Sup /o/, been researching some cars I moved to the midwest for work recently and need a car for getting around. The market is fairly good BMW's are in my price range 8-12k, 80-115k for 5 and 7 series in the 2014-2017 models. I had a 2003 BMW(3k) before ran that thing for years and put maybe 50k on it, till a flood took it. Coworkers I ask keep carrying the conversation from a BMW to a new Kia, to a Honda, to just get a truck that's 45k. I really don't drive that much, around 18-12 miles a day tops(if that), I work IT so most days is WFH. Just need something to get me around when winter shuts my state down for 5-6 months.

What's the deal with used BMW's. I plan to ensure the timing chain and oil fully changed prior to buying at the very least. Is there something notoriously bad about these models/cars? While not sold on a BMW the prices, milage, and type of car I want fit into the budget. Is there something that's a redflag to ensure I get checked before buying that is a common symptom of these cars you need to fix ASAP around the 80-100k mark? I really don't plan to push this car, max speed I would be going is ~45mph on flat box street layouts.

Not looking for is dis car da best? Just wondering what common gotcha's and redflags to look for on these used models/years.

lmao no, I moved from Phoenix metro to the midwest. I could get around without a car pretty easily there with the bus and an ebike after my car died. Been about 6ish years since I owned a car so obviously out of loop on a few things. I don't need to know if sirs is car good? Just what things on a used BMW I should look out for when shopping.

You sound like a wrenchlet so a goyota gaymry is probably more suited for you.

If you're not really driving it you don't really need the Ultimate Driving Machine. Sounds like your area is ass for driving anyway.
Pretty much anything will do for winter if you have snow tires on it.
I should've put snow tires on it.

don't bother with a bmw, even their goysoomer slop is overkill for what you're doing and you'll end up clogging your valves from disuse. get a wrangler plug in hybrid, you'll barely even start the motor but it'll still have one just in case

In your case, or any case, I would look for a one owner 735i or 740i with options. 740i is preferred, Msport is preferred, and the vented massage seats.

Next I would tell you not to listen to /o/. They will tell you the 7 series is too big and that bmw is bad and to get a civic with a few mods. These are poor fags.
735i with water pump thermo done and oil well housing. The 740i is basically problem free.
These cars are basically the pinnacle of what engineering can do. They’re faster than most cars, they have comfort suspension or sport suspension with the push of a button you can be more comfortable than 95% of /o/ or have a better handling car than 95% of /o/. All of this with room for your friends or your wife and kids and every modern luxury and safety feauture and a banging stereo.

7 series is the goat

You think there might be a reason why a vehicle would lose 90% of it's value after 10 years?
>>
>>28973369
I respect and do love a good M series beamer, but either youre gonna pay 3x the car cost at the dealer for PM and maintenence or youre gonna sownd money on special tools for PM. The worst thing is their fucking compootas
>>
>>28973670
7 series is goat for always having electrical and suspension issues and spending more time in shops than on the streets, doesn't matter how solid the engine is

Keep telling yourself that poorfag. E65 was twenty six years ago. You can get the air ride refurbed for $300. It’s not for poor people, I agree. Stick with the McDonald’s kid. They just work

The BMW V8 is quite possibly the single worst engine made.
>>
I ain’t reading all that
It’s the ultimate drifting machine
that’s all you need to know

its a fuck hueg car, I really doubt it can outhandle a lightweight shitbox that weighs under 1000 kg

This is your appearance and that of every bmw fag out there... or one of those pics of lower class ppl in sunday suits.
You're in CARgo cult.

I don't dress that well. I mostly wear free clothes.

>>28974105
Lateral grip isn't handling and the 7 series is so heavy it's an understeering boat anyway

>OP details out just needing to know what places to look for when buying used on a 10k used BMW series
>going to be driving it like a grandma to get to work and back, so probably not stressing it to make any of the online talk of gripes noticable
>10yr old in 10-12k price range used car probably doesn't care all too much about resell value
>"why do you wanna do that? Use it as a sports car or fuck off"
And /o/ complains the used market is dead, yeah it's dead because any used option someone looks at for a to and from work car is gawked at. Is it overkill or a bit 'fancier' than needed for <100 miles a week absolutely. If it's in your budget what does it matter all that much? The gripes BMW owners have are 9 out of 10 related to when they are trying to peel off from a red light or use it as the weekend fun car pushing it.

>>28973685
Because BMW owners are absolutely obsessed with updooting when they get out of their 84-month finance program.
>>
>>28974123
You think a McDonald strut Fwd car on bicycle tires handles better than a 50/50 wight distribution car on fat 280s double bones and active suspension just because it’s got 450 lbs less weight?
>>
>>28974513
Bmws are all McDonald's (cheap) cars and they're all automatic (gay)
>>
>>28973685
Because they are overpriced to begin with and zoomies refuse to buy used cars
>>
I watched a BMW take out a telephone pole the other day. Went clean through it and kept going for another ~100 feet into some trees.
Pretty impressive stuff.
