what was the more important invetion for humanity: cars or guns?
>>29001407Guns. No question.
Cars because guns are boring
>>29001412not really. guns are important because they allowed europeans toconquer the whole world but even if europeans hadnt invented firearms they would have still raped the entire world by running over niggers and chinks
>>29001430Without guns the horse would remain culturally and militarily relevant for far longer. Without guns and cannons to oppose them the Mongols could've remained an empire into the 1800s.If the reason for no guns is no blackpowder/smokeless powder, we wouldn't have the explosives for the coal mining needed to fuel the Industrial Revolution at such a rapid pace. Instead of a roughly 90 to 100 year event, the Industrial Revolution could've taken 200-400 years (which would be more in line with events like the Italian Renaissance or the Iron Age). Which would mean if we even had cars in this alternate 2025, they'd probably low volume experimentals like the Patent Motor-Wagen or the early steam designs.
>>29001407guns
guns as they make europoors seethe even harder than big V8 engines
Cars, because you can kill bad guys with cars but you can't drive a gun
>>29001407cars. cowadoody obsessed losers like to point at muh warfare as the end-all be-all of innovation but what really let humanity explode was cheap logistics
>>29001414I think guns are cool because you can study every part of a gun and understand perfectly how all of this work to the point where you would be able to assemble it by yourself with no intructions. Studying cars at this level would be way harder.
>>29002124Humanity really has turned into a bunch of pussified cattle.Youre the faggot that screams for help when being mugged by a Somali thats 2 weight classes below you. When youre tied up during a home invasion and your wife and children are being raped that smug "im too civilized to need weapons" mentality will evaporate.
>>29002215no one said this. but guns are affordable and prolific because of transport systems bringing all the necessary materials to build and feed them together. seethe
Incredibly tough call. On one hand, smokeless gunpowder's invention and enhancement directly led to ammonium nitrate, without which the modern world is impossible. On the other hand, without combustion engines, of one form or another, we could not even ship the capital good nexessary to build the factories that refine nitrogen out of our atmosphere. And there's probably more shit that I'm not even considering that makes this more difficult.
Guns made the wrong people win throughout history and now we live in this dogshit cyberpunk dystopia. They're more important I guess, even if cars had never been invented, alternative methods of personal transportation would've appeared or replaced them.
The sword is still a viable weapon today everywhere. The horse is only a viable method of transportation in 0.00000003% of locations and only if you're rich.Cars were more important, obviously. Led to the distribution of resources and ideas. When my parents were born they didn't have TVs and there were libraries instead of wikipedia. The ability of the automobile to spread information led to what I'd call a 3rd industrial revolution. In 10 years you went from ordering a kilo of iron to getting 50 kilos of iron a day, you could scale up where people in 2nd and 3rd world countries couldn't.
>>29002245>ammonium nitrateim pretty sure that while the exact chemical mechanics were not known, fertilizers were already basically "use old horse bedding (i.e. ammonia-rich piss and organic filler) and shit slurry (nitrogen rich goop) for best results" and was a direct precursor to modern ammonia based fertilizers
Guns are still in Ford mode. You buy a standard model for life. No planned obsolescence. Almost no social status ladder.I'm proposing gun sloaning. A facelift each year. ridicule and shame everybody with 3 years or older guns, unless it's super rare premium segment gun and only of it hasn't been appropriated by oriental/african youth culture. We must reach a point where npcs will spend their entire salary on new guns, and ignoring cars becomes as natural to new generations as ignoring real estate.
It's hard to say, both are pretty cool.
>>29002219Everybody had guns in 1776, 50 years before the first rail line in the U.S.A single shop could turn raw ore and lumber into a weapon accurate at 100 yards.Dumbfuck.
>>29002488The firearms market has gotten trendy enough that we're already at that point.>You don't want yesterday's .380 micro pistol, get today's 9mm>You don't want to keep the factory stock mags, get the +2 baseplate today>You don't want to keep yesterday's micro 9, get today's doublestack version>You don't want yesterday's doublestack micro 9, get today's optics ready version>You don't want yesterday's pistol with finger grooves, get the new model without groovesThe last 15 years of handgun "development" have been nothing but manufacturers producing different variations on the width and size of polymer striker 9s and pretending it's a brand new pistol each time. I parked next to a Kei truck at the shooting range a while back, and those things are pretty damn small.
>>29002267Sure, but the quantity of nitrogen that you make available with poop and fish guts is not comparable to what you get with the Haber-Bosch process, not to mention how fast microbes can break down slurry, or how many molecules of nitrogen per cubic foot of fertilizer the plants have access to.I think I remember reading that to match the volume of ammonium nitrate with poop, we'd have to convert every remaining acre of forest in Canada and Brazil into livestock pastures, and even then a good chunk of the world is still dying to starvation because poop just doesn't break down fast enough.
>>29002610>Sure, but the quantity of nitrogen that you make available with poop and fish guts is not comparableok but they were doing it a thousand years before jesus was invented and modern chemists still don't know why willow tea makes your head stop hurting>>29002514>get today's 9mmbro isn't shooting 6.5 Grendel? ban him from ArfCom immediately

>>29002514>The last 15 years of handgun "development" have been nothing but manufacturers producing different variations on the width and size of polymer striker 9s and pretending it's a brand new pistol each time.you are smoking the incorrect amount of crack
>>29002610>because poop just doesn't break down fast enough.it's less that and more that it's an immediate byproduct of various oil refining processescomposting worked basically until the industrial era and even then they werent making literal shit out of oil yet, but there were well developed processes for refining "waste" ash into decent fertilizer that remain more or less the same, just more optimized (but less cost effective than what would have been oil refinery runoff) and even that was more limited by people not burning enough shit to make the burnt shit (figurative) into refined sewage that's got what plants crave without impacting other processes

neither. the most important invention IMO is the mill and the lathe. pretty much every piece of machinery thereafter lends it's existance or it's significant improvement to those 2 machinist devices.
>>29002887I mean if you're going that route then parts standardization is the most important invention. Being able to take a screw made on one machine and thread it onto a nut made on a different machine, or to be able to have a replacement part just fit without having to modify it, was a massive advancement in industrialization.
>>29002887>but I did have breakfast
the car from leonard part 6
why not both?
>>29002887If you're gonna be like that then we may as well say the wheel is the most important thing. and that means cars, as their descendant, are more important than guns, which are an independent branch of invention. qed shit nigger
>>29001407>guns kill people>cars transport peoplewhat 0% brain thread is this
>>29001407my car has a magnetic gun holder under the wheel.
>>29004371Cars kill more people every year than guns.
>>29003545Where is your God now?
>>29004426Yknow what kills even more people a year? Age. Age would make a great weapon.
>>29004513they already have premature aging serum. it's called HFCS
>>29004371guns efficiently allocate souls
>>29002115>you can’t drive a gun
>>29004575you don't drive the gun on that though. the gun is attached to a car. you didnt even post a tank with a proper articulating turret, nor something like a mortar truck or at least a car from a movie with guns in the headlamps or something. and multiple posters have already made this joke, but with more appropriate (and inherently funnier) vehicles. you missed the dunk
>>29004592it's literally a self-propelled gun. and a porsche
