>picrel Skoda Fabia 1.2 TDI>Will do 57.4 MPG US in the City>78.4 MPG US Highway>Way more reliable than any Japanese gas engine>Can still do over 100 MPH>Rated to tow 1 tonne
diesel fuel is taxed much more heavily in America and is thus more expensive than gasoline diesel engines are inherently less smooththese sorts of engine made 100 hp max and were very slowI wonder how rough it would be but a diesel v6 seems like fun, and certainly more useful for me because I do a lot of driving on winding mountain roads and dirt roads where low end torque matters most.
Because Americans aren't poor and generally want the better and more comfortable engines.
No one wants to buy DEF every other week.
>>29018556>diesel fuel is taxed much more heavily in America and is thus more expensive than gasolineUnlikely if it's doing around double the mileage of the equivalent gas car>I wonder how rough it would beSurprisingly not bad, there are many examples of these engines exceeding 200000 miles pretty easily>Because Americans aren't poor and generally want the better and more comfortable engines. And that's why 99% drive something like this? A 2.Slow 4-cylinder crossover Autotragic? >No one wants to buy DEF every other week. These don't have SCR
>>29018561>And that's why 99% drive something like this? A 2.Slow 4-cylinder crossover Autotragic?Correct, it's compact, comfortable, quiet, gets 35mpg using a fuel that's at least $1 cheaper per gallon, it doesn't smell, and also doesn't have a more expensive diesel engine for zero benefit.
>>29018552The SMELL of diesel alone is enough to persuade most people away from a diesel. The cold start issues also scares a lot of people. Do you really think a 1.2l diesel is going to jive with the 400hp traffic in North America?
>>29018567That's right yes. Europe is heavily taxed and the people are poor. If some autistic here wants to own a little diesel car then he's not a part of the majority like it maybe is in Europe. So everything becomes a burden. Trying to find mechanics, parts, etc. People here like suvs now. And gas powered ones. If you're an ecofag, then you buy an electric car. Euros buy diesels because they are already established as common there and people do it to save money. Historically the cost savings made sense even if diesel costs a bit more and the maintenance cost was a bit more. But that's going away now when a fuel pump can cost more than the cars worth and they have stupid emissions shit on them. And before that diesel cars smelled like shit so why would the greatest country in the world (America) buy a bunch of smelly shit boxes?
>>29018552that was sold around 14 years agoback then there was still a sentiment against tiny displacement turbo motors, 1.9PD was king and anything smaller was assumed unreliable
>>29018567>compact,No it's not, it's around the same width as a W221 S-Class>quietThis is quiet then? https://youtu.be/IjtL0UFarzI?si=O0aCcGdfh238qQqk&t=118 It literally sounds like a Diesel at low speed>gets 35mpg using a fuel that's at least $1 cheaper per gallonYou clearly don't know how Mathematics works, do you?If gas is $3.50 a gallon, it would cost $50 to do 500 highway miles in the RAV4.If Diesel is $4.50 a gallon, it would cost $28.70 to do 500 highway miles SkodaOver 150,000 miles, you would spend $15000 dollars on gas if you did mostly highway miles, and you would spend $8609.69 on Diesel if you did mostly highway miles, that's over $6000 dollars saved. The difference would be even greater if you did mainly city driving>and also doesn't have a more expensive diesel engine for zero benefit.OPs car cost less than half the RAV4 new
>>29018552>vagshit>reliable>ever
>>29018903You sound like a fag.You want to believe that euros are somehow better and Americans are stupid for not buying your diesel cars that get a million mpg. They aren't sold here due to emissions regulations
modern VAG TDI engines last around 200k kilometers before>dual mass flywheel fails (1000€)>common rail injectors start failing (500€ x 4 = 2000€)>high pressure fuel pump fails (1000€)>particulate filter must be replaced (1000€)>turbo fails (probably 1000€)>EGR fails (probably 1000€)those are only part costs, labor not included. plus VAG pieces of shit use odd-size torque to yield fasteners EVERYWHERE so you must go the the stealership to buy them for exorbitant prices every time you replace something.
>>29018556>diesel fuel is taxed much more heavily in America and is thus more expensive than gasolineHalf of those retarded US trucks are diesel guzzlers
>>29018552>1.2 TDI>>Way more reliable than any Japanese gas engineLol no, certainly not, and i say this as someone who considers the fabia2 as one of the best cheap econoboxes on the marketDon't misunderstand the 1.2tdi isn't particularly bad, rather average, (mostly suffering form wonky ancillaries) but that's nowhere near the good diesel engines or the japanese gas ones
>>29018903A diesel Tiguan gets 46 on the highway. The gas one does 32. That 500 mile trip is $52 vs $54.50. If I drive the car for 150k miles then that's only $750 in savings. I wouldn't even break even on the upcharge to get the diesel and that doesn't even factor in the extra secondary expenses needed to keep a diesel on in the road.
>>29018556>diesel fuel is taxed much more heavily in America and is thus more expensive than gasolineReally this one. Diesel in the US has a slightly different history compared to Europe which is why it's so regulated.Diesel in the US during the 1970s and prior was basically the equivalent of light bunker oil. It was so cheap that national medium and heavy truck fleets ran on it because oil companies practically had to give it away nearly for free when accounting for its processing and transport.Because it was never really processed as a cleaner fuel, it resulted in getting some of the worst emissions impact in the US. Trees near highways literally withered and died from the sulfur emissions. Combined with shitty fuel quality and the introduction of diesel cars that were incredibly slow (and didn't get better mileage), and had stinky exhaust, Americans didn't buy them. Eventually the climate scare (ozone hole) got the US to heavily regulate the composition of diesel fuels, and then that where diesel became really expensive relative to gas.Even energy-wise, gas works better than diesel for passenger car use, given consumer preferences. Americans at the time were also picky on powertrain so a big, stupid gas chugger was still better than a comparable diesel option. Now they buy tiny turbo engines.>>29018934>Half of those retarded US trucks are diesel guzzlersMost pickup trucks from 1/2, 3/4, and 1-ton are oftentimes gas. Fleets don't have to maintain emissions equipment, which has downtime. There's a subset of truck owners who pay a premium to burn diesel and you'll notice that coal rolling is sort of limited to older trucks because the EPA cracked down on any shop that was even suspected of selling emissions defeat devices. If the driver gets caught with it, they will oftentimes tap their financial record to find the exact shop who sold it to them, even if the shop did a liability release for "off-road use only" because the driver used it on public roads.
>>29018995>A diesel Tiguan gets 46 on the highwayThat's not correct, a Diesel Tiguan is rated for 67.3 MPG UK, which converts to 56 MPG US, not 46
>>29019023Aren't diesels becoming less common in Europe? They used to be good (I owned a lot of vw diesels and those were the only good ones sold in America in recent times). But now they have too much shit and they aren't so nice for short drives. They never were really, but they're worse now
>>29018560My BMW diesel needed a refill every 8 - 12000km - that's not a nuisance at all.And older ones didn't have SCR at all.
>>29018926EGR valve on VW diesels fails every 50000km.Modern diesels are shit, the old ones were unbreakable.
>>29019044Sales of diesels are tanking, development and research has almost stopped. The price advantage of diesel is gone because of CO2 pricing and refinery output, initial cost has always been higher and higher mileage is also not that big anymore as emissions standards reduced the advantage of diesels over gasoline.
>>29019023UK tests are different than American tests. If you're using UK mpgs for diesel you need you need to use UK mogs for gas too. Do the math again and its the same every time. The savings are miniscule and it never makes sense
>>29018714this, diesels are smelly
>>29019005>Now they buyPlease don't misinterpret this as an attack upon you.THEY are not the same people. There is no COLLECTIVE MEMORY.Lessons and Truths not passed down to the next generation wind up getting lost. This is paradigm that is exploited by Industries, Families and Dynasties who make it a priority to remember..Efficiency doesn't really matter because the Jew will just reduce production, in order to maintain the same Profits.
