I am looking for a smaller truck for doing simple household tasks and whatnot. I work remotely so I don't even need to commute. Honestly I wanted a Japanese truck (or even a Ridgeline) but at around the $20,000 budget these things seem like much better deals.

What's the catch?

Just get a sedan or something. I can fit 25 bags of mulch in the back of my A6. If you’re just going to Home Depot every once in awhile, you really don’t need a truck.
>>
>>28986736
It's true that a sedan would work 99% of the time for me. The other 1% I would have to rent a truck and that would be annoying.
>>
>>28986732
just get a frontier, or a ridgeline if you would never load it heavier than a couch. fuck buying american turbo trucks. don't buy a turbo 4 truck
>>
>>28986743
Ok man, if you think you’ll be installing new outdoor playsets for your kids every month, then get that track. Otherwise, just buy something more sensible. My guess is that you’ll actually need that truck a grand total of twice over the course of your ownership.

My dads Tacoma couldnt break 50 with a couch in it

Yeah I wasn't ever considering a turbo engine. But GM did make them with the 3.6L v6

Its 10x the price of a $2000 10th gen F150 or GMT800 with 200k miles. Both trucks regularly make it to 300k+. You could spend $2k for something the same size but with a 6.5 bed and a higher payload to use to work around the house and then sell it for what you paid for it years down the road.
>>
>>28986732
> $20k budget
lol you could literally get a gently used silverado or f150.with a v8. look for a 2015-2017 f150 with the 5.0 which will be at the top of your budget, or a low mileage gmt800 silverado/sierra v8 which you can get way under your budget if you just want a basic yet capable truck. regular cabs aren't that big by todays standards, easier to work on too when it comes to shit like fuel system. the gmt800 is dummy simple, and the gen 2 coyote in the 2015-2017 f150 is the best version without dumb cylinder deactivation or plastic oil pan or spray in bore liners. the old tiny jap trucks of the past are slow, wimpy, and horridly overpriced. they abrely do highway speeds safely with a bed full of lumber.

Get a low mileage 1st gen Ridgeline, then stash the savings for maintenance and a year of BBQ.
>>
>>28987252
More like stash your savings for a new tranny. I'd trust a 4LSlippy over one of these pieces of shit.
>>
>>28987252
I would drive the fuck out of one of those if they weren't autotragic only. I dont trust that tranny in minvan let alone a minivan based truck. Should have come with a proper gear box.
>>
>>28987279
>Should have come with a proper gear box.
I agree 100%.
I would grab one as well.
Supposedly the 2011+ 1st gens are more reliable, and they do have robust coolers.
>>
>>28987252
I just hate the way those first gens look.

Yeah, it would be better as
a 2-door
longer bed
omit the sloping bed panels

The Colorado is too big. It's made from the same platform as the full size Silverado, unlike the Ranger vs F150, and it just isn't small enough to fit into daily life for most Americans who don't want a full sized pickup. The off road equipment seems nice, the engine seems meh, too bad you can't get the off road equipment in something less giant truck.
>>
>>28987631
the ranger isn't small either unless you're talking the older ranger. those older rangers are very weak when it comes to payload/towing anything over 500lbs, and that's considering you even get the v6. the rear end still sags. they are good for throwing a few 2x4s in the bed and that's nearly it. there is a reason they went away from that. OP needs to just get a half-ton with a v8 and if he gets a regular cab it will be much smaller.

1st gen tundra
>>
>>28987650
These are stupid expensive in my area.
>>
>>28987879
they're stupid expensive in general. all toyotas are. all toyota trucks are. most trucks are. because tards believe the "toyota trucks don't need maintenance" meme. then when they buy a 200k mile truck that the previous owner never did a single thing to, they are left with the backlog of maintenance that will finally rear it's ugly head by way of death by a thousand paper cuts.
>>
>>28987887
Yeah. Toyota people literally think it's okay to change their oil every 10k miles. High mileage toyotas kinda scare me.
>>
>>28987890
toyota has been recommending that since like 2005. they will look at you like you're crazzy if you take your toyota in for 5k oil changes like you should. you basically have to force them to and pay out of pocket for the 5k change if you want that in between their 10k ones they offer on new cars. even IF oil kept it's integrity for 10k miles and you had the world's greatest oil filter, every engine burns some degree of oil by 10k miles. older high mileage vehicles can regularly burn up to a quart of oil even before 5k.
>>
>>28986746
I've seen a lot of people going to that 2.7 Turbo Ranger. Is it really bad tho?
>>
>>28986746
What about the Duramax turbo diesel?

Are you really suggesting a sedan and a trailer as a replacement for a pickup?
>>
>>28988883
yes. OP said 99% of the time he does not need a pickup. I’m sure a trailer will do just fine for the remaining 1%

Just rent a trailer
>>
Get one of these, it's not a pickup 99% of the time.
And it's a Japanese design from Isuzu.

Holy hell that's ugly
