who was the fucking RETARD that decided they should put fucking BALLOONS that can and will puncture by any nail as the contact points between road and car?
>>
>>28990905
if it’s so BAD then replace it with something BETTER, you RETARD
>>
pneumatic tires are the ones with air in
>>
>>28990905
Been over this.
>rolling resistance
>weight
>shock absorption
>heat buildup
Its fine for your garden cart.
At 35mph, bad shit starts to happen.
At 65mph, you gonna die.
>>
>>28990926
surely this is just a materials science problem

they could use carboner fibber infused roober and shit like that and you'd have stiff, light, lattice networks that can suppwhoret a car
>>
>>28990905
Because your car would ride like shit, anon. I hate flat tires too but that cushion of air you're riding on is part of the suspension

Yes.
They did.
Same issues.
Plus fatigue failure on tje "spokes".

I had a solid rubber "inner tube" on my 20" BMX in the 90s.
This isnt a new concept.
They've been trying to figure it out since the 20s (1920s) and still cant make it work.
>>
>using soft material like rubber
Just use steel, idiot.
>>
>>28991010
I think you're onto something.
>>
>>28991014
Based top gear, rails plus regular car springs and struts have to be so fucking smooth, the commuter trains in my area have that and its dummy smooth.
>>
>>28991021
Watching the episode for the first time years ago I really wanted it to work. I like when the guy in scum class was taking a shit on the back
>>

>hes actually embracing the "new and improved, more comfortable transport pod!!"
God damn the future is bleak.
>>
>>28991014
now if only we could do this but not constrained to rails. We could make the roads out of steel too. That way they last way longer.
>>
>>28990974
Why abbreviate a date if you're gonna put the full date immediately after to clarify?
>>
>>28991046
He probably wanted to punctuate the fact it's an old tech.
>>
>>28990905
they've gotten a lot better. punctures still occur but tyres made now are tougher than they used to be.

Maybe you're not using thick enough tires. I bought reinforced commercial van tires for my compact car.
>>
>>28990974
As kids my friend had aluminium or some shit in his BMX tyres, I was jealous that he never had punctures until I rode it one day, it was pretty awful you felt every little bump on the ground

Drive a forklift with solids for a day. Then you'll understand.
>>
>>28991157
This
100% this
>but it handles fine
Great now that youve used it on solid smooth concrete
Lets go out back and watch you go over a pebble

I remember there was talk of cgi rig cars that literally have adjustable wheelbase just so they can post fx a different body onto it.
sounds kinda gay and im sure it was only used in some turd capeshit film

VAG cars would really do this shit Instead of drive normally

I put airless tires on my gardening cart and I regret it.
its so much harder to push/pull the damn thing, hits every bump, absorbs nothing. no longer smooth, added a ton of rolling resistance.
>>
>>28991037
>>28991342
Trains are good, they reduce traffic and keep retards off the road. Most people are too stupid to drive but have no choice due to lack of public infrastructure.
>>
>>28991157
used to drive a solids forklift
the yard is full of bumps and pot-holes, but then I drove my car through it and the same place felt smooth like glass.
>>
>>28990905
>"with this pneumatic ones."
>it's not pneumatic.
>nobody has mentioned it.
>>
>>28990937
Right you are, it is a materials problem. And they solved it, with air
>>
Alright, why don't they use steel wire acting as an internal spring instead of air. Similar to the wheels and tires on the moon rover? Wrap this bitch in rubber or whatever
>>
>>28990937
Want to hear a real mind blower?
Kevlar (yes, the shit they make bullet proof vests out of) was developed specifically for use in automotive tires.
>>
>>28991700
Weight.
Those tires are actually very fragile. They dented the shit out of them after 20 miles of use.
Car tires already have multiple layers of steel belts. To have enough steel to act as springs would be a 200 pound tire.

Car tires are already steel wires/belts encased in rubber.
>>
>>28991713
Which are only there to hold it together at 100+mph. If they're already there, make them thicker and put less rubber on. If they're already in the tire, make them better and stronger.

Big tire in this thread worried about rubber sales if we find the solution, boys.
>>
>>28991700
Imagine popping a tire on the highway and throwing metal shrapnel everywhere
>>
>>28991257
They are actually used pretty often, because they are cheaper to insure than million dollar supercars.
