Then ask the Russians if they're satisfied with Chinese trucks.

For three years, it's been impossible to buy new trucks from European manufacturers on the Russian market. They've been replaced by Chinese companies, but it turns out that Russian-Chinese cooperation isn't going well at all. Russians complain not only about the quality of Chinese vehicles but also about the Chinese treating Russia like a colonial country. A forum titled "Chinese Trucks in Russia: Initial Operational Experience and Prospects" was held in Novosibirsk. It brought together representatives of Russian carriers, Chinese companies, and economists. It quickly became clear that cooperation isn't working out as the Russians expected.

There are trucks that do high mileage and don't need repairs, but about half of Chinese trucks require major repairs to key components, such as the engine or transmission, at mileage levels not exceeding 500,000 km, which in real-world truck terms means 3-4 years of operation.

Many complaints also concerned the unreliability of the ELECTRICAL system (!) and the fact that even basic maintenance tasks, such as battery replacement, are extremely complex and require diagnostic equipment.

Another problem is the lack of local warehouses and service centers. As a result, dealers take a long time to repair vehicles because the necessary components must be imported from China. And for transport companies, every truck that is out of service means real losses.

Russians at the forum also emphasized that the Chinese do not treat Russia as a serious partner or a serious market in which they want to make long-term investments, for example by building production plants or opening official representative offices.

On the contrary, they said, the behavior of Chinese companies is more akin to treating Russia as a colonial state whose market must be exploited as quickly and as effectively as possible.

Russians have also had unpleasant experiences with Chinese passenger cars.

Studies conducted in 26 Russian regions, covering 17 Chinese brands, revealed their vehicles' susceptibility to corrosion in Russian climatic conditions. According to analysts, the bodies of Chinese cars begin to rust after just 2 to 5 years of use. In extreme cases, especially in Siberia, the first signs of corrosion appear as early as 6 months after purchasing a new car. The problems don't end with corrosion. Owners of Chinese cars report problems with heating systems that can't cope with Russian frosts, frozen door handles, and unreliable touchscreens.

The experiences of Russian taxi companies, which have massively switched to Chinese vehicles, are particularly striking. According to industry data, these vehicles currently constitute 70-80% of taxi fleets in Russia. However, their operational lifespan is only about 150,000 km. km, while vehicles from Western brands, including Korean and Japanese, operate efficiently for 250,000 to 300,000 km. One of the most pressing issues facing the Russian automotive market is the availability of spare parts for Chinese vehicles. The Russian Association of Motor Insurers reports that delivery times for components from China have nearly doubled, now standing at around 45 days. For less popular models or more complex repairs, owners may have to wait up to six months (!)
