuel economy for an improvement in bad road performance

>>28969644
oops, is there anything that can be done?
how about just a limited slip differential?
>>
>>28968929
It's a corolla with an ugly body kit that toyota tricked retards into thinking was sporty.
>>
>>28969654
Just search if a kit exists for your model.
>>
>>28969654
ah yes the oh so refined kia sportage, lmao. you'd be better off with a crosstrek or a rav4. i'm saying this as a genesis owner.
>>
>>28968929
Ugly, fwd, very slow. It was disappointing when new and it's disappointing now. I feel old as shit for remembering when these came out.
>>
>>28969661
>you would be better with these shittier more outdated cars
no?
>>
>>28969665
Look at this way, for someone looking to get a car, just a car to get around, the Celica gets you way more of a car in every way with way less money, you could spend three times the amount for a Fiesta and shit.
>>
>>28968929
>Worth buying in 2026?
kinda old now so if youre a wrenchlet youre cooked
>>
>>28969675
at least they can handle the dirt driveway to your double-wide when it rains
>>
>>28968929
Looks ugly. Drives like a shitty Corolla.

I have a 1999 manufacture date 7th gen Celica, total 272k kilometers.
These are notorious for eating oil, but the previous owner was kind enough to do an engine reassembly and drilling appropriate holes somewhere that it does not eat oil anymore.
Had it myself since 2022 January, just needed basic shit only like new battery, change oil and some other inconsequential repairs all below 100 EUR every time I go to the mechanic.
Good car.
Starts up every single morning when I need to drive to work. -27 degrees celsius outisde? No problem, starts and "just works" anyway.
Drives very fun, much better than a Corolla, can take sharp corners at faster speeds. I want to kill myself every time I have to drive my parent's SUV like some pensioner.
Bottom is rusted out for sure, so the biggest limiting factor for me is rust rust rust and it will probably be the thing that kills the car rather than anything electronic or mechanical related.
Will keep driving it until I get kids or something because this is a cool 2 door "sporty" looking car that is not giving me a headache.

I have one with a 2zz. Fun to drive, handles genuinely great, reliable, very practical. Reasonably comfortable on lowering springs. Bit loud but the previous owner put a muffler on there, not sure what the original sounds like.
The only flaw with the car is the lack of tunability and aftermarket support. You gotta open the engine up to get much out of it, a supercharger is preferred over a turbo because its easier on the transmission. Not a problem if you're just looking to daily it.

Significantly better than previous gens of celica btw. Those were ACTUALLY just corollas with shit handling.
>>
>>28969701
I wrecked the engine mounts of my Celica twice with the amount of offroading and dirt-drifting i did with it. And it's a lift back chassis so the rear has pretty high ground clearance.
