If rust has always plagued Toyota trucks, why do people continue buying them? Seems like the old ones were rusting away 5 years after you bought them too.
>>
>>28990479
Sounds like you know fuck all about the properties of rust or how it works. Dumb ass making a dumbass thread

Also, you can just commission an entire frame or bed and still be cheaper than a modern truck while being X times more reliable
>>
it's a cult. don't get me wrong, toyotas were/still better engineered than most others but people use it as an excuse to never maintain or even look after their vehicle. an excuse to abuse, basically
buying a used tacoma is probably the worst vehicle buying experience you'll ever have. they will ignore major issues and rebuff with "it's a toyota, either take it or leave it, they're unkillable/the taliban uses them blah blah blah"
>>
>>28990502
This. It's a normie cult. really bad, midwit normie cult. They respond to super aggressive shilling, such as seemingly passive shitposts on popular forums

Found tweedle dee and tweedle dumb

You 2 belong with each other. A cute pair of contrarian suckers
>>

>check these guys out theyre not even part of our cult
>>
>>28990479
Anon some people live places vehicles don't rust.
For everyone else they don't buy them because they all rusted away. Or they pay out the ass to have one brought in.
>>
>>28990479
>I heard from a family member they were good and reliable
>I heard from some guy on youtube that they were good and reliable
>I saw on this old show they tried to destroy one and they couldn't so they must be reliable
To be fair, things like Jeep Wranglers rust even worse, are known to be far more unreliable, yet those have an equally cult-like following. Strange, that.
>>28990523
The only suckers are those still falling for the goyota meme in the current year. Sure, the old ones are good. Just not $15k for a 30 year old truck with 300k miles and a rusty frame good.
>>
>>28990479
The old Tundras with the 5.7 are amazing trucks that generally last a really long time. The 5.7 wasn't the fastest or most powerful engine in the half ton category but they were long lived engines. Unfortunately Toyota now arguably has the worst half ton truck on the market, its sad to see honestly. Their new engine (that they just straight up tried to copy from Ford) has been a colossal failure and has massive reliability issues. I would buy any other brand before touching a modern Toyota truck.
>>
>>28990479
I once saw a trailer of RAM trucks being delivered that already had surface rust on thrm

Sounds like you know fuck all about the properties of steel alloys or how rust affects every type of alloy differently.
>>
>>28990479
Because you can still drive a rusty truck, but you can't drive a truck with blown powertrain.

Times are changing, though. Modern Toyota engines are junk.
>>
>>28990523
kek they're pieces of shit dude, saying this as a person who owns 4, there's nothing special about them, they're entirely mid, the only way to make them good is replace everything with something else
>>

>>
>>28990479
That was the 90s. Since 2000 we have spent the last 20+ years watching Ford, GM and Ram trucks rot while the Toyota always look clean.

Since 2000 its American cars that euat and the Japanese ones that don't. All your taurus, impala, equinox, edge, jeep, crap is full of rust holes while the civics, accords, cameys and prius are all normal looking. You'd know this if you weren't some sort of brown creature living in one of my countries desert states like Texas
>>
>>28991170
The whole point is them not being special. That's why it's special. Trucks of that era are the perfect work vehicle. That's why you have 4 of them you dumb bitch.

With keys, some 2x4s and some self tappers you can fix it.

They all suck cock compared to my jeeps and dodges, my 85 solid axle got worse fuel economy than my 6bt dodge, while not being able to tow anything, 14mpg in the tiny ass Toyota 20+ mpg in the diesel
Dodge and able to pull a trailer over a mountain with a forklift and other shit on it, Toyota is a useless toy, I unregistered it because it was so useless
>>
>>28991456
>work truck
What work? Making drops at the fish market? You're a softhands boomer cultfag.

Doesnt rust in my cunt. Lmao stay poor.

>I like all these old vehicles
>Bbbbbut I'd never ever ever ever ever suggest u to get 1
>Yeah, this truck that can do truck stuff is "useless" because I can't tow my lardass wife from a XXXXXL trailer
Why are contrarian fags like this? I've had tacomas, hardbodies, rangers, and mighty maxes and all of those trucks were fucking awesome. Perfect for a builder or extensive hobbyist who's in a city or doesn't have a lot of parking space.
Perfectionism robs the good in the world. If you can't appreciate these type of trucks then sorry Charlie but you aint no enthusiast.

Talk to me when you can navigate a home depot without asking a orange apron buddy. Till then, stay in your lane.

I live in the south and have literally helped a buddy weld in plates on the frame of his rusty ass '00s Toyota pickup. I've tried to buy a few 100 Series Land Cruisers over the years and same thing, even the taxed ones are typically rotted to hell to the degree where there's soft spots in the metal of the frame itself.
Something like your average GMT800 likely has the rockers rotted out entirely by now, sure, but the frame is likely still completely solid since they at least threw enough metal into the frame to where the scale is just surface rust.
I've owned a few Japanese cars over the years, too, including a CR-V that literally had a huge hole in the floor under the driver's seat, along with suspension parts like end links that literally rusted off.
I never experienced that on American/European/British cars, even ones from up north that were covered in surface rust.
>>
>>28990500
>just commission an entire frame
How to? I thought there were laws and shit that frame makers could not just make a replacement frame?
>>
>>28992116
>frame makers
Im honestly not sure where to start with this (?)
Yes (pic) are tube frames but...
Are you a euro?
Because in the U.S. I can make a vehicle from scratch, from my own design in my garage from steel i bought off temu and still register it in every state (even fucking California).
So ya, we can pay any wagie to fab a replacement frame and bolt all the factory components onto it and call it a truck.
If you want to be 100% legit then you get it "inspected" and a government employee stamps a VIN on it
>>
>>28991647
Holy shit im glad im not american. Ive got a 34 year old car with not even as much as a rusted bolt.
>>
>>28992189
Post flag.
Because "America" covers nearly the same area as "Europe".
>durhur water counts

Ive lived in 3 of the top 10 largest cities in the U.S.
Lived in 14 states.
Only 1 of those states salted their roads.
Las Vegas sees an annual rainfall of 4" a year.
San Diego sees about 7"
I guarantee I have less rust on 60 yearold vehicles than what you drive.
Conversely I bought a vehicle from Michegan (salt state) and at 9 years old it was collapsing in on itself.

When you see people post "rust belt", thats a stretch of U.S. states that use salts because of snow.
So U.S. vehicles are a mixed bag of pristine daily driven vehicles you would conaider barn finds to absolute cancer patients on life support that someone needs to just pull the plug on and end the misery.
>>
>>28992223
I'm not european you bloviating retard.

>>28992276
Obviously not japan because keeping a 34 year old car on the road with their inspections and taxes is not feasible.

Apparently you didnt know this.
Good way of outing yourself, Suhkdeep...
>>
>>28992303
people have old cars in japan..
>>
>>28992189
this is a non problem south or east of minnisota.
>>
>>28991647
I've never seen a 2000s Toyota with rust on the road and I live in the Midwest. I haven't been under one but the ones I see are 2nd gens and the occasional 1st gen and their bodies are clean while domestic brand trucks ftom the same years are covered in holes.
>>
>>28992477
Yes but its much more involved.
Their safety inspections are worse than Germany.
They do not have a "salvaged" title class. If after an accident anything more than replacing a fender is required the vehicle is usually scrapped.
Of course as the vehicles value increases so does the amount of work that would go in to restoring it.
This is why K. Watanabe has so many slightly used japanese engines.

I worked for a company that bought 65-73 mustangs, stripped them down to a bare chassis and rebuilt them for export to Japan. Im quite gamiliar with their regulations
>>
>>28990502

This. The two worst vehicles i have ever had to maintain were toyota vans. Almost as bad as the condition they were in the cost of parts was insane.
