If you can't function with X amount of oil as things currently stand and you can only get X amount of oil from Russia, the US, or the Middle East, then beyond the price being negotiated, those sources may impose additional terms upon you. It also sends your currency outside of your law (territory) and the new holder of that currency may not be interested in simply using it to buy a reciprocal amount of your exports. They may prefer to simply buy up large portions of your countries instead.So the question is not whether Europeans make good internal combustion engines, it's whether that fact outweighs the other factors.
