>have to go live in the US to work for five years by next year>research cars that can hold best value so I can sell before traveling back>my best options are a Toyota Camry HEV or RAV4 PHEVanything else is a big loss, there’s literally no good sedan or sport coupe like my current car other than junk that drops 80% of its value. … am I committing a sin by buying a hybrid?
Preferably you'd stay where you are. But we really dgaf what you buy as long as you gtfo on time and back to your home shithole. kthx
5 years is a decent amount of time, why not get something you want?
>>28986633This. 5 years is a long time to be stuck mad at yourself
>>28986628Buy a $3000-$5000 car off Facebook/craigslist. It'll still be worth at least a few grand in 5 years time.
>>28986633because idk, I can maybe get a Volvo sedan (my car is a 2019 audi s5 sportback), but I don’t care about value in my home country because I intended to keep it for a very long time, and I bought it before I got married and now I have kids on the way.>>28986636what should I do then? leasing is out of the question, financing is better for how long I’ll stay in the us.>>28986637that’s all new to me, I never thought I’d ever get to experience American consumerism and marketplaces… I’ll consider it.
>>28986640When you get here rent a cheap car using Turo. You can rent for a week for only a few hundred bucks. Use the rental to check out cheap sub $5k cars.
>>28986640>what should I do then? leasing is out of the question, financing is better for how long I’ll stay in the us.Something you cant easily get in euroland and somthing that seems interesting to you but not tooo special for the US either. So wrangler, stang/charger/camaro, truggg, etc.
ugh fuck, i just realized I’ll be dealing in burger units… ill be filling in gallons, driving in miles, weightlifting in pounds, running in yards… that’s so fucking cringe
>>28986628I planning to go back to the US for a couple of years sometime in the next few years (want to use up some tax credits). My plan is to buy a 25+ year old classic that wasn't available in the US, ship it over, drive it, and sell it for a profit when I leave.
>>28986652Not being able to use either standard on a whim is cringe.
>>28986652Really not that bad for gallon or miles. You can stick to kg and m. The one that's really messed up is fahrenheit.
>>28986628Cars in America are insanely cheap. Just get a used EV. Zero maintenance, they've already dropped 80% of their value after four years. Can't go much lower and you get to enjoy free driving.
>>28986662EVs are a serious commitment and I doubt I’ll get any ev that cheap that’s not a Tesla… but you’re right about the prices, I found a 2024 PHEV Volvo s90 that is a very good value just after 5 minutes of searching.
what sin is camry hybrid?
>>28986628>do some job that means you have to go and live in the USA for a fixed length of timeThere’s absolutely no way they aren’t chucking in a car allowance or a company car for this. Literally pick something off a list. The idea that you’d be in this situation and have to go buy something with a thought to it’s value in five years is insane
>>28986717I won’t get a company car, but I’ll get an allowance that’s not very flexible, so I can’t exactly get whatever car I want if I desire it to be new. Fuel/electricity expenditure will be entirely on me as well since it’s technically included as part of my salary, so I’d rather not get something that burns petrol like there’s no tomorrow.
>>28986730Then lease or long term hire with the allowance. You are not going to get a good rate with a US lender if you are a recent arrival to the US, the cost of the interest alone will not make a HP agreement worth pursuing. If your company is large then it will have some sort of employee car leasing programme (most do) so look into thatIf you absolutely must have a car paid for in cash then sell all your shit in your home country and fund it with that, as you’d probably want to replace all that stuff anyway when you return in five years. Clothes, appliances, phone, console, computer, cars, whatever
>>28986683>EVs are a serious commitment and I doubt I’ll get any ev that cheap that’s not a Tesla…There are several models that were mass recalled for battery issues. And which one you might want to consider depends on your expected range needs per day.Nissan Leafs are relatively cheap, but have piss poor range for their price.2017 to 2020 Chevy Bolt's are commonly factory refurbished with new batteries and go for $7k to $11k depending on market, trim, and mileage. The refurbed ones have a sticker on the windshield and you can input the VIN on Chevy's website to see when the battery was replaced. Only the Premier trim has fast charging though, so the lower trims are only usable when charging at home.
>>28986745those cars are still total disasters
>>28986628Buy a clean GMT800 Duramax. Spend $20k on one now and sell it for $40k in 5 years. ???? Profit???
>>28986628whatever you go with, just make sure you buy it on craigslist/ebay/facebook marketplace and lowball the seller a bit, i'm dead serious. You might get ghosted once or twice but its worth it for a nice cheap ride.
>>28986745Go away, EV shill.
>>28986628Buy a civic.
>>28986628You're not buying new are you? You're going to get fucked on depreciation on anything new even a Toyota. Buy a 5 year old or older used car.
just a buy a shitbox retard. this nigga going online to find advice for a literal non-problem.
>>28986660
gallons to liters? multiply by 4miles to km? double the miles and subtract about quarter of thatf to c? subtract 30 and divide by 2that easily gets you within 2-7% of the actual value for any range of measurement used in regular life.we already use mm and cm and a meter is just a yard. add 300 extra ft every km. hmm 1500 meters what the heck is that beep boop beep boop 4950 feet.isnt that fun
Buy a 2024 used Polestar 2. Dirt cheap in the US, extremely reliable and cheap to own. Also has similar attributes as your Audi S5. And as close to a Volvo sedan you'll get that isn't old as shit.Don't buy a complete shitbox, five years is a LONG time.
>>28988609>miles to km? double the miles and subtract about quarter of thatI prefer working with 3/5ths, 30mph/50kph, 60mph/100kph and 70mph/120kph are way more common on the road
>>28986628Don't give a shit about the money value of something you wont have ten years from now and enjoy something different and American.I kean you like cars too right.Grab a focus st or ss camaro or something. Hell even one of the new i6 chargers. Love it and hate it, compare it to the good euro cars you like, have an experience.Just dont get a slow car. You wont like being in a slow car in USA.
>>28988727Yep because the km/mile conversion rate is roughly 62% you can just 3/5ths it and be close enough unless we're taking about orbital distances. Quite simple really.
>>28986628You view cars like a normie npc. Why are you here?
>>28988585reddit filename
>>28987506This or some goyotaSad to see this OP could be getting fun cars instead of some sterile global EV
>>28986628Depending on country, you could buy an American car that is unavailable back home and then take it home with you to sell for a shitload of money. People in my country typically bring back stuff like Lincolns that they then sell for way more than it would go for in the US.
>>28988585Weird nonsensical cope
>>28988723don’t know about polestar, but I just realized both Audi and BMW, even Volvo, got leasing programs for L-1 visa holders. I think there are also 3rd party companies that let L-1 visa holders lease whatever car they want if the manufacturer doesn’t have a dedicated program
