When the fuck are we getting flying cars? This would be amazing that we can all take to the skies and live like it's the future.

Would you really want every Karen/melanin positive individual to be able to move in 3 dimensions if they can barely move in 2 dimensions?

we've had them for like 80 years
>>
>>28986593
Damn, I hope not, people can barely handle two dimensions of operating a vehicle, and sometimes they can't even handle one if they ride the bus or subway. The masses can't handle a third dimension of control.

>>28986599
And they have the reputation to match. I love to see some rich prick that thinks he's hot shit and get his skull chopped in half by a tail rotor.
>>
Notice he's sitting in traffic. We would get the most cucked version of flying cars imaginable.
>either no control or limited like a Disneyland ride
>RETARD alarm never turns off when I sit in it

Workin on getting my PPL as we speak anon. You should do it too.
>>
Too easy to use as a weapon. The sky needs to be gatekept.
>>
>>28986824
Lots of things can be weapons and don't require any special gatekeeping. Such as, you know, actual weapons. Mostly flying just requires some skill to not accidentally become an hero. And there is enough GA going on these days that the big sky little airplane theory doesn't really hold up anymore so there are other people relying on you to have a certain level of competence too.
>>
>>28986595
yes i think it would be very funny

My parents were both pilots. My grandfather was a pilot. My brother has a plane. My sister's ex has a seaplane that I've flown. Yes, it requires competence, I get it.
But, it'd be really easy to load one up with fuel or charged lithium batteries, aim it at something, and parachute out. I think it could do a lot more damage than guns or pipe bombs. I don't want mini-9/11s happening every week.
Did you see where some ag drones got stolen a month or two ago? That scared the shit out of me, thankfully they were recovered.
Personally, while flying is beautiful, I find it somewhat boring compared to cars where you can slide inches away from trees and have the relative reference of other things around you. In a plane, you go faster and eventually things get quiet but you don't really feel the speed unless you're in like an F-15 or something.

Get your tailwheel endorsement and fly some aerobatics.
>>
>>28986929
That does sound more up my alley. I love stunts.
I've always been around military pilots and they just looooove talking trash about everyone else. "Those queer navs [navigators] have no idea what it takes to blah blah." I've had dinner with an SR-71 pilot, I've had lunch with a former commanding officer of the Blue Angels. I met Kharzai on a US base ramp. I lived right by the flightline a lot of my life. It might be interesting to some people to hear about idk.
I guess it's not as exciting when it's just what you've been around forever. I remember being in high school and I wanted, so badly, to not live on a military base anymore.

TL;DR - We have them. They are expensive because government.

Aircraft mechanic here. That WAS the idea, post WW2. Look up something called "Airparks". (picrel) Essentially you had 2 garages, a normal car garage and an airplane hangar. The issue is government overreach. (Lets ignore the arguements that >>28986606 this anon does a good job of explaining for now) Aircraft are so ungodly expensive because every little detail is micromanaged by the FAA. Every. Little. Thing. This makes costs rise. You can buy a decent starter aircraft for $50k. You now also have the cost of maintaining it, which can add big bucks on top of that. You also need your pilots license, which is FAR more difficult to get (rightfully so, I think). Airpark homes are very expensive. All in all, the IDEA is solid, and was put into practice. The issue is, as always, MONEY AND GOVERNMENTS KILL FUN.

>>28986828
This is true. >>28987035 Samefag. It is crazy the shit I have to fix because (seriously) they still midair collide. Low wing doesn't see high wing, so lands right on top of it. You know what the 2 most common reasons I get calls for prop strikes are? Driving into a hangar (how often do you hear of cars hitting buildings?) and fucking FORGETTING to put their landing gear up. Big Sky Little Plane is true for the most part, but once you get close to airports - even small municipal ones - people get real fuckin dumb real fuckin fast.
>>
>>28986824
that's why we need jetpacks instead of flying cars
>>

>get his skull chopped in half by a tail rotor.
i remember a liveleak cctv footage of a guy walking towards a chopper but he didn't duck under the main blades, you just hear a buzz and see a puff of dust and he just instantly collapsss. forgot if you could see a part of his scalp also dropping to the floor or not
>>
>>28986816
Why are the blades at kneecapping height instead of being overhead?

Not happening without contragravity and even then it'll be a robotaxi thing like >>28986816 pointed out.
>>
>>28987047
Lol I would personally never taxi into a hangar but that may be partially because I fly school planes that have to be tetrised in tightly and in a specific order. It's not like they are heavy to push or something anyway. There are still gouges in the hangar walls where some idiot obviously crashed into it even pushing by hand though lmao.
