An f450 high output dually??
I think this is dumb as hell?

Maybe it would be acceptable if it was a regular f350 or 250.
>>
Only if you're a builder / farm hand in the deep rural areas. Aside from that it's just a gimmick to flaunt with.

Do you "need" a car that does 0-60 in 3 seconds and hits 1.21G's on the skidpad on public roads?

Yes i need it to commute to a 40 mile work range.

All those trucks run drop down hitches and squat the fuck out of their rear end when trying to tow any actual weight on a bumper htich. The pictured setup seems to do fine with gooseneck mounts but barely anyone that buys these trucks actually runs that set up.

It's one of my dad's trucks (he's 76). I drive a miata. I hate driving that Silverado. It's stupid, I don't know who conned him into a 6-figure truck but here we are.
The golf cart is better around the farm for 90% of things.

This guy has dementia. He just shows up one day with a $105,000 truck. He's got other vehicles, his previous truck was a V8 maybe 3 years old. I'd love to punch the guy who sold him that in the face. I get it, my dad wants to live out his farmer dreams, but goddamn he was taken advantage of.
It's not even that exciting, you think 975 lb-foot will be fun? You were wrong. It's a diesel and not geared for driving pleasure but for towing like 30,000 lbs. It's huge, what the fuck, I learned to drive on a '90s Suburban, but this is too much. I do not like driving it holy fuck.

>>
>>28995226
Builders do not need trucks like this. They order shit to the jobsite and at most they bring a 2 axle trailer with some tools in them for their guys. They then park it on the side of the road for the 8-10 hours they're on site. I've literally never seen a builder need anything more than an f150 because if they do need it, they're getting it brought in by a supplier who has a real truck and is making multiple deliveries a day. Most construction workers i know drive to work in a corolla.

The owners usually drive massive trucks for no reason because blue collar guys make being a blue collar guy their entire personality because they have nothing else interesting about them.

Uh. I have 4 standard car garages, an RV garage (with hookups, a stove, an oven, etc), and a roll-up tractor garage. So 6 garages. And a barn that can fit 3-4 cars.
Murrica, baby.
>>
>>28995341

Not that unusual out in the country.
In the Suburbs, not so much.

It's smart because that 3rd bay can serve as the Utility shed and workshop.

Then you are on a public road with speed limits and laws regarding "exhibition of speed".
Accelerating at a rate of 0-60 mph in 3 seconds on public streets is illegal in all 50 states.
You only "need" to be able to safely keep up with traffic.
Therefore the only thing you "need" is a Toyota Camry.
>>
>>28995264
Lol.
GM really does just copy Ford.
>>
I daily a F350. I have a desk job. I do it because I can afford it and because fuck you. Deal with it.
>>
Can someone explain exactly what the differences between the 150 250 350 and 450 truggs are?
I've never had this explained to me. I broadly understand the larger numbers are for towing heavier loads and are potentially larger, but in terms of specific suspension differences
????
>>
>>28995296
LOL, my dad spent under $50k on a lightly used Sierra with the 5.3L V8.
Who spends $100k on a fucking Chevy? GMC is the upscale brand.

He's 76, he has dementia and is in cancer remission. I think it's idiotic as fuck and want to mash the skull of whoever sold him on it, but it's what he wanted I guess. Who am I to deny him what he worked for?
>>
>>28995424
F-150 has independent front suspension and light-duty leaf springs tuned to be responsive when unloaded since 99% of F-150's will never see more than 100lbs in the bed.
Once you get to 250 and beyond you're at solid front axles and progressively heavier axles and beefier/stiffer springs and everything's tuned to damp with a load which means a shit ride when unloaded. You have a heavier frame for strength to carry the load.
Anyone who buys a 250 or above because "bigger number must be better" rather than because they're going to be using it as a truck is a retard. They're not designed to be good unloaded.
>>
>>28995300
(The Miata is both)
>>
>>28995424
150/1500 class is "half ton".
So medium duty payload with 1,000 load capacity on the rear suspension (bed and trailer tongue weight, not what it can actually."pull")
(You can think of the old Ranger/S10/Hulux.as 1/4 ton trucks)
250/2500 are 3/4 ton.
350/3500 is 1 ton.
3/4 and 1 ton trucks use a different chassis, susoension and driveline. Everything's bigger (8 lug instead of 5) but some years use same body panels as 1/2 ton.
Ford came out with the F100. Dodge came out with the D100. Chevy had the C10/K10 series (C= 2wd, K=4wd)
Ford went to the F150 for a "5/8 ton", GM went to the 1500 for marketing because "bigger number better".

This was just basically.how it played out and now its somewhat pointless because everyone is trying to outdo the other so payloads have gone berserk within each class.
>>
>>28995449
>They're not designed to be good unloaded.
This goes with old boomer lore about trucks "handling better with a load".
Its actually true.
Front wheel camber changes from unloaded to fully loaded. (Ass end dropped down)
You dont want a truck thats perfect when unloaded and then shitty all the other times. So they put the "sweet spot" in the middle so it handles ok when empty or fully loaded.
Think of-
>ass end higher than front
>level
>ass end lower than front

Add a zero and that's how many pounds you can throw in the truck bed. Newer models can take some more.

The concept of "opsec for everyone" just makes everyone really boring and no one shares anything. I have a current Security+, but I do not care. There has to be a balance of security and living life.
