When will Mazda make a cheap two seater lightweight convertible EV?
They would sell like hotcakes
>>
Model S battery, dry, by itself, without motors or all the other systems… weighs over half of what an ND does.
>>
>>28968933
if you want a heavy car go fetch some batteries from the ocean and dump them in your car

MG already sell one. Buy one of them.

MG Cyberster
>4,079 to 4,376 lbs
ND MX-5
>2,341 to 2,460 lbs
Do you see the issue?

If hotcakes are so easy and profitable to sell, why not just sell hotcakes themselves?

In two more weeks when the paradigm-shifting battery technology of the future goes mainstream.

But if you filled up an Mx-5 with batteries, it would be heavy too.

That's my point...
I've had miats for... 12 years now. I don't want another vehicle. I don't have a dream car. I've driven over 170mph several times on public roads in much faster cars and denounced pure speed and replaced it with redline runs from lights or corners and stunts. Also, even 30 year old miats can go 125mph, despite the "short" gearing.
>>
>>28968933
Would you be okay with the 30 mile range? Because most people wouldn't be okay with that.

What we really need to start doing is using smaller motors, smaller battery packs and manual transmissions. That's the only way you're going to get something lightweight with a usable range using the pathetic battery technology we have to work with today.
>>
>>28969788
>even 30 year old miats can go 125mph
I've been on track with NA, NB, and NC Miatas and 99% of them can NOT hit 125mph on the straight.
That 1% are the built Ford 2.5 or V6 swaps.

During my last track day, I was behind a ND and was gaining on him at 1/4 throttle.
BRZ aren't much better either

>I've been on track with NA, NB, and NC Miatas and 99% of them can NOT hit 125mph on the straight.
I've had an NB and NA. I live out in the boonies. Both can drive ~126. But, there are obviously differences based on what diff you have.
I've driven over 125 with the top down in a '95 and my only mod was replacing the cat with a resonator.
>>
>>28969906
I've done 125 in an NA 1.8. It took a long time on a Texas (Mexican) highway. Much longer than any race track straight.
I'll bet you can't truly do 125 in a stock 1.6, or even possibly with the air conditoner running or a headwind. Maybe if you're going downhill.
>>
>>28968933
All Mazda has ever needed to do was provide a VGT, intercooled turbo option of 250hp. Set it up to have the full torque band from 2500 to 6000 and drop the diff ratio down.
It's actually quite amazing that they have kept the miats without any kind of high performance option for 35 years. And we're all on the weeb site I know why but still.

EV fags will never understand what it means to be a real car enthusiast. It's no point, they're retarded cerebrals.

Why a manual transmission?
In almost all cases a single speed will be enough and lighter than any multi-gear.
>>
>>28970154
Because he's a retard who thinks a gearbox is magic pixie dust that multiplies speed without using more power.
>>
>>28970154
Enter a corner, drop a gear beforehand and preload the suspension before turn-in instead of chancing the automatic with "will it shift or not."
Use clutch kick to recover from situations that would automatically get you killed in an auto.

>>28969937
Can anyone explain why Mazda never did this? Was it just poor sales on the mazdaspeed NB?
>>
>>28970173
There is no need for having several gears with an electric motor. It has a broad torque band. Most electric cars are single gear.
In industrial applications multi-speed gears on electric motors are also non-existent to extremely rare.
In Diesel-electric locomotives the whole point of having an electric drivetrain is to forgo the need for a multi-speed gear.

>>28969024
>typical EVfag knowing nothing about how a car is made
ICE cars are always going to be lighter because they require fewer parts. EVs on the other hand have to be ridiculously heavy tanks because of all the motors and batteries they require to run. If you want a light sports car, stick to something with an engine.
>>
>>28970216
wrong
>>
>>28970272
Dumb retard moron, EV drivetrains are infinitely simpler and have fewer parts, the only reason they're so heavy is because batteries are much less energy dense than gasoline.
>>
>>28970278
what's with all this EV shilling here recently? get a real job

I didn't post the MG because I like it, but more to show EV fanatics that there is a 2-seat convertible EV available, so they back off from my beloved lightweight Mx-5's.

Yeah batteries are fag shit
>>
>>28970205
Mazda never has any money to do anything because Honda and toyota constantly eat their lunch.
>>
>>28968933
Add manuelle. Just copy the first gen Formula E cars, minus the dogshit battery.
>>28970154
It's fun.
>>
>>28969920
>>28969926
This is why I can't take Miatas seriously.
Driving dynamics are amazing.
But the power is horrible.
300hp would make a miata a fucking riot.
But they are stuck with 150hp~
>>
>>28968933
EVs were supposed to be the cheap car of the future, but they're all shit until companies stop filling them with iPads and surveillance systems
>>
>>28970683

I assume you're talking about crank HP. Having driven NA/NBs with 200-250whp - Normies would die. That's WRX levels of power with ~800lbs out of the car. Fun for sure, but your average moron driver would roll it or spin it instantly. The industry doesn't build stuff like that because enthusiasts talk a big game but buy nothing. Example - new Dodge truck with the hellcat engine being 4 door. All the poors who would never buy one cry about not being the lightest RCSB layout to save 300lb for drag racing. All the people who buy them want 4 doors.
>>
>>28970274
No. Absolutely right.
You don't need multiple gears in an electric car.
>>
>>28970154
>In almost all cases a single speed will be enough and lighter than any multi-gear.
"Enough" is clearly not enough and there are no real examples of a "light" EV. How about you prove it doesn't work. Because it works in the real world.

>>28970169
It would reduce the amount of torque needed to move the vehicle, retard. Meaning we would no longer need a motor that makes 1000.ftlbs of TQ and worthy pack to feed it all to drive a single tall gear. You should really try riding a geared bicycle some time, you fat pig. You would gain some knowledge and lose some weight. Seems like you're struggling in those areas.
