I've never bought a car before but i checked cars.com for my area.

This is what prices are like. Is this normal? I would never pay this much money for this old piece of shit.

You can check craigslist but today everything cheaper is twice the mileage. I spotted a manual honda fit at $5.5k last week but looks like it got sold.
>>
>>29015420
That's not so bad considering the mileage.

How the fuck do poor people get cars if this utter shitbox is 8 thousand dollars?

they buy private party. it's $8k at a dealership but would probably sell for $5k private party. also KBB's value is hilariously wrong for this car, they think it's a $2-3k car even at a dealership.
>>
>>29015420
you can easily get 200k miles out of these.
>>
>>29015468
What websites should i use den? It should be 2k cuz thats what i would be willing to pay
>>
>>29015474
facebook marketplace and auto trader? be prepared to dodge scams and deal with complete retards -- but you will save a considerable amount of money over buying from a dealership.

imo there's no reason to buy a used car from a dealership when the warranties are like 30 days and 1k miles, and they'll fight you tooth and nail if you dare to use it.
>>
>>29015465
>he's poor in current year
Might aswell unalive yourself. It's a rich man's world. You people fight over scraps.

I have a 300k net worth but i'm looking for a car for my younger brother you incel faggot
>>
I'm in some sort of a predicament here. it could even probably be a thread of its own.
You see this piece of shit used market. that's a big problem right there. New cars are not that attractive, they're all hybrid or electric, and they dont make them like they used to. Also, newer cars will soon have killwitches and cameras all over the place. I'm gonna have to replace my cars at some stage eventually and buy something else.
Problem is, I don't want a downgrade. Newer cars feel like a downgrade. It's probably the last chance for all of us living in this timeline to buy a car that will last us for decades. So it has to be a good car. And with that piece of shit used car markets, it's a pain in the butt. I'm not that much into oldies, simply because I like a bit of comfort (AC, power-windows, power-steering, a good audio system, etc... you get the point). It also has to be not a piece of shit car that needs wrenching every weekend. What's a good candidate for a car like that /o/tists?
>>
>>29015477
If you're that rich, then be a good brother and buy your lil bro a car that doesn't kill him.
>>
>>29015481
He's a lazy semi-neet so i dont want to enable him

Just buy something that isn't full software-cucked, like a 2018 model
>>
>>29015492
>2018 model
yea I was leaning towards that 2016-2018 range. thx
>>
>>29015492
That's pretty much when cars peaked. Before they started spying on your every eye movement.
>>
>>29015497
Its not even about the "spy" shit as if george soros is looking at random incels like you drive to work.

The real reason is the software reliance and the fact that the manufacturer can release a faulty patch that manages your ECU and bricks your engine because a jeet contracter vibe coded it with AI.

they finance $8k cars with 0% down at 12% apr for 84 months.
>>
used cars are overpriced, it's usually better to get a new car and take care of it

Not that bad over the course of 7 years if your poor and need a car to get your life together.

>they finance $8k cars with 0% down at 12% apr for 84 months.
Jesus that's a shitty loan. Do Americans really?
>>
>>29015538
it's still like $6k more than the car is worth. if you have any financial education whatsoever you'd know you're getting scammed. all you have to do is ask for a lower interest rate enough times and they'll give it to you.
>>
Do you m/o/rons not know how to negotiate? This is a used car lot and they expect you to haggle.
The mileage is low for its age (3k/yr) and condition looks surprisingly good for a GM vehicle so this was probably some elderly White persons last car.
But you'll have to talk to someone and attempt what passes for some terminally online zoomers attempt at "negotiation" which means you'll probably get fucked.
Better just stick to the bus pass and your bike.

Used to be that way but not now. Used cars aren't littering the landscape like it's 2005 so they know if you don't buy today, then somebody else will tomorrow or the day after, but it WILL sell.

Yep, that's what I did with my current beater. Under $2k listed, I was familiar with the platform, and realized it's just an ugly trade-in because the prior owners wanted a truck and hated living with a minivan.

Now I have a reliable beater car for $2200, at a price that was considered pretty stellar prior to 2020, and considered mythically impossible post-2020. Platform knowledge afforded me an over 90% discount on the used car market.

>>29015420
It's pretty shit. I'm in the market for a used car but something that's new to me and better than my current car.

I drive a 2009 Crown Victoria with nearly 200k miles and a terminal oil leak (mechanic said leak is unable to be repaired without remachining engine heads, which costs $2500-$3000 minimum). He said the leak will eventually lead to coolant mixing with the oil and killing the engine. My car also has numerous other cosmetic issues and little things wrong with it, so it's really not worth anything (if I get $2000 when I try to sell it I'll be really happy).

My budget for a used car is around $10k, ideally a lot less than that, but I'm willing to go up to 10 grand. And all I can find is shit. Fwiw, I can find decent Panther platform vehicles with low miles for much cheaper than that, but my previous car was a lincoln town car, and I just want something different now that I'm in my 30s.

What's available to me just seems so slim. It's either fwd shitboxes like the OP, which will be even more boring to drive than my crown vic, or there are heavily depreciated luxury cars that are 20-30 years old with well over 100k miles, often closer to 200k.

Like, no, I'm not going to buy your Lexus LS400 with 185k miles for $8k, sorry just not gonna do it. And it's not that I don't like the car, I just don't think it's worth that much, and I don't want something with that many miles. I'd pay 5 or 6 grand for one around 100k miles and I think that would be fair, but that doesn't exist anymore
>>
>>29015420

Here is a 2014 Impala in your area with a clean title and 79,000 miles for $1,000 more.

>>
>>29015420
>Is this normal?

I looked at carsforsale and prices in your area are definitely higher than they are where I live in NC. Selection is also more limited. I could get a good Town Car for that kind of money around here.
>>
>>29016552
is the crown victoria frame non rusty? transmission in good shape? drop a new engine in that bitch
>>
>>29016645
>is the crown victoria frame non rusty? transmission in good shape? drop a new engine in that bitch

Frame minimally rusty if at all, transmission seems ok, I mean I don't notice any grinding noises. I've thought about going the engine replacement route, but at the end of the day I'm not that poor, and I can afford a different car.

More to the point, I WANT something different. I'm 35. I got a Lincoln Town Car in 2008 when I was 17. I drove that until 2018 when I got my 2009 Crown Vic. Now it's 2026, I'm practically middle-aged. I just want something different than the panther platform for a little while, ideally something that more fun to drive and more visually appealing. I'm sure I'll get another Town Car or Grand Marquis or Crown Vic again at some point in my life, just want something different for now

Wonder how she's doing these days.
>>
>>29017394
literally just buy a Charger or Challenger, they're big and practical like a panther but actually turn and don't make you look like a bootlicker or schizo, even if you get an ex-cop car.
>>
>>29017394
I'd put your old panther in storage then once it dies. You'll find later in life she'll be cheaper to put a new engine in than it would be to find a non-fucked and non-rusted panther.

It's worth $3k, TOPS.
