You can fit more gear in the car than on top of it, because a roof tent is collapsible but a box isn't.

I'm buying a Delica and I might LARP in that some, even though I'm 90% positive I'll be doing baby-tier van camping in it because we have shit fuck all for public land around here.
as a city slicker, I much prefer camping in an SUV than a tentit's a bit more cramped sure, but I hate the vulnerability of sleeping in a tent. plus it's more of a hassle than folding the seats down and sleeping in the back
