I guess I should've done this way earlier, I'm surprised these brakes were even working.
I got the piston out of one of them, but I can't get the other one out, even with an air compressor.

These are gonna take a ton of time to clean up.
Do I have to use high temp paint? Or can I just getaway with rust converter spray paint?

2 of the 3 electromagnet coils had melted and welded themselves, destroying the coils.
I don't know how I thought the transmission of these 6-way power seats worked, but I was not expecting this.
When I had the seat hooked up to a car battery to test it, the lights on my Milwaukee wrench kept lighting up, I guess because of the coils create an electrical field or something?

Anyways this seems to be an impossible part to find. So I guess I'll try and find one at a partyard someday.

What's that going to take to re-up? Can't imagine it's quick and easy for modded cars with zero emissions equipment left. Still, not like you'll find a better hot rod for the money over there.

And I don't care if it's in Ingerland, it needs more fan and a shroud. Wonder what's up with the single red reflector/light slung under the back bumper. I probably would have preferred double back up lights, but hey, it's a lightweight racing XJS lol
>>
>>29008147
>single plane edelbrock scorpion, basically a 70s victor jr.
Fuckin' knew it.

The fuel's not making the turn towards the front. Try a 1 inch spacer first. Whatever you can get your hands on easy to see if that evens things out.

Alternatively, you could try to fab a shim that hangs out in the flow path under carb in the front to try and create a spoiler effect that makes the air/fuel mic turn tighter. Ford played that game with the 5.0 CFI LTD LX's after they proved to starve the front cylinders due to poor distribution from a shitty manifold design.

>What's that going to take to re-up?
Not much, MOT stuff is mostly safety related, and it's really not *that* difficult to pass providing your car isn't an absolute shit heap. Rust is usually the main reason why cars fail, and this looks in good order. Some testers can be a bit cuntish, though, which is why it's always nice to know a tester who'll give you a moody test.

>Can't imagine it's quick and easy for modded cars with zero emissions equipment left
Bit of a grey area, but our emissions stuff is quite lax for old cars, regardless of swaps and the like. Pic rel is the chart MOT testers are supposed to follow, but with classic stuff most testers just stuff a rag up the exhaust to trick the machine into thinking all is good. As a side note, that Jag will not need an MOT next year, as anything older than 40 years doesn't require an MOT or road tax; it means owning a classic here can be cheaper and easier than running a modern car in some cases.

>Wonder what's up with the single red reflector/light slung under the back bumper
That'll be a fog light - by law, cars from 1980 and up need to have a rear fog light by law, and most people who import cars from countries without them are too lazy to blend it in nicely, so they just hang it off the back somewhere. Most of the time you can get away with just wiring up the third brake light as your fog light, which is a rather tidy way of keeping things both legal and clean.

spacer plants have very consistent growth rates; water them once a day for two weeks and you'll have a 1/2 inch spacer. water them twice a day for the same amount of time and you'll get a 1 inch spacer. The pioneers used to farm these babies for years.

Its because of the firing order- how the air charge is being pushed through the intake.

Think of the carb as the flame and how intake pulses flow in one direction and then another.

Single planes suck ass and like >>29008227 mentioned theyre notorious for lean comditions. That thing was designed with a slide rule before computers were available. Its more art than performamce.
Theyre good for forced induction but on an N/A build that extra 5hp up top is nothing compared to the overall performance and lack of headache of a good dual plane.

Thoughts on re-lapping valves? I noticed that the valve faces and seats were pretty nasty looking, which included some light pitting, so I figured it would probably be worthwhile re-lapping them. Wasn't until after I did the job that I did some research and discovered that lapping valves seems to be a fucking massive point of contention, and it's got me second guessing.

I mean, I guess so, but I don't see how it's any more dangerous than other parts of building an engine; people will quite happily hone their own bores, yet somehow that's nowhere near as questionable despite being just as dangerous and easy to fuck up? Seems odd to me.
>>
>>29016714
I've always been told to only do enough to clean the seat and move on. Apparently the seats have a very specific cut to them to seal and transfer away heat excess polishing can ruin these aspects so you would have to get a dedicated valve seat cutter to recut the seats if you went the town on the polishing
>>
>>29016900
Rings compensate for for the difference in size between the piston and cylinder.
They can expand and contract.
The seat IS the seal on the valve.

If you want to test valve seats, you flip the head upside down and with valves seated you fill the combustion chamber with a thin solvent. There should be zero leakage past the valve/seats.
Do you think you polished it without any distortion or variances to have a perfect seal?
>>
>>29017041
i've lapped aircraft engine oil control valves and they almost always have a slow leak (within design tolerance of course)

>thinks replacing a head gasket once makes him "an engine builder".

>you flip the head upside down and with valves seated you fill the combustion chamber with a thin solvent
I sprayed brake cleaner into the exhaust and intake ports, that good enough? No leaks from any of them. Also held a light to the ports while in pitch darkness, and didn't see a single lux's worth of light around the valve from any angle. Might have been a bit pointless, but I figured better safe than sorry.

And no.
I wont post it.
Bur you should focus on capturing these moments from your own world because theyre fleeting and irreplaceable.

apparently that's how you fuck shit up. From what I've read you're meant to put a bit of lapping compound all around the seat, then turn the valve 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn back and forth until a contact pattern is made, and just spinning the valve won't be as good.

Looks like that full vacuum line redo I've been putting off is happening now, as soon as I finish replacing the rear brake cylinders and bleeding and flushing my off road toy today.

Christ. Beautiful cars, otherwise spoiled by nigger-tier wheels.

at least wheels are easily changed, even if the current owner has poor taste
what wheels would you choose for the Pantera?

Might be the problem, if there's too much volume in the plenum your fuel may be dropping out of suspension at low revs and giving an uneven mixture at the combustion chamber. You should use dual plane small volume manifolds if you're not racing. You want to aim for better intake charge velocity at low revs.

Probably the stock ones, tbf. Either that, or similar-ish ones in an inch larger diameter. Those Panteras really suit a big blocky wheel design.
