Looks aside, what are the downsides?
>>
biggest downside for me is it'd be a pain in the ass to fit a car seat in the back and also i'd get gapped by every other M car on the road including lightly modded M lites.
>>
>>28978290
>same S58 engine as the other M cars
>lighter than all of them (but still a boat somehow)
>>
>3800lbs
It's for poors who can't afford an m4
>>
>>28978340
you think a rwd M2 wouldn't get gapped by any other M car and you're calling me retarded lol
>>
>>28978290
>>28978351
>I get theoretically gapped from 70-90 on my commute even though i would never ever ever test this wahhh
Why are you on this board lol literally no gives a shit. for the difference in base price assuming youre financing anyway you might as well just get a base m4 though.
>>
>>28978356
i've raced M2s for fun and gapped them so it's not theoretical. you might not give a shit about getting gapped but buying a car like that i wouldn't want to which is why i started my post by saying it would be a downside for me. fact is it's the slowest M car you can buy and that's all i said and i'm not sure why that's triggering you so bad.
>>
>>28978278
bmw (un)reliability
>>
>>28978344
>///M cars aren't even lightweight anymore
why would you buy one over a camaro.
>>
>>28978278
I've driven M2 and m3s on track and autocross.
Too heavy
Boost curve is kind of retarded
Steering feels weird
The car has super tiny tires for the weight
Interior screens are ugly
I have a hard time justifying spending that much money for McPherson suspension.
>>
>>28978368
e36 was already 3200lbs
>>
>>28978278
it's fucking huge and fat for an m2, that's the downside
>>

>Weighs two tons despite being the "lighter" option
>giant double-tablet screen
>Camaro headlights
>maccas struts
>spic-designed and spic-built
I don't see too many upsides to this gen 2 Series vs the older gen that actually looked like a BMW, wasn't filled with screens and wasn't horribly overweight. It only looks remotely acceptable in BMW's current lineup as they didn't give it the beaver teeth grill.
>>
>>28978488
its almost like the E30 was the last good bmw
>>
>>28978503
>4 banger
no way
>>
WOAAOWW ITS HEAVY

no shit it's a full interior luxobarge with all creature comforts. the fucking seats alone are probably 200lbs. That's why it has 500hp. I swear this board is peak retard.
>>
>>28978516
Horsepower doesn't mean it'll turn anon.
Weight is the enemy of car dynamics
>>
>>28978553
>Weight is the enemy of car dynamics
unless you're a camaro. in which case, weight seems to have no adverse effects on you.
>>
>>28978553
Skill issue.
GT350R - 3700lbs
AMG GT S - 3700lbs
296 GTB - 3600lbs
Civic Type R - 3200lbs

It's not 1997, chief.
>>
RS5 Coupe (previous gen) - 3900lbs
C8 ZR1 - 3800lbs
>>
>>28978568
I've had ZL1 1LE on track. That 4,000lb+ curb weight absolutely holds it back.

>>28978582
>It's not 1997, chief.
You mean 1987.
everything is pig fat.

.my track car is 2,867lbs 31/71R18 S9M slick tire on all 4 corners.
Can hold 1.61Gs in a high speed corner.
2Gs in a banked low speed corner
Fuck weight and street legal tires
>>
>>28978604
>4,000lb+ curb weight
but it isn't 4,000 lbs. something tells me you didn't have a ZLE 1LE on track.
>>

It was literally designed and built in Mexico. Mexican cars being shitty is kind of overblown IMO but it's not a true German car if you care about that.
>>
>>28978617
it's still designed in germany. mexico doesn't have an entire BMW R&D department.
>>
>>28978620
And the parts are supplied from the US. Honestly, at this point I'd almost rather it was put together in Mexico rather than South Carolina. But, it's definitely an upside that the M4 is produced and assembled in Germany.
>>
>>28978626
they all get shit on by the camaro anyway. I don't know what difference you think any of that makes.
>>
>>28978278
Everyone will (rightly) assume you're a vile piece of shit.
>>
>>28978628
>same weight
>less power
>ugly ass gm with mcdonalds playhouse interior
"shit on"
>>
>>28978620
>it's still designed in germany. mexico doesn't have an entire BMW R&D department.

Nope it was literally designed by BMW Mexico. It was their first in house product. The 2 coupe was originally going to become front drive and go on the Mini platform like the 2 GC and X1 but BMW Mexico argued they could do it cheaper by using extra capacity at the San Luis Potosi plant as plans to build the 5 series there were cancelled due to people buying less sedans. The mules were developed and engineered in Mexico and everything. It specifically did not get the pig disgusting sniffer nose because it tested badly in Mexico. The design and engineering leads were Mexicans. That said, they had to do less than most clean sheet designs as it was developed specifically to use as much from the already production ready G20 platform on purpose.

>>28978626
Engines are shipped from Germany.
>>
>>28978637
This image looks whiter than most of the US. It's joever.
>>
>>28978617
>build M2 in Mexico to make more money selling them in America
>trump slaps you with 30% tariff
As they say. A broken clock is right twice a day.

>>28978636
yes.

They sell enough of these in Latin America for it to be viable. The B48 version is just cheap enough for many plebs to afford while the imported 4 series is too expensive for most in brownlandia. It's a step up for when mid tier people want to jump up from a motor cycle or burger/ricer car
>>
>>28978278
An x drive awd version is coming out. Seems like a cool daily
>>
>>28978278
Fat, unreliable, expensive in every way. It's a good car, almost as good as Supra and C7 Z06, but not quite there due to that list.

>>28978290
Mostly irrelevant, I dunno how the other M cars even survive with the M2 existing other than just as "the most expensive trim for someone who is going to get a sedan".

>>28978394
> steering feel
This too.

>>28978582
Honestly, the GTB feels lighter than the Civic due to the instantaneous (muh electric) motor while boost builds and insane braking + being small. Loved the GTB more than I thought I would, but obviously nowhere near being able to afford it reasonably.
>>
>>28978648
>Car with more power faster on burger tracks with many straights and fast corners
>Loses to germanmobile as soon as there are many corners
Wowwee, it's as if mutt machines go fast in a straight line. What a shocker.
>>
>>28978278
Its the only bmw that actually looks somewhat ok.
>>
>>28979486
what kind of shape do you think that "figure 8" track is? maybe it's a drag strip? idk hard to tell from just the name..
>>
>>28978278
>what are the downsides?
Donald's, slushbix, plastic
>>
>>28978592
M2 C drive weight is 3950 lol. And it has a clutch based AWD and not a real diff like the RS5. The problem is it’s a steel chassis and they didn’t add any lightness. The RS5 has a lot of expensive aluminum. M2 is a cheap and pure markup.
>>
>>28978637
>due to people buying less sedans
Fewer. Fewer sedans.
>>
>>28978290
does any rwd coupe have backseats that are easy to get a car seat in and out of?
>>
>>28979486
pushrods must be way more efficient than OHC if they can make a car 3 seconds faster in a straight line with just a 2 horsepower advantage.
>>
>>28979773
probably not, which is why i'd personally go with a G80 or F90 instead.
>>
>>28979736
Fuck off you pedantic nigger
>>
>>28978648
Always the same retarded meme tracks
>>
comfy gt cruiser without comfy v8 sound.
and as such its just an inferior mustang
>>
>>28980007
why can't germany just build cars that can turn and there would be no such thing as a "meme" track.
>>
basically just steering feel and interior preference. too many controls on a screen and the steering is super numb and uncommunicative. BMW lost their way when they started using EPS
>>
>>28979773
challenger is your best bet, but literally anything with 2 doors is going to be hard to access the back seat
>>
>>28978340
>but still a boat somehow
...but bmw always releases boats.
>>
>>28979486
>Car with more power faster
yeah, bmw lost because the camaro has 2 more hp.
maybe if the bmw driver turnt off the A/C, the BMW wouldn't have been 2 seconds slower on the first care track.
>>
Doesnt bmw grossly understate its 0-60 times. You could probably push this one to sub 3 seconds 0-60 with software tuning only
>>
>>28980484
from my experience their times are roughly accurate if you don't use launch control. they put a limit on the total number of times you can fully engage launch control over the lifetime of the transmissions at 100 i think for most of them so maybe it would count as false advertising if they used those LC numbers. basically the quicker 0-60 using LC is more considered a bonus that can be used 100 times.
>>
>>28980602
Good to know, thanks
