How important is suspension really? my 22 year old shocks has been leaking for the past 3 years and idk if I should replace them
>>
>>29002255
This is what no shocks does to an mf. Yes replace them.

It's like sex. If your ass hurts, change things up. Otherwise keep going
>>
>>29002255
depends on the car, if its a toyota you wont notice any difference

I never had sex

is it fine to just replace the fronts and reuse everything, just replacing the shocks/dampers themselves? the rear I'll do later
>>
>>29002293
Front struts? At 22 years the upper strut mounts and bump stops are likely worn out as well, and to change the strut you have to take them off anyway. My parts list would look something like this:
>both front bare struts
>both upper strut mounts
>2 bump stops
>strut dust boots (if they're torn and not reusable)
>2x front camber adjustment bolts, 1 per side (if applicable to your vehicle, has to have a strut to knuckle flange with 2 bolts, this is to get the alignment closer than without them, and you have to remove said bolts anyway)
>both rear shocks
Don't forget the alignment afterwards.

For anything that isn't a freak of nature defect chance usually the entire suspension package is worn in together, and worn out enough that if you don't replace the entire mount setup including bolts you're probably going to have a bad time.
Better to do it right once than put it back together and realize your pillow mount bearing is going to break because everything doesn't fit right, or, something else you should have replaced anyways broke.

this is very expensive bros. My fronts need to leak a bit longer. How much time do I have or is it already too late?
>>
>>29002323
1 week, 2 days, 4 hours, 37 minutes, and 21 seconds left.

generally yes. bad suspension can make your tires wear out, make alignments not stay aligned, can lower gas mileage, and increase braking distance. That last one alone is something you really dont wanna give up.

>Edge case being portrayed as equal to only degraded shocks
Just stop.

Test at each corner of the vehicle, by pushing down with full bodyweight.
Does each offer Damping / definitive resistance to the compression?

Don't perform unnecessary maintenance just because you've already concluded it necessary.
Perhaps it isn't.

Checked. Listen to this guy >>29002749

How bad is the "leak"? Is it just sweating (oil residue on the shock body but no puddle on the floor)? Or is there actually a puddle/drips that you can see? If you see a puddle/drips then youre gonna need to change them soon.

A general test is to give a few hard pushes down on each corner one at a time to get the car bouncing then let go. Watch how it recovers. If it cycles up/down more than 2-3 times theyre considered worn out. If they recover after 2-3 up/down cycles theyre fine and changing them wont net you any noticeable difference unless you switch to performance shocks or ebay shitters.

Imo keep an eye on them until they start to actually drip or the bounce test fails. Save your money until you can get something nicer bro

either I'm not pushing hard enough or these fuckers are blown cause I dont really get any travel or bounce at all kek. I can continue to drive on this until the end of the year at which point I can buy new Bilstein oem like replacements for front and rear or today I can buy a 2nd hand set of oem fronts for a fraction of the price - they are also 20 something years old though not leaking but this would still be retarded right? they're old and tired surely
