Helping a friend move across 4 states, 15± hours of driving. Never taken on such a task before, any tips for hours and hours of driving? Staying awake at the wheel? (Caffeine does absolutely nothing for me.) How to keep my ass from getting sore sitting for so long? Peeing in bottles?I will be flying to them, then we will take turns both driving the same vehicle back to my city. Already talked them into splitting it into 2 days and getting a hotel somewhere in the middle.
>2 days8 hours a day is easy peasy lol. Just don't start too late in the day, because it's not really about the length of time you're driving, it's the time you start and when you usually go to bed. You'll naturally need to get gas and use the bathroom, so you'll get your stretches in. There is no need to pee in bottles. I've driven through some really remote places, and I've never needed to do that. In general with regards to peeing though, just listen to your body and don't hold it in too long. I assume you have to drive back 15 hours too.I'd recommend 10 hours first day, hotel, then 5 hours, help him move, then 5 hours back to your hotel, then 10 hours back home. So 3 days instead of 4.
>>290186117.5 hours a day is a nothingburger. The federal government doesn't require truckers to even take a break until 8. (max for the day is 11 hours total, though)I drive 7 hours every day in a 9.5h workday (sometimes up to 14h) and some things to note:Music may make the drive feel longer. I can zone out in my thoughts when driving in silence and a 3.5h leg can go by in the blink of an eye. But if I have music going then the drive always feels... lengthy. If you drift out of lane then it's time to stop. You're fatigued. *You* may not feel tired (sleepy), however the monkey brain that's been doing the driving for you is out of mental resources and he needs rest.
>>29018611>Caffeine does absolutely nothing for me.snacks. when I'm on long drives I always keep something like beef jerkey in the car, since as long as I'm eating something, I'm awake. caffiene doesn't do much for me either.
>>29018811How long do you generally break for when you lane drift? Thanks for that tip.>>29018854Someone else suggested gum, but a good excuse to eat jerky too!
