Sure they did buddy, because a RWD Supercharged Jaguar XJ with a classic design, or an AWD 4.4 Yamaha V8 Volvo S80 were terrible, right? Especially compared to the slop they're creating now
>>
Neither of these cars are particularly special.

Nobody wants a V8 in their Volvos. People want a super reliable 4 cylinder engine that requires minimum maintenance and doesn't cause much headache. Whoever greenlit a V8 Volvo has no idea what Volvo is.

The XJR is a very good car and massively underrated. The supercharged 4.2 is a great engine and underneath the retro styling it was a modern platform that handled well while still being comfy. Lacks a bit of firepower compared to something like a CLS55 but it's probably the better car to live with.

An inline five is also acceptable.

Yes IMO the ideal engine to strive for. Reliable, reasonable and still very fun.

>Nobody wants a V8 in their Volvos
Said nobody, the V8 Volvos have gone up in value due to demand

>Whoever greenlit a V8 Volvo has no idea what Volvo is.
Whoever greenlit this garbage has no idea what Volvo is

>Neither of these cars are particularly special.
What do you consider special then?
>>
For me it's an overbuilt rwd 4 cyl that doesn't break down

Find me some replacement valve covers for the jag. I'll wait.

Whomever greenlit magnesiyvalve covers should be shot.

Not difficult to find

I kinda want a v8 in a Volvo. Lazy low end torque beats 4 cyl gruffmonster everyday. Plus with hybrids now you could make it pretty reasonable on fuel.

>particularly special
OP didn't imply such.
In fact, he juxtaposed said v8 vehicles against the current epoch of muh turbo 3, 4 and 6 cylinder garbage that is prevalent today.
>>
>>28983861
And guess who owned Jaguar in 1993?
>>
>>28982892
Both of these companies are chinkshit now. Literally made by chinks with chink materials
>>
>>28983965
First, the XJ-S launched in 1975
Second, I don't have a problem with Ford, I actually quite like the Ford era Volvos. I just don't care for the cars you picked.
>>
>>28983917
I would rather have a turbo 5 cylinder Volvo from the same era over the V8 S80

>Whoever greenlit this garbage has no idea what Volvo is
You just posted the best selling EV in Scandinavia next to Model Y.

Volvo makes its cars in Sweden and Belgium

>b-but some of the components are Made in China
Yeah bitch literally everything we own has shit made in China in it. Welcome to globalization.
>>
>>28984174
literal Stockholm syndrome
>>
>>28984179
They don't make shit in Sweden of Belgium lol. It's all in china.
>>
>>28982892
The fwd i6 volvos are some of the dumbest shit to have ever been made, the s80 would be desirable if it wasn't fwd

The original S80 2.9 T6 was a Volvo product, not Ford, and they were terrible for reliability, with transmission not strong enough.

The P3 S80 6 cylinder models were way more reliable, under Ford.

> the s80 would be desirable if it wasn't fwd
That was a Volvo decision, they decided to make everything FWD before Ford bought them.
