I ended up buying a GEM E4 for just under 8 grand with 2k miles, full doors and all, street legal and registered.
Unfortunately after a long time of owning cars, work damaged my spine and with what control I have in the legs left, this is what I can drive without going to hand controls.
I am not happy at all having owned a 90 civic tuned up, and an 84 Chevy half ton, a 02 stacked mustang... a number of fun cars over the years.
So how do I make the best of this pile of shit (which is mechanically I have to say fucking beautiful)?
Solar panel roof? Rims or something? I want to make it the best piece of shit golf cart car I can and I guess I do have a lot to work with. Per NY though you can't add a lift kit and change the over all geometry I *think*. I had to affirm I hadn't significantly modified the operation.

what the absolute fuck am I ogling at

There are flexible solar panels with 410 watts now.
If you wanna goof all out slap one or two on this and see if it would move powered by those. Would be fucking hilarious

820w would be around 1.1 hp
Should be plenty to move this shit albeit slowly

remove backseat, plastic cladding and other useless shit, install MTB wheels.
Shit will be FLYING to the sun. GO FULL DAEDALUS

Why wouldn't you go to hand controls like a real disabled person and drive a real car?
>>
>>28987682
Because if I need them, it's a plug in part. For now I don't, I just can't fine control ankles- this doesn't need that.
I got a 200w one panel kit, just so I don't get stranded. $300 at harbor freight with discounts, $415 I think before.

I'm with this guy I think. I have what I have, might as well lean into it. Eventually I'll move up to full tilt on demand solar but the charger/bank and the current batteries are ok for now.

I obviously didn't love this move but for $8k do you think you'll find a car that will last 5 years without one major bill? Cheap Li battery banks run $1k to $1200, can you replace your entire engine for that price without lifting more than a few pounds with an overhead winch?

You got fucking fleeced. I got 2 flexible 430w panels for 190 euros a pop. But maybe they're just more expensive in your location for whatever reason. Also they are fucking humongous and probably only one would fit on your vehicle roof

Two, sideways on a mount but I'm not running them driving around lol. There is a secure (to an extent) charge outlet inside the cabin that seems to be a factory mod. I can charge the "generator" and plug into it.
Your kit or parts probably doesn't have all the patented protection shit all over it and overmoulded shock case for the panel. so your normal panels are roughly pro rated to $85 for the capacity I bought without the cell phone armor case @ $100 USD (approx).

Ah yeah that makes a lot more sense. I meant purely the panels, no additional electronics. Good luck with your project btw. Sounds like silly good fun

Since it's an emergency thing I figured it needs to be tough. I can actually add bullshit panels now in unlimited daisy chain though.
