Welcome to 4chan's Offroad General! On July 4th, 2026, we mark 250 years of American freedom. Conquering untamed trails in 4x4s is our manifest destiny. Just like Lewis and Clark, we conquer the unknown, tackling the most unforgiving terrain that our beautiful country has to offer. Other countries will never have the trails and trucks that Americans are blessed with. Give me liberty, or give me death. Previous thread: >>28936348

Just copped this PA Challenger for 2K AUD from an 85 year old pensioner. It’s completely stock and all it needs is a couple of windscreen chips repaired and it’s ready to roll. Pretty chuffed. Gonna give it a good service and do some light mods to turn it into a camping rig. It’s honestly easy to forget these existed, although I still see them getting around here and there. Everyone’s insistence that nothing but land croozer will do makes them good deals.

I drove offroad today, tested out my new shocks and no front sway bar, which I liked. Paint's cured though, so it's going back on tomorrow, it's my dd. Some dang farmer grazes his cows out there though, so I had to wash fresh cow shit out of my wheel wells.
i have this dana 35 that ate a pinion bearing, i took it apart and its been rebuilt before - just 143k miles mind you - i get new national bearings, have midas press the inner on the pinion, throw the races in the freezer, they go right in the housing, i slap it together with the old crush sleeve just to make sure its shimmed right and it's notchy, i took it apart multiple times now and oiled it up, the pinion feels like absolute shit. just the pinion, carrier isnt installed, i havent tested mesh or anything. whats wrong with it? are these brand new bearings shit?
>>28990334whats going on in South NJ?
>>29007805rednecks
>>29006726Rare for new bearings to be bad out of the box. Happens but not often. If this is rebuild #2 (or more) after 143k then something is eating bearings. I have 160k on my 35 and it spins like glass. My guess would be the pinion shaft is no longer true and the bearing is out-of-round after being pressed on, causing a pinch point.Housing could be damaged but thats even more rare and takes some serious force but the pinion shaft could be distorted just from driveshaft torque over time. If people can snap the pinion shaft then it can be twisted too.Pull it out and put the old race on it on the bench and see how it feels. But since its apart id just bite the bullet and order a new ring&pinion and bearings kit and be done.

I finally finished all the post-rally servicing on my Suzuki Swift 4x4 this week. She also got a new set of 14" alloys (replacing the beat-to-shit 15" steelies) with commercial van tires rated for 690 kg. Considering the car is less than 1200 kg fully loaded, I figure they should hold up pretty well. I just got back from a short two hour tour of some small trails near my town. It was awesome. I missed driving on sand so much. Probably going to hit up some sand dunes next weekend, and then catch the tail-end of the Budapest-Bamako summer event the week after.>>29003963Howdy!>>29005576Mild lift, bash plate, tires with more sidewall. >>29008627Ax15 ain’t garbage it’s made by Toyota and it holds up to LS level power, I use em in swaps, anything that needs a manual I throw the ax15 in, it’s tough and cheap and easy to acquire, same transmission used in turbo supras, Toyota pickups with the V6s etc, far superior to the W series and also lots of various adapter plates are available for them, ive bought 2 of the external slave conversion kits for em, those kits are like 6 or 700 bucks, along with various adapter plates which are like 1200 bucks, it’s worth it to spend money on projects and hoard the critical components for future projects

>>29011515>That 1" spacer is literally to align the transmission with the fucking hole in the floor to match the stock shifter location so you dont have to cut any sheetmetal. That's not true at all, it completely converts the bolt pattern of the bell housing where it attaches to the ax15, the chevy attaches to the transmission with 4 bolts, I circled those in red, the ax15 has 9 bolts, the Novak adapter converts the 4 bolt pattern of the 90 degree bolt pattern sbc bell housing to the 9 bolt pattern of the AX15 transmission, you've been entirely wrong about everything since the very beginning of this conversation
