I saw one way of removing ethanol was adding water to it and then siphoning off the gas from the water and alcohol layer. Anyone else autistic or have other ways to get rid of corn from your gas?
That's the only DIY way possible. They sell it here so it's unnecessary for me.
>>29013623Ethanol has anti knock properties. You want like 10% of your gas to have it. Why is this board so stupid?
>>29013676it's less explosive, it takes longer to burn and has less energy in it, that''s the "anti-knock" effect you're talking about. Knock happens when a fuel charge detonates before the piston is at top dead center; when that happens is determined by ignition timing, which is fully controlled by the ECU in modern cars. No matter how long a given fuel charge takes to fully detonate, your engine will adapt to it using the knock sensor.Ethanol is shitty fuel and absorbs water, which corrodes your fuel delivery system, but Big Corn doesn't care about that.
>>29013623Do you think having ethanol in your fuel will turn you gay or something?
>>29013676So does your mom but you fetal alcohol syndrome child.
>>29013676>You want like 10%No, YOU want like 10% bitch. We are not the same
>>29013623Siphoning is terribly inefficient.Ethanol boils at ~78c, which is far below the rest of the fuel components. For best results distill it at 85, this will free up a large amount of the bonded ethanol.
>>29013676I don't fucking need any corn in my gas idiot.
>>29013794Is it easy to distill? How do you distill it?
>>29013676Makes your gas mileage worse because it's less energy dense, and it makes your gas hygroscopic (attracts water) so it goes bad when you store it.
>>29013853Distilling is piss easy, you stick shit in a glass bottle, heat it to the appropriate temperture and hold it there. If you're not going to collecting the vapor (which in this case is ethanol) you can let it vent to atmo. If you want to collect it run a condensor or a long enough tube to allow it to naturally cool and condense in an adjoing container.
>>29013917But how do you keep it at 78c?
>>29014011You don't, you keep it at 85c
>>29013676>I have not and will never drive a classic carKill yourself
ITT: People that have never distilled ethyl alcohol, much less understand the meaning of azeotrope.
>>29013917Personally I'd use a copper barrell.>>29014011>What is a thermostatGrab an electric hotplate and thermometer. Don't worry about a little temperture drift, as long as you don't exceed the threshold to burn off the compounds you want you're fine.
>>29013794Are you trying to blow up OP's garage? I mean, OP might deserve it, but gasoline does release potentially explosive fumes even at room temperature.
>>29014272Potentially? Vapor pressure my man.>>29014263Copper only matters for personal consumption and scrubbing the distillation of sulfates, which realistically mean nothing to engines. There's a reason why turbo yeast tastes like dogshit but withstands high ABV in sugar washes.
>>29013676Based, these retards are retarded Wish there were more places that sold e85 these days
>>29013623ethanol has anti-knock properties. if you strip away the ethanol without adding an anti-knock agent, you run the risk of blowing up your engine with pre-ignition. if it's a cheap lawnmower engine or something it might not matter, but if it's a $10k car engine, it's probably a really bad idea.>>29013794ethanol forms an azeotrope with the light hydrocarbon fractions that constitute gasoline, which means you're (once again) fucking up the octane rating. even if we pretend that the azeotropes don't exist, you won't get good fractional separation with >>29013917 glass bottles (which is a terrible idea because soda lime glass will crack and create a massive fire.) you need borosilicate glassware and some sort of a fractional distillation column.
>>29014367>glass is bad, you need to use glassThis post was brought to you by chat-gpt.
>>29014469borosilicate glass is not the same as soda lime glass.>chat-gpti have a set of borosilicate 24/40 laboratory glassware setting in my closet.
>>29014472>borosilicate glass is not the same as soda lime glass.Never said it was, you're the one who injected the distinction in to the conversation and assumed. You made the classic chat-gpt mistake of assuming someone is wrong in their ambiguity in order to pretend you know shit.
Are we talking about distillation?Personally I wouldn't distill oil/gasoline in my garage, big explosion risk.
>>29014486go try to distill a flammable solvent in soda lime glass and let me know how it goes.
>>29014339Blocked
>>29014517when you see that extra shit at the top of a post, don't reply to it, especially to abuse it. My theory is they were all abused as children, so getting abuse here makes it feels loved, which prevents it being able to heal and post anon like the site was designed for.
>>29014469He’s completely right tho, not sure why you’re sperging out >>29014517Blocked
>>29014367 Mr petroleum engineer would the lower octane make it knock less anyway? How about the knock sensor? Does it matter for carbonator engines and does fuel injection change anything? I think the glass was an issue with them changing some glass baking trays that exploded
>>29014967higher octane rating means it's harder to ignite/detonate. an EFI engine will use knock sensors to adjust timing but there's only so much it can do if your fuel has a very low octane rating. carbureted engines won't be adjusting timing at all, so it will blindly knock.
>>29013623Removing ethanol from gasoline reduces the octanes, your 87E10 for example becomes something like 82-84 octane. Anti-ethanol fuel people should be permanently banned from driving any cars on public roads.
>>29015130Ethanolated fuel is objectively worse than non-ethanol. Not to mention that ethanol production from corn uses more fossil fuels than it generates in ethanol. It's a ponzi scheme using taxpayer dollars to support corn farmers. If you want to use ethanol go nuts. Hell put it on your breakfast cereal for all i I care. But if you wanna tell me I HAVE to be in favor of it, you can eat shit and die.
>>29015130So?
Race fuel is usually ethanol free but it costs a pretty penny. >>29013676It does have a nice octane but it corrodes most fuel systems and needs a beefier fuel pump. I love the e85 stuff and it can handle crazy boost levels, but I can see how it can be obnoxious on systems not made for it.
>>29015190>Not to mention that ethanol production from corn uses more fossil fuels than it generates in ethanol.False & outdated garbage information from you.
>>29015623Prove it faggot. >you can't>you won't
>>29015623>diesel in a semi to deliver corn seed to farmer >diesel in tractor to plant corn>diesel in sprayers to spray corn>diesel in combine to harvest corn>diesel in tractors to tow grain carts>diesel in semi to haul grain trailer to ethanol plant >fossil fuels in power plant to run ethanol plant>diesel in semi or train to haul ethanol to regional fuel terminal to be mixed with gasoline You can't seriously believe you can do all that work and come out ahead energy-wise. If that's how thermodynamics works you just make all the farm equipment and the ethanol plant run on ethanol and you get unlimited energy
