Has anyone ever done this before? I found a car I like online. It's in my price range. It's a somewhat rare car in a specific color that I like (which is hard to find). The only problem is that it is at a dealership about 450 miles away. I have driven an identical model in a test drive a couple of years ago, so I know that I like the actual car itself. I want to finance the car but if need be could buy cash (it is listed for about $10k). I think it is being listed for close to a fair price, and it's beautiful, so I think it will sell, and it's been listed for a couple of weeks already. How would I go about securing the purchase without being there? Soonest I could get to the dealership would be about 2-3 weeks from now. Should I call the dealership and see if they'll hold the car if I send them the down payment? I really like this car, I love the color, I know that it may be a long time before I find another car of this make/model in this color for this price with this low of miles. What do I do? Fwiw, the carfax looks good, no accidents, regular maintenance etc. pic unrelated, but posted for attention
you can call a local mechanic that specializes in the make and ask if they can do a pre-purchase inspection for you and work with the finance manager on the financing partbut if you are financing a 10k car wtf are u doing with your life
Yes I've done it. Bought a one way flight ticket and drove it home. No regrets.> How would I go about securing the purchase without being there? You can make a deposit. > Should I call the dealership and see if they'll hold the car if I send them the down payment?Yes, they will. You send them a deposit* not a down payment.
>>29003124>Yes, they will. You send them a deposit* not a down payment. Is the deposit usually credited towards the down payment? I'm not just going to throw money away>>29003114>but if you are financing a 10k car wtf are u doing with your lifeI'm 35 years old, I make 24 dollars per hour, and I have $12,000 in my bank account. (I do have a little bit in a 401k and other investments). I just want to own a car that I think is cool and fun before I'm 40 years old. I've never had a cool car. I've only ever driven Buick LeSabres and Crown Vics since I was 16
I wondow shop on autotrader just to see whats going on with the car market and there was a single owner 100k miles 2013 Infiniti g37 IPL up for like 12,500 i think. Should have pulled the trigger on that just to have it. Was delisted in less than 5 days.
>>29003146>Is the deposit usually credited towards the down payment?YesThis is true for not only cars but also things like apartments.
>>29003108Yeah, bought a car from across the US and had it shipped unseen to my home. Worked out great, beautiful car, very happy. Got it from a good dealership with a full service history from the manurfacturer's own dealers and it still had a bit of warranty left on it (lightly used). Saved a ton compared to the more expensive ones listed locally.>>29003114I finance all my cars and have made a lot more back investing the saved money, it's the smarter thing to do
>>29003108Listen up. This is probably going to freak you completely out of your gourd, but this is what you have to do: Pick up the phone and call the seller. I know it's scary but this is required if you want this car.Tell him you're interested and want to send a deposit until you can get there. Have him send you any detailed photos of the car that you want and that might help you make a decision. At this price range they're probably not gonna let you take the car to a 3rd party inspector and I doubt you want to pay another $300 for someone to do that but I dunno. Nows the time if so.Get the final out-the-door price in writing (email) so there are no surprises when you get there (probably will be since you dont know what you're doing). In the interim get your shit together and decide how you're going to get up there to look at it and whether you'll drive it home or have it transported (another $500-650). This would be your last chance to walk away and you should be prepared to do so if anything gets fucky or isnt as described.
>>29003352Hey buddy retard! this guy has $12,000 to his name and is about to blow $11,000 of it on a car.... and at 35 yrs old he doesnt know how to buy a car online. Your advice is like telling your grandma with terminal lung cancer that she shouldnt smoke because it's bad for her. She knows that. This guy knows that.At this point, nobody cares. This dude has found his dream car and with his high time preference there is NFW he's waiting 2 yrs (or 4!) to make $2-4k on his savings. Just not happening. This is /o/, it's not where people come to find out "the smarter thing to do" fuckin LOL.
>>29003146Do you live at home, have a mortgage, or are you renting? Whats your actual net cash that you take home at the end of each month? Also how hard is this thing to sell if shit hits the fan? My gut says you arent in a good financial position to buy this thing but like >>29003487 says, youre 95% gonna do it ayways lolImo, if the financing is longer than 4yrs and monthly payments are over 50% of your net monthly take home pay, youre digging your own grave because you havent even accounted for gas/repairs/maintenance/insurance yet
>>29003146>I just want to own a car that I think is cool and fun before I'm 40 years old.Just get an LS430 broFunPowerful enoughComfortable as fuckReliableDurableForget about the "sports car" bullshit.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y708hCyKkk8
>>29003487It's never too late to learn basic financial literacy, retard. Besides, I'm suggesting that he get the car, where do I say he should wait? I'm telling him to finance it and invest his money. Learn to read
>>29003479Yeah I've already been going back and forth with the dealer. But I found out I'd rather get a 2nd generation later model, and there's one for sale much closer to me that I could drive out and check out myself. Still unsure about the car because it's a smaller vehicle and I'm a taller gentleman>>29003503I am renting. At the end of the month, after taxes and 401k contributions I'm taking about $3000 cash home with me. My rent is $850 per monthAccording to the calculator on the dealer's website, with a $2000 down payment, my monthly. payment for 48 months would be $184 per month. I can easily afford that. That just means going out to the bar less or not buying drugs. Monthly payments would be less than 10% of my monthly income
>>29003731>Just get an LS430 broNo. I wanted one at one point, but the Lexus tax is simply too much for me. For the price of an LS400 or LS430 with 200k+ miles, I can get a Jaguar with 70k miles, and the Jags of that era are orders of magnitude more beautiful than the Lexuses. I've driven comfortable sedans for my entire life, mainly a Lincoln Town Car and a Grand Marquis. I love luxury sedans and driving down the road in comfort. I just want something more fun. I will get a luxury sedan again at some point in the future, but right now I want something more exciting. I want something that will make a woman's pussy slightly moist when I drive by. We all know that 25-30 year old sedans are like a desiccant for most women sadly
>>29004085how are Americans so stupid. You make 3k a month profit and you only have 12k cash at 35! still rent and how is your dream car 10k lmao. Why don't you just wait 5 more months and buy it cash
>>29004228How about he finances it, get's it immediately and then pays it off in full in a few months after saving? He'll pay almost no interest and get the "somewhat rare car in the specific color he likes" instead of missing out. Why are poor people here so obsessed with only ever buying cars for cash
>>29004365>but I want it Now!that's why. I'm certainly a lot richer than OP and I have a nicer car than him
>>29004413>dude just wait until you're 55 so you can buy a nice car and look like you're going through a 3/4 life crisis! You will never get your youth back no matter how rich you are. Grindcels are fucking retarded.
>>29004365>How about he finances it, get's it immediately and then pays it off in full in a few months after savingYou incur (((penalties))) for doing stuff like that
>>29003108>finance 10k car>it's now 30k car????
>>29004228>how are Americans so stupid. You make 3k a month profit and you only have 12k cash at 35!I just got a raise this year that bumped my pay up to 24 per hour. Prior to this the most money I ever made was $22.38 per hour back in 2024. Also last year until I moved and found a cheaper place, I was paying over $1000 a month for rent. Kinda hard to save money at that point, but I'm in a better position now, which is why I am thinking about buying a car I want instead of driving my 20 year old grand marquis with 200k miles that is falling apart
>>29004595you sound financially responsible, purchase in peace.idle curiosity though..... what interest rate for a $10k loan were you quoted? (This should be interesting)
>>29004086>buying a $10k car to impress women Ah I'm sure the vapid gold diggers will be soaking their panties over a 15 to 20 year old car lmao
