Should I get it? Will the repair costs be astronomical?
Just get yourself a chevy instead
>>28996568I'd rather take the bus.
it depends on the service history and observed condition and price
>>28996572if you get the s-class you'll have to take the bus 75% of the time anyways
>>28996581Because it will break down often?I'm really only worried about the possibility of frequent expensive repairs. I'm not worried about the price of the car.
is this your daily? i bought a 2018 merc with around the same mileage and the repair costs are insane. got quoted $1.5k for valve cover gaskets. it's not my daily so decided to do it myself and after $250 in parts and a few hours i replaced it. these are not fun or easy cars to work on. the engine bay is so cramped and it took just an hour to unplug all of the wires and hoses needed to access the valve cover. these really aren't cars that you want to work on yourself and anyone you bring it to will charge a lot to do work on it so be prepared.
>>28996564it doesn't matter if you even get it for $1at the end of the day you aren't repairing and maintaining a $1 car, you're maintaining a $120k+ car and the money you will be dropping on the car WILL reflect that
>>28996602>is this your daily?Yeah, it would be my daily. How often does your car require work? Once every 3 months?
>>28996645Not reliable for a daily. Only for a weekend car
>>28996645you would unironically be better off with the same year and mileage maserati gran turismo, plus a set of nice seats. way easier to work on, needs less work, and the only thing that really consistently goes wrong is the dreaded early 2000s sticky buttons

>>28996654Would an E-class v6 coupe be reliable enough for a daily?>>28996658I thought Maserati's were unreliable? Is an S-class even more unreliable than a Maserati?
>>28996662the 4.7 V8 is quite reliable, the zf6 is every bit as reliable as it has been in every other application nobody complains about, the other systems are pretty well compartmentalized and don't really have issues. hell even the Ghibli was alright after the first year or so, all the reputation for unreliability comes from the initial 6 month break in period (was there a bad part/loose cable from factory), and african american 3rd/4th owners not maintaining the car. the s coupe will be worse than the GT
>>28996666Quad 6's confirm you are a FCA shill and thus subhuman
>>28996678would a FCA shill really recommend buying high mileage used cars instead of "hurr lease a grand Cherokee suspension ejection machine"
>>28996662I used to have a E550 coupe. One of the best cars I owned, but the repair costs in the US will def make you sad. Was very easy to work on, compared to Audi and BMW cars I used to own before. I keep glancing at used the S-coupe, but it's way overpriced for what it is. And you def not gonna wrench it yourself, so as other anons said, expect to pay at least $5-10k/year for maintenance if the overall conditional of the car you buy is good.In the end, with all my love for the GT cars I decided to enter the 21st century and chose a used jaguar i-pace instead
>>28996705Thanks for the info. Did your E550 coup require about $5-10k per year in repair costs?
>>28996750Maybe $2-4k, but I did a lot of maintenance and the repairs myself. The biggest expense was the suspension. Didn't have problems with it in Texas, but when I moved to Colorado it started to require overhauls annually. Remember, many European cars are built for German autobahns and such, not dilapidated American infrastructure
>>28996800did yours have air or steel springs?
>>28996804Springs, as that MB didn't even have an pneumatic option. I had an Audi A6 with pneumatic suspension and really loved it. Had to replace the air pump, which was a pain, but not that expensive though. Pneumatic on the Jag is also really good, so it's def worth it in my opinion
used s class cope lmao
>>28996814annual overhauls on steel suspension is crazyI'd turn my car into a monster truck
Dont you ever stop to wonder why used Mercedes cars are so cheap? Lmao, you'll learn soon boyI own 3 pristine Mercs, and they each leak all the time, and I wrench on each of them every month, you'll become a certified benz mechanic after a brief ownership period trust me.
