Whether it's gas or diesel, or whether it's Volvo VW/Audi, Mercedes-Benz or even FIAT, every single 5 cylinder engine seems to be extremely reliable, especially compared to 4 and 6 cylinder engines

1. If 5-cylinder engines are so reliable, why are they so rare in trucks and buses?

2. Overall, very few 5-cylinder engines have been built compared to 6-cylinder engines, not to mention the very popular 4-cylinder engines.

3. Are you sure the 2.0L 20V (Petrol) from Fiat Coupé and Marea is so reliable?

>1. If 5-cylinder engines are so reliable, why are they so rare in trucks and buses?
Not exactly true, many mercedes heavy duty vehicles have used 5-cylinder engines, including the UNIMOG, a literal military vehicle

>3. Are you sure the 2.0L 20V (Petrol) from Fiat Coupé and Marea is so reliable?
Yes
>>
>>28999712
5 cylinders tend to be simpler, and not as crammed with all sorts of VANOS/VTEC/DOD/Turbo garbage. There are obviously 5 pots with that stuff, but they don't make them anymore.
>>
>>28999729
That's an engine cover, the engine itself isn't made out of plastic.
>>
>>28999743
I know what an engine cover is dipshit, literally where did I say the engine was plastic?
>>
>>28999751
You called it plastic in this reply>>28999729
Hope that helps.
>>
>>28999753
Show me the word "engine" in that post
>>
>>28999756
The thread is about engines. Did you get confused and think it was about something else?
>>
>>28999759
I'm shitting on the entire European car industry as a whole for making disposable plastic shitheaps. Hope that helps!
>>
>>28999766
Yeah well the engines aren't plastic.

Just about everything bolted to the block is. Don't forget about the biodegradable onions wiring harnesses rodents find irresistably delicious!
>>28999774
Seethe, yurofag, your industry makes leasebait junkyard fodder that simply doesn't last even before the warranty is up.
>>
>>28999790
That's a BMW. They have never produced a 5 cylinder engine.
>>

what reliable engine powers the car that you drive?
you do have a car, correct?
>>
>>28999803
There is no "European car industry as a whole". Fiat has more in common with Chrysler than with BMW, Volvo has more in common with Mazda than with Audi and so on.

>amerimutt IQ on display again

>>28999805
A carbureted small block chevy and a mazda BP engine.
>>28999809
Then why do they all make junk that barely lasts the warranty period with an overreliance on plastic that turns brittle and sharts itself by 10 years of age?

That's a loaded question that contains a false premise.

Audi still has their DAZA
or rather had
pretty sure they just had to retire it because the new euro emission laws
>>
>>28999820
Source on it being false? Because that's my experience working on them here and plenty of owners' experiences posted online for you to read.
>>
>>28999836
Just the many European engines that are widely accepted to have legendary status due to their reliability. Here are just some that come to mind: Fiat 1.9JTD, Volvo Redblock, Mercedes OM616, VW 1.9TDI, Peugeot 2.0 HDI, BMW M50. You will be very hard-pressed to find a genuine automotive enthusiast who knows their stuff and has anything bad to say about these engines.

>>
>>28999854
The difference there is their current iterations are also still reliable, you don't have to dig to cars they made 30+ years ago to find something that'll last. Post your toolbox, retard.
>>
>>28999858
Current GM small blocks are reliable? What’s going on with the 6.2 buddy?
>>
>>29000044
You know they make more small blocks than that one displacement version of it right? Even then they're replacing affected engines.
>>
>>28999712

over the years volvo i5 turbos got bad. im not sure if they ever fixed it or if thats when they killed the 5 cyl in their lineup but they crack cylinder walls and people on forums sleeve them to fix the mistake volvo made by making them too thin.

Not only that but the timing chain system is a nightmare that likes to stretch and is a royal bitch to repair.
