What are your street racing stories, /o/?
>>
I have a LOT. Was in a street racing team in the '00s and my STi was among the slowest.
Meets with hundreds of people on a random street and people lining the sides. I've been awake over 30 hours and am puking. If this thread is still here when (if) I wake, I'll give you a tale or two.

I need more of these old car magazines and scans of them. Always so cool. I have some option and autoworks but not much american stuff.

I had every edition of Sport Compact Car from that very issue until they ended ('09?). My parents threw them out.
Sport Compact Car was the one that refused ads with shitty asian models. Dave Coleman is my inspriation for liking Miatas. Truth be told, he inspired me to go into mechanical engineering. I probably would have gone into photography or creative writing otherwise. He, last I knew, worked for Mazda US after the mag ended.

we used to bait boomers in the mountains with our shitty hondas. all of us were pretty good drivers and one day some boomer crashed his carrera trying to keep up. when my friend saw it in his mirror he turned around to stop and help but the boomer tried to fight him and ended up getting arrested for that when the cops showed up.

Back in high school there was a stoplight and a half mile of straight road in front of my neighborhood. People from school would occasionally race at the light in the mornings. It was a good time.

B-guh. Nothing like waking up hungover at 0130. [swig from bottle] ahh.
>Charleston, SC - '08
>The degenerate engineers in town formed several teams
>Picrel, mine was the stock-height white STi barely showing
>We had a standard meetup place, just at the end of the town's biggest "stroad" (as they're called now)
>I found it by cruising friday / saturday nights and followed any packs of modded cars I saw
>There'd be 100 people at the meet on slow nights, 2-300 on big ones
>We'd just hang out and shit talk, some people used it to find drugs, some used it to find street races
>You were NOT allowed to rev bomb or do stunts at night meets (was fine at legally-sanctioned day meets) as it would attract the ire of the cops
>The cops were totally cool with it as long as no one made a scene
>If we got kicked out from the main spot we'd caravan in a huge fleet of modded cars to one of the 3-4 other spots we had (this part was incredibly cool)
>Sometimes people would ask to race, and we did
>With the serious guys we'd do roll races and bring an entire crew. One or two cars behind to block traffic, one a mile or two ahead to alert for cops.
>We'd go to the 8th mile strip (Dorchester dragway - RIP) some Saturdays and fuck with the shitters.
>>
>>28993349
>Flint, MI - '09
>The whole town is an industrial area that died decades ago so there were abandoned parts of town with multi-lane roads
>We'd go out to just one spot and people would line the roads just like in tFatF and do pulls from a dig just a foot or two away from the absolutely shitfaced spectators ('09 was a different time, and this was one of the worst cities, everyone was messed-up)
>At any time in this town you could end up in a stoplight street race because no one cared. Unfortunately the roads up there suck ass and you spent your brainpower correcting for ruts and potholes more than shifting at the right moment.
I don't have pics of that anymore.

Cool. Thanks dude. Looks like he’s living his best life.

I just in the last 5 minutes got into a street race from a red light (dig). Sierra vs Wrangler lol. I lost by half a car length (was at his rear axle). I stopped at 60 (55 zone) and he kept going. There was apparently a cop explorer right behind us and the disco lights started, I turned off. I'm pretty sure I helped ruin someone's life right now.
Yeesh.

Regale us with your tales.
That car ran 12.8 with less than $500 in mods. Pretty good time for a commuter car in the ‘00s.

You know, it's funny that despite being out on those mean streets for way too long, I can't really think of any stories other than those back when I first started driving and did dumb shit such as being a 16yo with three other teens in a 65 Mustang weaving through freeway traffic against some 70's Trans Am. Or chasing a Corvette with that Mustang into a turn where the rear end let go first and I ended up in the ditch on the other side of the road, etc. The rest of it was basically going and meeting up with friends at the strip malls on the cruise strip, races get arranged over the next few hours, and then we all troop on out to "airport road" where the bridge we used as a launch pad was. It was all very American Grafitti-ish. Great fun at the time but boring as hell to hear stories about.

It's so fucking hard to find people willing to race now. I'll race anyone, I don't care if I win or lose it's just simple fun. IMO it was cell phones with cameras, dash cams, the "social"-based internet, and ALPR systems that killed it.
If someone records you and plasters it on social media where your extended family can see it, you're boned.
In high school I'd get in street races about every other day. My desire to drive hard has not subsided in several decades, so it's some other factor (people don't care about cars anymore).

>Damn I miss when Rob was a superspeeder
I miss when he at least did car content. I unsubbed when I realized he hadn't done a car video (other than complaining about his car rental business) in months. A few years passed and I looked him up again, his YT channel is all but dead. 5k views and almost none of them are car related which is odd for a channel named "SuperSpeedersRob".

I get it, you can't be doing highly illegal shit and post it on the internet, but also, maybe drive one of your ferarris or lambos and complain about NJ roads less.

>IMO it was cell phones with cameras, dash cams, the "social"-based internet, and ALPR systems that killed it.
Nah, the scene had been dying off for decades by the time cell phones hit critical mass. 1981 you couldn't get in the Sonic to do the cruise strip turn around because the traffic was so heavy that people couldn't turn out of the Sonic. The parking lots of the three strip malls surrounding the Sonic were packed at midnight. And this was in a city that rolled up the sidewalks at 8 pm. Around 1990 the traffic wasn't even half that and the strip mall parking lots were mostly empty with only a couple small, insular, groups present.
>sometime late 1990
>friend had bought one of the first Bright Red LX 5.0's in the fall of 1989. Paid sticker at $14,400 fwiw.
>did all the cheap/easy mods that were known to work on the 5.0's at the time and even did 4.10's because he was aiming at running 28's for EFI Renegade (of course it was too late for people that weren't millionaires by the time we even heard of the class but we didn't know that, then)
>riding shotgun with him out on the cruise strip
Friday or Saturday night
>be outbound from the Sonic towards the eastern turnaround to go back west to the Sonic and the parking lots.
>black Mitsubishi Eclipse pulls up next to us at red light
>does the traditional rev/jump to challenge
>friend answers
>no traffic ahead and nothing coming from cross street
>it's on

The strip in my town is this:
https://youtu.be/-TeMSNyN6CM
It's overrun by drunken black people. What reasonable strip lets people hang out drinking and smoking in the burnout box?
>>
>>28995276
>light goes green
>friend walks it out due to Goodyear Eagle banana peels
>Mitsubishi jumps out half a car
>friend finally drops the hammer in 2nd
>Mitsubishi annihilated. I mean, not even funny.
>Mitsubishi proceeds to challenge at every stop light after, like 6 times.
>destroyed every time
>grab the freeway to try and get rid of this guy
>nope, he follows and challenges a freeway pull
>humiliated again. And twice more.
>pulled him so bad on the last one he was out of sight on the other side of the overpass.
>friend decides to loop it around
>Mitsu idjit catches up to us as we slow for the u-turn
>friend says fuck this and goes to talk to the guy
Turns out it was some kid (saying this as a 23 yo at the time lol) and he'd done something to up the boost and said he was used to beating up on 5.0's and couldn't figure out why he wasn't beating my friend's. Later heard that that Mitsu was down for engine work and never heard about it again.

Anyway, memory interlude over, by 2000 or so the Sonic was flattened and replaced by some burrito joint, parking lots were empty, and no cruising of the traditional style was happening. For the group I was part of we essentially took to doing garage parties with the occasional trip out to a nearby county road for any boasts that needed to be settled.
>>
I used to have fake police lights on my Eunos 30X and would regularly engage in street racing. If anyone beat me I'd turn on the lights and siren and pull over the cunt who beat me. He'd shit himself and then we'd have a laugh and I'd fuck off.

Good timez. Good timez.

Corpus didn't, and doesn't, have a drag strip. For that we had to go to San Antonio (Alamo Dragway or Seguin) or Edinburg down by McAllen. Needless to say neither happened very often

I guess I was lucky to live 5 minutes from one with a $10 race all night entrance fee when I turned 16. It used to be run by white people and it wasn't a ghetto clusterfuck, but those days are gone.

I have a boosted Miata that looks completely stock on the outside but makes around 300 horsepower. I sometimes show up to races with it and mess around, and on occasion do a traffic light race with some retard driving a golf gti or something. People never expect a stock looking Miata to be fast ish. It keeps up with a m135i/S3
>>
pretty much just highway pulls and red light digs with people, no real chases. had a couple of fun runs with a teenager in an old rsx. walked a boomer who had just finished camming his alpha platform SS, but got rekt trying to follow an abarth 500 on the dragon. it was putting down some bullshit power to weight and my heavier car had to fight more physics. I ran out of tire to follow him with

GT2560R. It runs 2 psi more than on this sheet so the 300 hp is an educated guess

I would've gone with the GT2871R ("disco potato") for the memes but that curve looks very nice.

"Outlaw" strips are what allowed that behavior to become accepted within the community since they, by definition, don't follow the safety procedures figured out by the NHRA long ago and don't throw those that do that shit out. Those same future rocket surgeons then take their crap to sanctioned strips and ruin that too.
