sexo denying these types of vehicles are ideal for many based on their needs in an urban setting is smol peen energy
>>29012012i'm sure it'll be reasonably priced and not nearly twice as much as the citroen ami..
we wuz France n sheit
>>29012022I am sure EU countries subsidize these
>>29012022
wow, only $15,000!!! what a steal for an 8 horsepower golf cart with a 25 mph top speed and 46 mile range!! oh, did i mention it's not street legal?
>>29012028It's limited to 45kmh only in some european countries due to microcar laws, but it should go a tad faster in the US.Still it's just a pod for city dwellers, not something you're supposed to take on the highway, so it's pretty okay for what it is.
>>29012029this if you live in Seattle or Chicago it’s a great city run around
>>29012024>I am sure EU countries subsidize theseNo they don't, furthermore, they're still overpriced because they factor public gibs in the price, it's no joke that when germany stopped giving money for EVs, somehow tesla could slash the amount they were subsidizing from their cars and still make profit.
>>29012012I'd personally get the silence s04 rather than the ami, it's not even more expensive than the citroen.
>>29012012Right, because these type of cars (Smart, Fiat, etc.) that scream "POOR" sells soooo well in America. Actually, it's not even the optics, we just hate small cars here Mini sales are steeply falling every single quarter
>>29012084Norwegian fren, the Buddy
>>29012084
>>29012094the fiat 500 sold pretty well? i see loads of them
>>29012024I got to experience one, and I'm honestly shocked at how fucking expensive they are for *what* they are. I'm not exaggerating in anyway when I say they feel like a motorised "Little Tikes" car. The whole thing is made from cheap shitty plastic, and you'd find better seating quality in a prison. I can't believe that I'm being genuine with this next statement, but I'd honestly rather ride a bicycle or an e-bike. A genuinely awful form of transport who's sole advantage is being classed as a "quadricycle", meaning you can legally drive it with only a moped licence - but even then I'd still say it's significantly worse than moped.
>>29012129to be fair i haven’t driven one
>>29012136You're not missing much. Get someone to push you around in one of these, it's basically the same thing.
>>29012149meh i am mildly handicap due to a surgical implant if i was no kids, urban professional, living in some city i think its ideal
>>29012043no it isn’t. American cities aren’t built such that a vehicle that tops out at 25mph can be driven around them. you will be forced to go on higher speed roads or locked out of areas.
>>29012168>meh i am mildly handicap due to a surgical implant>if i was no kids, urban professional, living in some city...then you'd probably be better off with a mobility scooter. The critical problem with the Ami is that it's in this odd grey area where it's realistically too big to park and navigate in the streets and pedestrian traffic of the city, while also being too small and slow to be of any practical use for those more significant drives. There's a good reason that cars like this (bubbles cars and the like) have never really taken off despite existing for decades. They're realistically aimed at young 'uns that want to get around, but don't want to get a driver's license - a compromise on wheels for a very niche audience.
>>29012168>>29012208I feel like I should better explain that when I say "too big to park and navigate in the streets and pedestrian traffic of the city", what I mean is quite literally *IN* the city, as in on sidewalks and the like. For just poodling around a city as you would a traditional car, I see no reason as to why you'd choose an Ami over, say, a Smart ForTwo - a vehicle that's far more capable, yet similar in size.
It’s almost like you shills haven’t been to America. There are usually 1-2 interstate highways running through a given city and that is how we get around town. I’m in city limits but it’s a 20 minute drive on the interstate to get downtown.
>>29012029In the US they're classified as 'Neighborhood electric vehicles', which are limited to 25mph at sale (you can legally make them go faster though) and can only drive on 35mph or slower roads. They also require a driver's license and insurance, which isn't the case in a lot of EU countries, removing a big reason why people buy them.
>>29012208i’m in scottsdale currently, nothing like Chicago or Portland, where i think the car would be perfect, and here in scottsdale loads of people get around on golf carts. If you only need to run around town i don’t see what the problem is. Need to get further? Get a cab to and from the airport. And listen, i love road trips and exploring, done lots of it. But maintaining a big exploring grand touring vehicle you only use to drive around town 99.99% of the time is a L if you’re not rich.
>>29012208creepy evil eyes different species
>>29012223how much more is that to purchase and maintain? some of your points are spot on but i still see the ami as fitting a niche.
Stellantris =ZOG
>>29012272>They also require a driver's license and insuranceYou do in europe too, albeit it's a lower license than a B license that's for regular cars.Usually it's the M license or similar that's for mopeds and such.
>>29012263meanwhile in scottsdale
>>29012336the golf cart mogs the europod
meanwhile in scottsdale >>29012263also you never leave your hick town in the city the speed cameras turn on at 36 mph
>>29012340tuktuk mots the golf taxis the Ami is playing a different game
>>29012352mogs*
>>29012315>here in scottsdale loads of people get around on golf cartsIn which case the Ami is already redundant, because a golf cart offers marginally more for significantly less. The interior of an Ami is much smaller than you'd think, and you don't have the option of 4 seats like you do with a golf cart. The interior is also your only luggage area, so there's no carrying passengers while also carrying luggage (unless you dump shit on their lap). The only advantage I think an Ami has over a golf cart is a fully enclosed cabin.>>29012326>how much more is that to purchase and maintain? No idea what they are in the US, but here in the UK there's very little difference in price, and if you're dirt poor, then gen 1 smart cars can be had for anywhere from £500 - £1000 here, though they're obviously petrol or diesel.>some of your points are spot on but i still see the ami as fitting a niche. It fits a niche, sure, but it's such a narrow niche that I don't think it helps in any significant way. Again, it exists for kids to get on the road without needing a license, it's not some utopian pod for the masses to aid in travelling a city. Not sure about the states, but it's illegal to drive any form of "Motorised Vehicle" on pedestrian paths here, which makes it pointless in the context of walkable cities, yet it also requires insurance and registration despite being extremely gimped on the road. I just don't see how they can charge a 5 figure sum for what is essentially a toy with very little practicality compared to something like a golf cart.
>>29012347I’ve lived here for 5 years, longest I’ve ever lived somewhere. Grew up in the military, I’ve lived so many places. I know the deal, most cities are very similar, you figure out the main roads yadda yadda. I have a golf cart myself, it’s illegal to drive on the road, my tractor isn’t (don’t even need to register it). If I want to go downtown to the courthouse it’s 20 minutes on the interstate at 80-95 in a 70 zone. That little shitbox can’t even hang with 90s kei trucks. It would take me over an hour to get downtown with this euro quadricycle shit.
looks like shit
I also agree it looks like shit
>>29012028Boomers pay that much for golf karts
>>29012205This isn't for cities it's for sprawling gated residential areas
>>29012449I live in such a place. I have a golf cart and most around do. It’s for farm work on large properties, not for driving around the neighborhood. You want to spend $15k to tool around your neighborhood at 10mph? Go for it, I’m just saying no one does that. People have gone out of their way banning and limiting kei trucks but this is fine for them?
>>29012398bruh lemme compare used car price to new car price : |
>>29012398i think you underestimate just how many people fit within this niche, it is far wider than you are suggesting. like i mentioned before, in Chicago the speed cameras turn on at like 36 mph. Just stay off the expressway. Loads and loads of people would simply be better off with an Ami, rather than their hyundai shit box, they might not be able to drive upstate to grandma’s once a year for Thanksgiving, but is fine at all other times.
>>29012421When I was living in Avondale in Chicago working in Lake View I would commute east and west on Belmont. I would get groceries at a few places less than a mile or two from the apartment. Apart from the once in a while trek to the Skokie walmart for cheaper toilet paper and cleaning supplies, it would literally do my entire life better than my Prius did.
>>29012464The Ami is limited to 28 mph. That “15 minute commute” becomes a 60 minute one as you have to drive on the slowest roads or inconvenience everyone around you. There are more guns than people in the US, my city is majority black. I don’t think driving 28mph tops when the normal streets around are 45 minimum is a good idea.
>>29012464keep in mind this is *all of USA, the data from google Ai, not ideal scenarios for the Ami. Like Portland or Seattle.
>>29012454Im not your "bruh" faggot
>>29012473you have never lived in a city before, no your out west suburban sprawl is not a city
>>29012483brown people should not be allowed on white people internet
>>29012485I have lived in dozens of cities. Currently I’m in a state capitol city. I’m sorry but this is a bad idea. I can’t imagine the PNW (only part of the country I haven’t lived) being some magical place where driving happens at 15mph.
>>29012493yes i am familiar with lots of american “cities”
>>29012499Ok, so would you drive something that *tops out* at 28mph in such a city? Regularly, not as some one time performative act?
>>29012149THIS is something I remember using, as a kid.Now that I think about it... you kids don't have this anymore, do you?And I don't see kids skating around on roller blades or skateboards, either...
>>29012511People don’t let kids go out in public anymore.I miss skateboarding miles away before anyone even had cell phones. I feel bad for younger generations.
>>29012454Yes, because they don't sell those EV Smart Cars anymore. Used approved ones from Mercedes Themselves come with warranty, and a 10,000 mile car is hardly used anyway. For the trade off of being able to actually carry some form of luggage and do regular road speeds, it seems perfectly fair. If you want an apples to apples comparison, then here's a used Ami I found. The Ami is a glorified golf cart, the ForTwo is an actual car with A/C and other creature comforts. The Ami would need to be around £2,000 to be anywhere near worth considering, and even then I'd rather a golf cart just because of the increased practicality.>>29012464I just don't see it at all. An Ami isn't a car, it's a motorised plastic tub, and the majority of the general public in that niche still aren't going to want that, regardless of the perceived convenience - especially at that price tag. Who realistically wants to spend a 5 figure sum to travel 15 to 20 miles in a vehicle that has no A/C, no radio, seats like a church pew, and also no real safety margins in the land of full-size trucks and SUVs? Maybe time will prove me wrong, but even here in the UK where they're far more useable do I have yet to see a single Ami in the wild.
>>29012510i never suggested its right for everyone everywhere i said it fits a specific niche and is a welcome sight on the american market
>>29012540I’m saying I don’t see the use case in the US.I drive a Miata with maybe 100hp, I had a Smart ForTwo for a while. There’s nowhere in the US where 25mph is acceptable, you’ll get shot.
>>29012488I agree. We need less zoom and nigspeak on the internet and real life.
>>29012520i imagine many made the same criticism of pic related to the no radio, everyone has a phone in 2026, most i see in the wild have a bluetooth speaker on the dash, great! not having the automaker put one in at substantially higher costs than a 10$ speaker no a/c can be a super bummer depending on where you live ngl but it didn’t stop the mini’s popularity i haven’t sat in one, but it does look firm
>>29012547no ID’s outside of /pol/ makes 4chan retarded
>>29012548If you dont put a CD RADIO in the carYou have failed and your car is fucking dogshit
>>29012012Can you tune an electric car?Cuz imagine the many ways this smol car will get abused by dumb muricans, it'll be cinema
>>29012554No IDs has always been fine. They removed every other check feature so retards could retard more and indians could be retarded more
>>29012545limited to 35 mph would be perfect for most urban settings
>>29012556put one of the tesla motors in a Buddy and slam it 8 ]
>>29012558It’s limited to 28. It’s a “quadricycle” to get around Europe car laws. There isn’t an American who would be suited with something that’s almost topped at 25 that isn’t useful on a farm. And certainly no American who will spend $15k for that. It’s idiotic. I’m all for them being allowed to be sold, but I’m not seeing it working out. Imagine the stress and fear of being on American roads and not being able to go 30mph. Nobody wants that, the hipster women and grandmas you’re imagining would buy this - they definitely don’t want that.People DO leave their neighborhood sometimes. This costs almost 4x what I paid for my car that’ll do 130.
>>29012548>i imagine many made the same criticism of pic relatedThe difference being that they're far more spacious and actually capable of carrying a family of 4, if need be. They're also capable of reaching 70mph, even at a time when traffic was significantly slower and less dense than the modern day.>everyone has a phone in 2026, most i see in the wild have a bluetooth speaker on the dash, great! not having the automaker put one in at substantially higher costs than a 10$ speakerFor something that costs over 10,000 sheckles, you'd expect a radio at a bare minimum. Most people get pissy if their car doesn't even have car play or android auto, so heaven forbid it not even have a radio of any description.>it didn’t stop the mini’s popularityAgain, different time. Besides begin absolutely massive at the time and likely unable to fit under the hood of an OG mini, A/C was seem as a luxury item, not just a simple optional extra. Hell, iirc even the *heater* was an optional extra when they were first released in '59!>i haven’t sat in one, but it does look firmFirm is certainly a good word to describe it. The suspension is also shockingly shit, and potholes are nearly a death sentence thanks to both that and the tiny wheels.
>>29012548The Mini IS a car though. It seats four people AND luggage and can go on highways. In fact that's what the appeal was when it was new, that such a small car could be so big inside. In my country I've seen some Amis running around, in fact a kid near me has one, and they're no faster than an escooter, and the interior looks cramped. I've only ever seen teens using it to go to school and for the price they sell for all you're getting for it is peace of mind your dumb teen son isn't ending up underneath a bus when he inevitably crashes his scooter. Not the anon you were talking to btw, just wanted to add my two cents.
>>29012453Exactly. And my kei truck does 70mph. I take it on the interstate weekly
>>29012675i like those too dang
>>29012555Reminder that the current body style Chevy Express van has been in production so long the CD radio went from optional upgrade, to standard equipment, to replaced by an AM/FM/Aux Jack radio.
>>29012436They're boomers. They have a bunch of hoarded wealth to spend. They aren't the target audience of this vehicle.
>>29012710The target audience is literally people about 60 who don’t want their meth addled 16 year old going fast.
>>29012558This nigga has never had to swing out of the left line because some one is turning or battled for position due to construction lane closers.Happy so see more options if it can be treated as a golf cart it really could enter a big market.
>>29012710Yes they are they want low speed electric vehicles to drive around thier retirement community
>>29012029City dwellers might be the target audience, but last year during my holidays in central Italy I saw a few of them in those tiny medieval towns with narrow and steep roads: I feel they make a lot of sense there because they're absolutely tiny, and being electric they have all the torque at standstill, which is great in those environments. Frankly if I had the means I'd transfer in one of those places and I'd daily a Topolino: beautiful places with great food and everything you need at walking distance, and driving that little shitbox around those roads must be hella fun.
>>29012021>assmarked
>>29012012I see two of those regularly, one is all stickered up and the other looks like OPs pic. They seem plenty quick for commute traffic and around the workplace. My trunk is longer than one. ;)
>>29012023I like that but it would need to spin all four wheels on demand.I'm sure somebody already has one that does.
>>29012352This shit started appearing in my hood in brooklyn and it needs to go away. Its dehumanizing and third world enough as is without the tuk tuks. F this shithole.
>>29013910if you’ve never been wasted in the back of a tuktuk you’re not living
>>29012336lmao it's bigger thana Fiat 500
Not really any better than the model that came before it.
>>29012548>it does look firmThere are no springs, just rubber cones, spring rate (for lack of a better term) is far from linear >>29012577>the suspension is also shockingly shit, and potholes are nearly a death sentence thanks to both that and the tiny wheels. The cones have to be replaced from time to time, many never do it and essentially drive around on the bumpstops.
>>29016798Are you talking about the Mini, or the Ami? Because we're talking about the Ami, which I'm pretty sure has tradition coilover type suspension, and somehow still manages to be abysmal.
>>29016813he’s referring to the seats seen pic related it does look firm but it’s also a city run around long trips aren’t even possible
>>29012012>>29012018Only pajeets drive these things where i live in lexington, kentucky
>>29017362how is that possible they’re not even on sale in USA yet?
>>29012223>I feel like I should better explain that when I say "too big to park and navigate in the streets and pedestrian traffic of the city", what I mean is quite literally *IN* the city, as in on sidewalks and the like.In some Euro countries this thing is allowed to use bike lanes, making it a no-brainer.
>>29012012americans cant fit in that kek
