How long should I drive a car with no accident to know I'm smart enough to buy a bike and not kill myself?
>>
Bikes and cars are different in traffic. So long you understand how your motorcycle handles and are aware in traffic, you're less likely to have an accident.

>drive a car
A car is not a motorcycle

Riding a bicycle will help you more in the motorcycle journey than driving a car
>>
it's not about being smart enough to not kill yourself
its about being lucky enough that other people dont kill you

You shouldn't drive recklessly besides if you have had accidents or not, bikes are really prone to accidents since the more minuscule pebble on the road or a pothole can send you flying, so always ride a bike in a way that doesn't exceed your own ability levels.

If you get stuck in these thought loops, you'll never get out there and ride. Go do a motorcycle safety course, and see if you like it. They're only a few hundred dollars.

Not true at all kek

That's like saying you should never drive because you're gonna get into an accident.

They're 2 entirely different experiences, if you do get a bike you need to do a lot of studying and practice in order to deploy strategies that will keep you alive and maneuvers that you can rely on in an emergency (like swerving to avoid a hazard, situational awareness, trying to look as far ahead of you as possible, and being in full control of your motorcycle that you can safely but swiftly brake or accelerate out)

Ask yourself 3 questions
-Am I impulsive / egotistical
-Do I have a good sense of balance
-How do I react under duress? Freeze/fight/fawn/flee etc

Theres no objective right way to ride a motorcycle but there ARE objective WRONG ways to ride one. As long as you actively avoid doing those wrong inputs (stabbing your front brake brake lever for example) you will be fine.
Take the MSF courses, get good gear, approach the machine with respect and leave your drive to prove something at the door when you ride off and you'll be okay OP.

long enough to have some karen T-bone you and realize that on a motorbike you would have died and she wouldn't have stopped
