I remember one particular episode they were doing body work on some guys beloved van and they just filled a 2"×8" rust hole with chicken wire and bondo.

That video is horrific.
Dude laid the bondo on the front end like he was applying stucco to a house.
I saw a video of some of the vehicles after a few years of use.
That van was one of them.
It was exactly as you'd expect it to look (if you've ever done body work)- cracks everywhere and giant chunks had fallen out, which of course caused the paint to fail and it was peeling off everywhere like some ginger with a sunburn.
Van was in worse condition than before the show because they didnt kill the rust, they just sealed it away so it could grow unabated and it just ate the van.
Its a total loss.
The car that blew bubbles was in a similar state.

Id like to see somebody dig up one car that actually didnt fall apart after the show.
Just one.

My teacher had her car pimped when I was in highschool. She didn't have a car for a couple months, even though on the show they make it seem like it's done in a couple days. They didn't show up at her house, she knew where to be months in advance and it was filmed at a set house. She had to sign a bunch of papers saying she wouldn't sue no matter how bad they fucked it up. They sat her down and told her the point was to make it ridiculous, that she probably wasn't going to actually like it, but they knew she was using a spare beater car like a lot of other people who got on the show. She also had to keep multiple decals on the car advertising MTV and Pimp My Ride, which they added later. She also wasn't allowed to sell the car for a certain number of years after receiving it.

Basically it was a big sham but we all got to laugh at her fucked up ridiculous car.
