New to wrenching, what's a reliable website to get replacement car parts for 30 year old shitboxes in Europe? Alternatively what's a decent way of finding them IRL?

What shitbox?

An Alfa 156 (not a shitbox) and an old Polo (a shitbox). I just need a new switch for the driver's side windows. The plastic bit that balances the button broke and now I have to jiggle it around to activate the windows and it's a bit annoying. I'd live with it but it seems like such a simple thing to fix that I want to do it just to be able to say I've fixed something in my car. Gotta start small you know.

For the alfa I'm pretty sure there's some enthusiast websites that specialise in alfa parts. For the polo either autodoc or local parts stores.
I personally don't really like using autodoc as they tend to send you whatever the fuck claiming it fits, then they want it back when you say this shit ain't it and demand a refund, all on your postage expenses mind you. Fucking germans.

I've had success with autodoc, ovoko and rockauto (even though the latter sells parts only to cars available on the US market)

Isn't ovoko mostly dismantled parts? Rockauto on the other hand is fucked by taxes and shipping nowadays

if you want new parts just use the cheapest local site
>>
Find the part number and google it.

yes but sometimes it's a better option to buy a dismantled part than a new one
I usually just go to my local auto parts store and order from there but sometimes I can get parts much cheaper online.

What year Polo is it?
If it's within the past 10 years figure out the part number and just go to the dealership and get an OEM part. Volkswagen's parts counter prices aren't that outrageous. Hopefully it isn't NLA.
If it's not available or it's too expensive, a scrap car should have one for cheap.

Friends don't let friends fuck around with Autodoc, the reason why they have some of the shitty inhouse chink brands priced so insanely high is so they can jew you and replace your Brembos and Continentals with their own noname shit as a """free upgrade""".
