What batteries are you all running? My car and one of my trucks both have decided to eat shit and now I gotta shop around. Feel like batteries only last 3-4 years now which is pretty shitty.
I buy those new gook batteries they sell them under lots of different house names
>>29014537Buy a mid or high grade battery at Wal-Mart. They are made by Clarios (Johnson Controls sold their battery making business to them) or East Penn.
>>29014537I just buy from costco because they're cheap and have a good prorated warranty
>>29014537I buy the ever start value batteries from Walmart, they’re good and cheap
>>29014537I got one of those new lithium car batteries and it's been working well but I still don't trust it because they said agm is more reliable
>>29014680I’ve been looking at them but I’ve heard that as well. Agm just seems to be a good mix of cost and reliability.
>>29014682yeah my agm's (odyssey and interstate) have lasted 6-7 yrs and thats good enough for me.lightweight lithium are great but holy shit are they expensive, plus i'm not sure how I feel about putting them in the 2nd most expensive thing I own that I store inside the 1st most expensive thing that I own
>>29014537My shitbox honda runs the econocraft lable from vatozone
>>29014583This is what I do. They’re like $50-$75 cheaper, and the warranty is better since it’s 3yrs instead of 2yr + 1yr prorated. The only downsides to Walmart batteries is their selection is iffy unless you go to a store with an auto center, and the warranty process and returning cores has to be done while customer service is still open.
>>29014583So the maxx, or platinum?
>>29014537For me it's Interstate, because I enjoy supporting Christian companies, plus the 3 year warranty and availability through Costco is nice as well.
>>29014537Unfortunately 99% of batteries use recycled lead.If you want a 10+ year battery, you have to buy something like a US made Odyssey battery. They are usually $500+.Lithium batteries also last a long time 10yrs+ but they often times cost $1,500+I just replace batteries every 3-4yrs now as a precaution.A weak modern battery can kill your alternator. So depending on the car, that could be expensive or a pain in the ass
>>29014537I've had really good luck with Motorcraft batteries
>>29014537My main starting battery is from Costco. The second starting battery is some big store house brand. Then I got a LiTime LiFep04 as an aux battery. >Feel like batteries only last 3-4 years now which is pretty shitty. They last longer than that for me and it gets to -40c and below and 40c+ here. You need to take better care of your electrical system if they're dying that fast.
>>29014583This, I've got a duralast gold, but it would be the same as an ever start Maxx from Walmart or the Honda dealer's oem batt.
Anybody replace their car battery with a motorcycle one?>2.6lbsThat would be -42lbs out of my trunk
I just pull 'em outta the fuckin ocean. They keep showing up like Poseidon blesses me or some shit.
>>29015097It might crank the engine on warm days. Lithium drops off power fairly quick in the cold. 5Ah is a very small reserve though, leave your headlights on without the car running for 15min and the battery will be dead.
OPTIMA BatteriesOnly the best for my car
>>29015125>Lithium drops off power fairly quick in the cold. It's the opposite actually.Lithium car bats have less crank losses when cold compared to lead acid.Lead bats also have less cranking power to begin with as well
>>29015154It's dangerous to pull even 0.1x the max amp rating of a lithium battery at freezing and it gets much worse below freezing.EVs all have battery heaters for a fucking reason.
>>29015097lithium is the one that explodes when you drop make it upset.
I just buy interstate batteries off my neighbor for $50 a piece. Dunno how he gets them that cheap and don't want to ask. Optimas, group 65s, group 31s. Doesn't matter, $50 each.
>>29014537>scamatteries amirite??? just buy a battery charger. costs less than a new battery and extends life of even the shittiest walmart battery for decades
>>29014537I have to use 4 batteries.
>>29015157Gas Car batteries are a different chemistry than EVs anon.Although I haven't used Lithium bats below Zero
>>29015298life would improve dramatically if people would just admit they don't know what theyre talking about.>diff chemistREEdoesn't matter.
Additional question from me OP. Say I wanted to move my batteries from the engine bay to a side box, what size should I go with for big cranking power and longevity? Just the two biggest like 4D/8D semi truck sized?
>Go to local battery place>Inquire about cheap house-brand or refurbed Group 31 commercial batteries>Buy cheap ass battery, shoe horn into vehicleI think the other sizes are more expensive because of economy of scale.
>>29015533If you're doing that my recommendation here>>29015543 is even more appropriate. You can find Group 31's everywhere. If you want the biggest gnarliest but maybe hard to get battery, go for military 6TL's. They're massive because they're deep cycle batteries that are big enough to provide starting power.
>>29015545Good info I’ll look into what I can get my hands on.
>>29014537>What batteries are you all running? The cheapest ones bcause I never noticed any difference between cheap and expensive battery unless it's something super expensive like yellowtop optima.Ofc there's a difference, plates are thicker on expensive bats but in my experience that does not translate to better longevity. So last battery I got was polish battery with american flag on it :-)>>29015097You can get affordable li-ion batteries from chi-nah now.I run small 45Ah Pb battery in my Hilux and it starts old diesel just fine, stock is like double the size.
From my experiences, Interstate batteries last twice as long as most auto parts store batteries do. Worth it for like 1.5x the cost IMO.
>>29015206While everyone should own one or more battery chargers, they do not extend battery life for decades...
anyone know a cheaper group35ish sized battery
>>29014583Theyre the same battery with different warranties. The only difference is literally the sticker on the side of it.
>>29014537Batteries DO only last a couple of years - if you're paying $150 for a "new" battery, it's not new - it's basically a reman. Deka has a plant the size of a town, just for acid and lead recycling. They're garbage. They're literally half as good as the "cosmetic defect" batteries I used to get at Deka, for $30. You want a good battery, get one right from the car dealership - they use new batteries, because they don't want the batteries to take a shit until after the warranty expires.
>>29015008Nta, but I had a mobile dealership mechanic come to my house to do a recall (software update for a towing module) and I asked if he could update me to an AGM motorcraft, because I already had it done once he refused, but said motorcraft batteries were junk. I have a feeling it's because he replaced them regularly and because of selection bias. I have probably a few years left in my motorcraft but I'll get a nice high quality AGM for my hybrid.
>>29014923Interesting
>>29015206>decadesWrenchlet
>>29014537One of them silver VARTAs. Made by Clarios and was a nice bump in capacity over the previous one I had which fucking died.
>>29014537Whatever Walmart has
>>29018424>not decadessuper wrechlet batteries don't magically stop working if you maintain them properly.
>>29015002>Unfortunately 99% of batteries use recycled lead.literally what is wrong with this. it's fucking lead
>>29018603It becomes unpure as it's recycled and those impurities can lead to chemical reactions on the inside which can fuck up the plates.
>>29018000I've found generally you get what the label tells you you're going to get.If it says 2 years, start checking it before the cold season hits after the 2 year mark. Says 3, you'll reliably get 3. etc.Can 2 years last 3? 3 last 5? all depends on the environment temps, how "proper" the car is driven/cared for, and the age of the components and wires.
>>29014537delkor m27. the extra terminals are nice for adding accessories. it's a marine battery though, so probably deep cycle and not ideal as a starting battery but the extra terminals are nice for wiring in extra electrical stuff.
>>29018717All the batteries are the same, you’re just paying extra for a longer warranty, except the AGM batteries those are different
>>29014537Walmart Ever Start batteries, the warranty is good for 3-4 years depending on which model you select and they replace it with a brand new one within that warranty period when the battery dies.Costco used to do that with their Interstate batteries, now they just do a prorate for the replacement battery within the warranty period.
>>29014537When I was young and had money I ran xs batteries. Loved them. Not cheap though
euro here, my car needs a new battery soon, the only brands that are easily available here are exide, bosch and start. any of them good?
>>29018842Can't get a VARTA?
>>29019025i could but probably from an online store, i haven't seen them on shelves anywherenot sure if that's a good idea, can't check the manufacture date
