This should result in their entire family lineage being exterminated.
>>28983766>>28983775I am greatly disturbed.
>>28983766You fucking ricers beg for this shit. As long as it's got the LED mood lighting and a tv for your chinkshit cartoon pornos you're a-ok, wrenchlet.
>>28983782Had a bad week?
My Kymco Like 150. Usually on most scooters there is an acess panel under the seat so you can do the valves. Mine has that but kymco said "fuck you, you're also going to have to take off the floorboards too lmao. Have fun with our healthy mix of screws and plastic clips".

>>28983766Any car where you have to fold the cabin air filter to fit it in the receptacle.
>>28983766>the beancountersActually this one isn't a cost cutter unlike your precious screens and piano black plastic. These exist specifically because of modern small offset frontal crash test ratings. They had an issue with the wheel and suspension intruding into the cabin during this test so they had to make the suspension predictably fail when loaded in the longitudinal direction by a crash so the wheel and suspension assembly would move out of the way and not get crushed into the cabin. Watch some small overlap crash test videos and you'll see what I'm talking about.
>>28983794I hit post by mistake, and meant to put this in there. Now THESE are a shit tier automotive engineering decision. In-bellhousing slave cylinders. Slave cylinders that bolt to the bellhousing on the outside and actuate an arm are the objectively superior option because when they fail they take like 30 minutes to replace instead of being a transmission out job.
>>28983791looks like the thing that attacks earth in AD 1999 in Chrono Trigger
>>28983766
>>28983775ford did it even worse in their manuals with the slave cylinder being inside the transmission.which one is gonna fail more often? starter or slave?
>>28983766Lighter unsprung weight. Better ride quality. If you break it, you're doing something wrong.
>>28983766>>inb4 “blame the beancounters, not the engineers!”it is the beancounters fault tho.>engineer: here is a $50 control arm made of lightweight aluminium>kike: $50?? your budget is now $5>engineer: here is your $5 plastic control arm.>kike: $$$$$$$$ in profits>engineer: fml, i was only kidding, no stop!
>>28983844This was never a problem. Materials evolve, and this plastic is a lighter solution that does the job. Increasing the stiffness there will just pass the stress up in the chain, towards the chassis mounts, which are a lot more expensive to fix.
>>28983793>have to take the gas pedal off>still doesn't fit without crushing it

>>28983836No ,rather like Borg cube
The GM 1.4T's plastic integrated PCV system in-manifold is in the top 5 list of worst design decisions ever made. With all of the other garbage design points in that shit engine, the unit as a whole is easily top 3 worst.I don't think I've seen a 1.4T equipped car that hasn't developed the crank leak, the guide problem, the cover problem, or the PCV problem.Should have been a class action lawsuit.I'd rather have a pentastar with bad lifters/rockers slowly chewing the cams to death. At least that engine will still go >150k miles without, or until, problems.
Who saw this interior and decided - "This is what a Mercedes interior should look like" ?
>>28983973Probably the same family or demographic that saw the military G wagen in the 70s and asked Mercedes to Posh it up.
>philips head bolts holding on the valve cover
>>28983766Mercedes-Benz used biodegradable wiring harnesses from 1991 to 1996, which caused electrical problems over time as the insulation disintegrated. What kind of ******* could even think this was a good idea?
>>28983796Even an external slave meane you have an internal bearing anon.If it fails you'll have to drop the transmission regardless.I've also never had a GM style in bellhousing slave fail.
>>289840547M?
It's really not an issue to drop a rwd trans to do a starter or slave cylinder (which isn't just slave cylinder, it's the bearing, slave, fork, all in one unit) The clutch kits come with the new slave assembly.Honestly if it's only once every 180k miles dropping a fwd one isn't that bad either, especially on most jap cars. It's a big job, but it's also once every 10-15 years so idk
>>28984177checkedand using OEM slaves as opposed to aftermarket units such as McLeoad for the Mustang can keep you from doing the same job twice in one year.
>>28983901>I i thought the mazda 3 filter was a bitchI honestly didn't find it all that bad. It's definitely a puzzle that didn't need to happen, but it's not a difficult job.Now cabin air filters that are in the windshield cowl are the stuff of 'I will never, ever replace this thing' level of annoying.
Keep It Simple, Stupid (KISS). A mantra of good engineering.>>289841772 cars ago I went through 3 clutch slave cylinders in probably 60k miles. Really common failure on NA/NB miatas, but it's just a $60 part and is relatively easy to access. You shouldn't have to drop a transmission or engine to swap something small, that's absurd.>>28983964>The GM 1.4T's plastic integrated PCV system in-manifoldThat was interesting to google. That's fucked-up man. I changed my PCV valve last month it was like $4 and took less than 30 seconds.
>>28984235"to swap something small"a clutch slave assembly isn't small. the fact that you had to change 3 in a single year is fucking absurd. I've changed one in 150k miles. But again, rwd manual trans drop is literally a nothing burger.
>>28984261>3 in a single yearI rarely drive more than 15k miles a year, probably less than 10, and I had another car at the time. It was like 3 slave cylinders over a decade. And you're right, dropping RWD manual is easier than anything else.
>>28984261>a clutch slave assembly isn't small. It is, though? Physically, in size. It's "big" in that you have to deal with getting the clutch fluid back in with no bubbles I guess.
>>28984267Oh I read wrong. That's still crazy that you had to do it that many times in that few miles.
>>28984272Lol yes it's small in size, but not small in the sense of being a maintenance item. A valve stem seal is small in size, but it's a big pain in your ass to change them.A starter or slave assembly you should only need to change once in probably your entire ownership of most cars. In my ford the starter is 14 years old. Rest of the car will probably fall apart before I need to change it.
>>28983889>i have no argument face
>>28984066Look up the chevy 3.6L timing chain (as on the Traverse). And they have a very high replacement rate because:>long factory oil change interval leads to oil breakdown >low flow oil pump for fuel efficiency >undersized oil squirter nozzle for the timing chain doesn't deliver enough oil at idle

>>28984542Unfortunately this doesn't work well with cars. Used cars the sale was already made and new cars unless you are part of the engineering team there are probably surprises for you even if it you're buying one that isn't a refresh year.Unless you mean not buying makes that do this shit which also doesn't work since they all do it.

>>28983844I had to replace the slave cylinder in a B3000 5 times over 12 years. Left me stranded every time because when it went, it went quick. The engineer behind the seat frames deserves a flogging too.

>>28983766A few years back Subaru decided it would be a great idea to take a powertrain intended for mid sized sedans and drop it into a big 8 seater with a 5000 lb tow rating. Far as I know the only significant change they made was adding a CVT fluid cooler. Needless to say '19 Ascents are notorious for CVT failure, and I've heard newer ones still aren't great.

>>28984578Believe it or not, many different Chrysler/Dodge shitpiles had this "feature", some INTO THE 2010S. It's incredible, really.
>>28984597Yes im aware. Even into the 2020sThe new charger STILL has this featureWhat is amazing is how retarded they all are
>>28984177Whats the purpose of it? Why defend this.
>>28984222is Mcleod not good?
>>28984688Their clutches are good, but the internal slaves are not. The o ring seal inside the slave ends up leaking after only so long. OEM or Tilton are the only real good options, and I'd go with Tilton over OEM just because of the seal design on their internal slaves. I was going to go that route before just saying fuck it and sticking with a cable clutch.
>>28983766>I’ll start with plastic control arms.I was thinking the thread title was a great exageration but omfg yes who ever made that call deserve death.

>>28983973Women. They ruin everything.
>>28983775Its easy to remove a tranny and have access to the started. In any other car you have to dig deeper and remove way more.
>>28983792I really dont see a problem here. Remove wheel, lining and its there.
>>28984135someone who wanted you to buy a new one every couple of years
>>28986378>Its easy to remove a tranny and have access to the started. In any other car you have to dig deeper and remove way more. You're a fucking retard. In most cars you don't have to remove anything but maybe a heat shield to get a starter out, it might not be piss easy but it isn't hard. Removing a transmission from a RWD car almost always involves>remove exhaust (pain in the dick because the nuts rust up)>remove heat shields>remove driveshaft>transmission cooler lines if failmatic>shifter linkage>one or more pain in the ass to access bellhousing bolts up topAll that to get to a fucking starter is ridiculous. If you don't have a lift that's a nightmare, removing a heavy ass slushbox is always a pain in the ass when you have to do it from under the car.
>>28987184>remove exhaust (pain in the dick because the nuts rust up)copper plated nuts are underrated
I've literally never had to replace a starter in any car I've ever owned. Even both of my 70s bmws had the original starter, lol. I'm fuckin based.
>>28987196By the time the starter goes bad in most cars the plating on the nuts, if there was any, seems to be gone. Unless it's from an arid climate of course
