Are they as bad as ppl say? Anyone owned one here? Online commentary is bordering on hysterical.

They are known lemons. I don't even know anything about them and I know that, so it can't be a good sign. To be honest they're all dogshit.
>>
>>28987431
Yeah sux bc they still have that kinda stately look about them before they went all in with the nigga grills and the 22 inch rimz, but whatever I guess
>>
Put it this way, if you have to ask, you can't afford it
>>
it’s effectively a hand built car around simple mechanicals. If you’re mechanically inclined and can do stuff yourself then get one. They’re better made than the predecessor and most of the ones that came after it
>hurr they’re UNRELIABLE
If it’s still on the road today and runs and drives by very definition it isn’t “unreliable”
>has anyone had one
Yes. Get a late V8. Worry about condition and maintenance more than mileage. If you absolutely must have an old, out of date full size SUV then it’s either that or a GMT400

>Are they as bad as ppl say?
No. The 2.5 Diesel Manual is extremely reliable. It's not my fault the Burgers got the gimped models

>Indestructible Indirect Injection 2.5 BMW M51 Diesel
>5 Speed ZF Manual
>Air suspension parts are very cheap, compared to any other car with air suspension.

>Genuine Land Rover Air struts are available from around $750 each, and a new Genuine Land Rover Air compressor is around $800, compared to $3000 for anything german
>>

Servicing Land Rovers and nominally British cars is expensive because the parts are rare and overpriced. For that reason I’d stay away unless you need a true 4x4 for running a Safari. If you’re not rich stay away.

Yeah I can't wait to buy what is essentially a 90's 7 series bmw seems like a solid and reliable option

Every time I hear P38 it reminds me how the Leyland P76 had P38 as it's nickname. "Only half a car". Had a 4.0 liter version of the Rover V8.
>>
>>28987687
>Air suspension parts are very cheap
Design of air suspension is all wrong on P38, when it's lowered it's soft when it's high it's stiff, exactly the opposite of how it should be and that was done because people where complaining it didn't feel rugged enough offloading and was not comfy on highway.
15 years ago you could get proper air struts from US that would fix that but I doubt those are still available.
Only v8 is on air tho, diesel and 4.0 are on coils.

I share this sentiment. The last utilitarian design before gays took office

As a thirdie. My 1994 defender is about the same cost as my 2003 ram was on parts on average
Except certain parts are crazy cheap like side mirrors, lights, glass etc. However i can get significantly more new parts for the defender than i could my ram.

I noticed this also with a disco 1. Odd
>>
>>28989751
Maybe it's the british leyland partsbin heritage at work

>Yeah I can't wait to buy what is essentially a 90's 7 series bmw seems like a solid and reliable option
A 90s 7 series is reliable, not the V8 models but the Diesel models will easily do 250,000 miles without any real engine work
>>
>>28989987
a fucking ford festiva can go 250,000 miles and im not talking about the engine im talking about the air suspension and the 5 million electronics and sensors for retarded luxury shit

>seats dont work
>suspension sags
>windows dont go up
>20 BCM and engine codes
but at least my diesel engine doesnt knock W
>>
>>28989993
>seats dont work
Not hard to fix

>suspension sags
Not hard to fix. Also, how many shocks and springs would you go through in 250,000 miles? It works out pretty much the same in cost long term

>windows don't go up
Not hard to fix, just change a window regulator wrenchlet

>20 BCM and engine codes
Not hard to fix
>>
>>28989994
Oh I'm arguing with a contrarian dumbass. I mean I already knew that I guess.
>>
>>28989999
>Oh I'm arguing with a contrarian
Sure you are, what exactly is contrarian about asking someone to stop being a wrenchlet and know their vehicle?
>>
>>28987687
>Burgers got the gimped models
Lol, what?!
Youre calling the aluminum block Rover/Buick V8 the "gimped" version?
Hahahahhahahahahahaha
Euros are absolutely mindbroken when it comes to diesel vs gasoline.
>>
>>28990166
I'm sorry we're not stupid enough to run our trucks off gasoline.
>>
>>28990457
Youre just stupid in general.
>>

The 1976-1978 Mustang II.
Absolute peak malaise era 302 shitbox.
Was 140 hp/250 lb/ft.
P38 comes in 50% heavier.
With 15% less torque.

The 4.0L Rover/Buick produced 190 hp and 236 lb⋅ft
The 4.6L Rover/Buick output was 225 hp and 280 lb⋅ft.

This Range Rover is the epitome of Euro vs 'Merica mentality.
Europoors sacrifice performance for efficiency.
Americans sacrifice efficiency for performance.
