>just another day up in the tire shop
>chiefin' hay, fucked up
>already had 4 people come in asking about this goddamn light
>it's not even 11 AM yet
>it's summer
I wish I could strangle whoever invented TPMS. Anyone else work in a tire shop?
>>
You’re looking at this the wrong way. You have millions of suckers coming to you. Tell them what tpms is, fill their tires, and charge $40. That’s $40 you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Most American shops are allergic to any kind of work and actively hate their customers.
OP would probably rather be home cuddling with his anime pillow and playing gacha games on his phone. Nobody wants to work anymore.
>>
>>29004281
>it's summer
what does this have to do with tpms? does the heat trigger the light or something? I don’t know much about tpms because I have never owed a car with functional tpms and I’ve never bothered to have them fixed.
>>

Corporate offers a free tire check and fill if a customer comes in with the TPMS light on. It's supposed to generate sales, and us monkeys get paid on commission. But we are next to a ghetto which means that nogs with bald tires come in and yell at us and then don't buy anything.

Battery operated sensors are such a retarded idea. They could put a tiny coil and magnet in there and charge a capacitor on every rotation but that makes too much sense
>>

>what does this have to do with tpms
Cold deflates tires a bit and can trigger the tire pressure warning light. The first cold snap of the year is usually what brings triggers a surge of people.

I don't think you guys understand what it's like dealing with type of people who come in asking "what's this light mean?"
>>
What's wrong with my one tire that deflates whenever the weather changes slightly?

You just need a new set of whatever tires we get the biggest commission on.
>>
>>29004344
nobody wants to work for the poverty wages (((they))) want to pay. you would flip burgers for $50 an hour, right? it's not the work.
>>
>>29004404
>(((they)))
tire shops are like exclusively guys named Rodrigo
>>
>>29004414
they are not their own bosses choosing how much to pay themselves.
>>
>>29004422
just start your own tire shop then
>>
>>29004391
Yeah that's why I went to college
>>
>>29004435
nobody busting tires for $12 an hour has the money to start a shop
>>
>>29004440
Das rite! Das rite!!
Now gitcho honkey ass down'ere and fillup my tires boy! I needtaseedamanager.
>>
>>29004369
I never understood how we had self winding watches for centuries but giant worldwide corporations can't figure out how to keep those sensors charged
>>
>>29004465
they can but would need to spend money on new tooling for what would only be sold on new cars and to replace broken sensors, instead of selling whole new sets of them 80% of the time a small battery dies
>>
>>29004480
I also have thought this about keyfobs. I get it with mine it's been changed the once in almost 20 years and it's only for locking and unlocking but those horrible button start car fobs
>>
>>29004281
>>29004363
Why aren't you upselling a full TPMS replacement?
>>
>>29004391
>it means open up that wallet, fat boy

>>29004465
rent-seeking. if the sensors don't die, how will they sell you more?
>>
>>29004287
>charging to air up tyres
Is this real? Must a be an American (Jewish) thing
>>
>>29004800

Europeans charge people to go to the bathroom.
>>
>>29004800
Even the chain tire stores don't charge for this
>>
How easy is it to change tpms sensors yourself using just tire irons? Asking for a friend.
>>
>>29005005
Changing tires without a machine sucks donkey dick. You'll need to break the top bead and have something/someone else to press the tire downwards near the sensor so you have room to get a ratchet and T10 torx bit on it. Afterwards you'll also need a programmer tool to relearn them to the car, almost no makes/models will just figure out new sensors on their own without one to tell the computer it has new sensors. I've seen some cheap ones on scamazon but have no experience with them.
>>
>>29004281
yeah, i was a tirefag for 7 years, never had an issue.
tires a couple pounds low? air them up and send the customer on their way.
tire flat? patch it and send the customer on their way.
tpms battery dead? tell the customer they can buy a set on amazon for $35, or the shop can buy a set for $200 and I can install the new set for them.
everyone was always happy for the help.
