Why are some “all terrain” tires not 3 peaks snowflake rated? If they are truly all terrain, they should be able to also suffice as winter tires, right?

I’m told epoxy primer is the best stuff for preventing rust, but is it that much better to warrant figuring out how to use a spray gun? I do have a spray gun and some ~5 year old cans of epoxy, but I’ve never used a spray gun before and idk if the epoxy is still any good. I’m gonna be doing a floor pan, on the interior.

if my atf dipstick reads at the top 'hot' notch when its completely cold, how fucked am i in terms of overfilling it? i cant 'just' drain a little bit because the plug is completely sealed and i have to drop the pan.

Found a 2023 tacoma TRD OR with 25k miles on it. I dont NEED a truck but could have fun with it. Want to do road trips, camping, fishing etc and would love something to tinker around with. if I could get it for 40k OTD, am I a dipshit?. I am already priced out of the houses here

This is more of just a curiosity thing

>Watch video of youtuber who documents where I live
>Passes by a car at night and remarks how nice it is
>I've seen the car too, but only once during the day and every other time at night
>Never see it being driven it's always parked up
>It's not a huge city centre, but the flash cunt end often has Ferraris, Lamborghinis and the like parked up on the street
>This isn't quite one of those types, but the base model according to my google search is still £150k
>And it's never parked in the flash cunt end it's always somewhere more sketchy that doesn't really have any theatres, clubs, or pubs around
>Get curious last night watching the video because of the number plate
>I've obviously noticed it before but I'm not going to try and research it in public
>Number plate is made up entirely of 6 numbers with no letters
>Everyone says it's a Guernsey plate, but Guernsey plates only have 5 numbers and they're usually black and white
>This was a more standard black and yellow

What's the deal bros? I tried to look it up on the DVLA and whatnot but they said it was an invalid plate. It definitely isn't being towed to these places and dealership plates are red and white, correct? Ones that deviate from the norm for whatever reason often have some kind of indicator with a small logo or letter or something, but this has none of that.

Is Little Trees New Car Scent any good? I've been using True North for years but have been thinking about changing it up to something different
>>
>>29000329
no, the best way to prevent rust is to use cavity wax, or something like POR15 which can be brushed on.
>>29000405
did you do a change recently? find instructions on how to property fill it. if you have to start over by dropping the pan, than do that. or buy a new pan with a built in drain plug. overfilling is bad.
>>29000424
if you dont need a truck, then rent one. Enterprise can get you a nice V8 ram/chevy/ford for ~$500 a week. I like doing road trips in a pickup truck, and I always rent one. or buy a beater truck for $8k

Anecdotally my old f1shitty with a 4r75 needs the ATF to be way overfull to even work. I changed the fluid a bit ago and filled it to the proper cold level but even after running and shifting it for a bit and making sure the dipstick was perfect, it still slipped so bad it would barely move. I ended up adding an extra GALLON to where the level was well past the "do not add" line (which is what it was and always has been at since I got it) and it went back to working perfectly fine.

Grandaunt is selling dead granduncle’s LS swapped 1981 Malibu in pic related. The engine is the 454cid 7.4L v8 and she said something about him having swapped the transmission for a “450 ambulance transmission”. It needs a muffler and the headers are removed. It was running when it was parked there 6 years ago. Of course I’ll have to bring it home on a flatbed.

She says she’ll sell it to me for $3,000. Is it worth it?
>>

>needs a muffler and the headers are removed
Nobody does this to a perfectly good working car
>It was running when it was parked there 6 years ago.
Yeah I'm sure it was ;-)
>Of course I’ll have to bring it home on a flatbed.
Not a deal breaker if it's reasonably priced
>She says she’ll sell it to me for $3,000
LMAO!

why is it that

I shouldn't buy a used car with a rebuilt title right?
>Was previously a total loss via carfax
>>
>>29001888
Just depends how much cheaper it is than usual and how well the body work was done
>>
>>29001888
For maybe 25-33% of the price for a similar one with a clean title, sure. It's basically worthless, treat it as such.

My Clarion NX503E keeps restarting about every 80 seconds, seems to be a problem a few people have since I can find a few forum posts and also an ebay listing advertising to fix this exact problem by shipping just the unit itself to them.
This causes me to believe that the problem lies within the head unit itself?

Currently tryna see what happens if i leave it unplugged for an hour, does anyone have any ideas?

I don't think that there's something wrong with the wiring harness since it doesn't matter if I drive the car over bumpy roads or let it sit with the engine off, the head unit keeps restarting every 80 seconds.
>>
>>29001888
It depends on a lot of factors.

What was the damage that caused it to be totaled? There are totaled car auction websites where you can find pictures of the car before they fixed it. Was the impact rear, front or side?

The pictures pre-fix and the car fax (if it is up to date) can help make a decision. I bought a rebuilt 2017 rav4 that got rear ended. It was rear ended a few months after the first owner bought it and the insurance decided to total it.

Someone bought it off auction to fix it and sold it. I found the auction pictures by searching for the VIN online and my mechanic friend says it looked good and that the fix job looked good.

It had some minor problems but I fixed them and ended up saving like $5k from buying used non-rebuilt.

The steering wheel is misaligned but I don’t care about it or about driving a rebuilt car. The engine and transmission (most important part) are good and extremely reliable. Plus I work from home so it solves the problem of being able to move from A to B for the least $ possible.
>>
>>29001007
I'd also be using it as a camper in the future and want to be able to get to any trail without any hassle. I really just miss a rough ride I can hit speed bumps at 35 mph and not give a shit

how much do mobile mechanics charge for a pre-sale inspection of a diesel van-bus? 1994 7.3l ford.

the bus runs and drives, would it be a better idea to drive it to a shop? i imagine that due to lack of DEF system, i should be able to bargain slightly lower cost than a modern diesel van inspection, ya/na?
>>
>>29002594
Depends on the mechanic and the area. Could be $30 to $80 bucks
>>
>>29002594
If it runs, you know as much as the mechanic will.

Which AT's don't have the 3P rating?? Pretty sure they all did. If they don't it's probably because they're more desert or mud orientated and those tires are typically dogshit in the winter because they have no siping and are designed to eject mud and rocks instead of holding onto snow. Not like that rating is relevant anyways. The tire only has to outperform some shitty 15 year old benchmark tire by 10% and the manufacturer is allowed to to the testing lol. Plenty of tires have that rating but still suck ass in the winter ie the Falken Wildpeaks.

Isn't that still a little better than M+S, which requires no testing at all, and only suggests that the tire's pattern might be more suited for mud + snow than a tire without that mark?

And yeah, despite being the "severe snow use tyre" mark, the 3PMSF really isn't a high standard. In countries with actual winter, it's more like the absolute minimum spec at which you might not get ticketed for an equipment violation or something.
Some tires with that mark still fail badly in cold conditions because their summer rubber mix becomes too hard to grip a hard surface reliably.
>>
>>29003132
Both ratings are memes. I've seen the M+S rating on borderline slicks that would be lethal in the snow or mud. iirc the 3 peak logo gets you past some of the checkpoints on some mountain passes. otherwise you need chains or actual winter tires.

I ran some of the better performing 3 peak AT's this winter and was pretty impressed. There were only like 3 situations where I wished I had actual winter tires.

How do I remove my front passenger seat without the airbags throwing errors at me and potentially disabling my airbags? I see there are these resistors but I can't find anywhere how many ohms my car uses. If I get the wrong one and cause a code I'm never gonna be able to clear it myself.
>>
>>29003072
the firestone destination ATs were not 3 peaks rated but the firestone destination AT2s were.

was also looking at the traverse Z71 tire, a goodyear wrangler AT, and they were not 3 peaks rated either. Just seemed weird to me

>>29003069
mechanic should be able to recognize any worry-some patterns in the bumps and lumps of shifting in the automatic transmissions, ya?

also since this js an older ford, should i try and search out an older mechanic? someone who has been working on these fords since they were new?
>>
>>29000949
probably a trailer queen that gets taken out only one day a year but every night the boomer owner hates his wife. lots of rich fucks have a car like that. if it's a classic car it might have antique plates, specialty plates that are "real" often have a different format than the normal state plate
>>
>>29003132
>>29003157
Watch Tyrereviews on jewtube. I remember one of his videos mentioning the minimum standard for the 3 peak rating. I believe it was an internal test where it had to beat the tires rated M+S from its own line up by a certain margin. AKA shit beating shit

Will starting fluid be less strenuous on an engine that is having trouble starting from sitting compared to a few minuets of cracking the starter?

What is the purpose of this funky intake design? The engineers must have had a reason for making it this way over a straight tube. What befefit does this provide?

>>
>>29004095
put the socket into a vise, then use a hammer and punch on the bolt head

>>29003836
Almost looks like it's shaped to let denser matter fall into the cup at the bottom. Maybe it helps keep water and debris out of the actual air filter if anything somehow ends up inside the tube?
>>
>>29003836
my guess is reduction of noise and prevention of water ingestion

I'm currently eyeing a 2023 IS300 F Sport AWD.
70,000km @ 26,000 USD with all the bells and whistles, heated seats and heated steering wheel.

3.5L V6 NA, direct+port injection, 6 speed.

What sort of store should I be looking for if I want my car corner balanced?
>>
A 3 weeks ago I cleaned all my caliper glide pins (and the hole), removed the rust, lubed them all up.
Yesterday, I went to check and on my front brake, the lower one is once again seized, I wasnt even able to remove it. I suspecting its the pin with the rubber around it. It was also hard to remove when I cleaned them. But what the fuck does this mean? What did I do wrong? Whats the best way to clean + lube them? I used silicone grease but it was a cream. Should I use a spray?

>the bus runs and drives, would it be a better idea to drive it to a shop?
yes, because they can throw it up on a lift and actually inspect it
