The truck and van frames are pretty different which is why it's not easy to do a 4x4 conversion on an Express. Vans are pretty clapped out by the time they are sold so you would be building on a worn out RWD only platform. All in all pretty pointless when there are millions of decently solid truck frames out there with rotten bodies.

Yeah, it would be best to use the van as a donor for a truck chassis. Which depending on the model year:

1996–2002 is the GMT400 derived GMT600 platform

2003–present is the GMT800 derived GMT610 platform

I was talking about taking power train and suspension components from a van chassis and putting them on to a truck chassis.

And there are entire companies that make stuff for swapping early model bodies on late model chassis for that, pic related:
